GTA: San Andreas GXT Editor
---------------------------
This editor allows you to modify GTA: SA localization files
so you can put your own text in the game.

HISTORY

16.06.2005 - Version 1.2 released. Multilingual support added, read-only auto clearance, faster UI update.
18.11.2004 - Version 1.1 is out. This one optionally saves key names in ini-files.

28.10.2004 - Private GXT file viewer released.

NOTES ON USAGE
--------------
1) Entry names are stored as CRC codes in San Andreas so it's not possible to directly retrieve
the original entry name. You can use Search by name to find the required entry.
If you have a list of possible GXT names, you can use String List Match command which tries
to match each string in the list to all the entries in the file.

2) When you edit entry name, the newly assigned name will be lost when you next open
the file, unless Remember Names in INI option is checked. If it is, the assigned names
are stored in the ini file with the same name as the gxt. Next time the GXT is opened
assigned names will be read from the ini. Note that remembering of names happen only
if this option is checked. If you edited the entry name and then checked the menu,
the name will not be saved.
You can download a sample american.ini with some of the entry names here:
English - http://suchy63.rhlmod.ru/files/gtasa/sagxtamerican.zip
Put it in the same folder as the american.gxt file.

3) Version 1.3 can use custom character maps to decode international symbols gxt files.
You can customize the Character Map by selecting the appropriate option in the menu.
Then swap the characters by double-clicking (characters are swapped,
not replaced because of the reverse lookup). By default, the editor will try to load
font1.cmp which I created to mimic the default fonts.txd of GTA:SA. I also included
ansi.cmp which is a standard Windows character map. Standard map will be used if
font1.cmp is not found in editor's directory.

4) Character map symbols and international settings heavily depend on the language
choice for non-Unicode programs. In Windows NT based operating systems you can
change the language in Control Panel/Regional and Language options/Advanced tab.
For instance, to use Russian translation, the language in OS should be set to Russian.
But beware that the choice of language also affects Character map. So setting Russian
language in OS will result in incorrect characters being displayed in the program for
the Spanish text (the game will still be fine because it draws its own fonts).

5) Translation files are not included in this archive. You can download the translations
at the following addreses:
English - http://suchy63.rhlmod.ru/files/gtasa/sagxtedit_enu.zip
French - http://suchy63.rhlmod.ru/files/gtasa/sagxtedit_fra.zip
Russian - http://suchy63.rhlmod.ru/files/gtasa/sagxtedit_rus.zip

You don't need to download the English translation, because it is the default translation
used by the Editor.

who passed away recently. Rest in peace, ODIE, you will be remembered forever.
