I've added some PC release tech info to the topic, hoping people don't commit to a machine that's not up to task, it's a big question mark still

  3. Rockstar have just released 15 new high-res 4K screenshots of the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V. The game is thankfully still on track for release on the 14th April, and an official trailer is due out next week. Click the thumbnails below to see the screenshots in their full 4K glory. 4. The BBC are producing a drama based on our beloved videogame series, Grand Theft Auto. The drama is going to be part of the BBC's Make It Digital initiative (press release and news article) in which it is pushing the UK to get more involved in the digital age, in particular helping young children to get involved with various aspects of computing, but also producing documentaries and other media. There's not really any concrete details on the drama at the moment, but former Gamespot UK editor-in-chief Guy Cocker revealed on Twitter that he is involved with the project, and has said that it's a 90-minute drama focussing on the people who made the game, i.e. the Houser brothers. So "based on Grand Theft Auto" is a slightly hyperbolic line from the BBC, as it sounds more of a drama on the making of GTA, not about the game itself. Still, it will be interesting to see how this turns out. No word from the BBC on when it will air, other than the fact it will be on BBC Two, we'll let you know when we find out more details on that. The BBC are famously neutral and overly politically-correct, perhaps to a fault sometimes, however it must be said that in general they actually have a fairly positive outlook on videogames. In 2013 prior to the release of Grand Theft Auto V, a report titled Grand Theft Auto: One of Britain's finest cultural exports? was published, which contained various points of view, seems to acknowledge the impact it's had on the world, and the UK's economy and culture.
  5. Cities: Skylines is a city simulation game that was released a few days ago, and for those who don't know, is basically "everything Sim City should have been, and more". Despite its very recent introduction to the world, someone has already recreated the whole of GTAV's Los Santos in it. Steam user grockefeller, who has kindly released his save game file for the city on the Steam Workshop, says: If you own the game (which is only $ 30 / £23), you can have Los Santos in it with a simple click of a button on the Steam Workshop page. Below are a few more screenshots of the city, you should recognise how incredible the work put into this is almost immediately. Also below is a video from YouTube user Smoka Cola showing the city in action. [via Kotaku]
  6. The latest free update for GTA Online dropped earlier today, and it's the one you've been waiting a full 2 years for. Heists. We probably didn't need a news article to tell you this information, but here's Rockstar's quick recap on them: As you might expect the servers are getting pretty hammered and have been throughout the day, so things may be slow or not even play at all. All you can do is be patient. If you've managed to play a heist let us know in the comments how it went!
  7. Various gaming outlets recently got to play a heist in GTA Online, and their hands-on impressions have been released today in both text and video form from IGN, GamesRadar and GameReactor. In addition to their article IGN also put together a 23 minute video on how to plan a heist. According to IGN the heists are "spectacular". They consist of several smaller set-up missions before a final big event. To start a heist in the first place you'll need to be at least rank 12, as well as own a high end apartment, then you'll simply need to wait for a call from Lester. There is also a setup cost, apparently around $ 60,000, this may vary in different missions/heists. IGN go into detail about all this in their article, we won't copy and paste all of that here in case you don't want any minor spoilers, feel free to read it at your own leisure, or just watch their video we linked to above. We will quote their conclusion though, as it certainly sings very high praise for heists, making it sound as if the delays and the waiting will all be worth it. GamesRadar reckon that each of the heists (there are 5 in this first update) will take around 2 or 3 hours to complete, depending on your approach and skill of course. The guys at their GTAVOclock team put their thoughts into a very thorough 1 hour long report, which you can listen to in their YouTube video, or below. And finally a quote from GameReactor reminding us of the importance of good communication in your team: Rockstar provided sites with loads of new screenshots of heists in action, check them out in our gallery below.
  8. Just to remind you all that heists will finally be arriving in GTA Online next week on the 10th March. In addition to heists there will be some new adversary game modes making an appearance, read the summaries below for more info on those. From the Newswire, Rockstar summarise: Daily Objectives and new freemode activities will be other way in which you can boost your GTA$ earnings : The PC release still seems to be on track for its 14th April release. Only time will tell if it gets delayed again. Assuming it doesn't, you can be assured that heists and all this other new content will be available from day one.
  9. After annoying everyone by delaying the PC version of GTAV once again, Rockstar are cheering us up by showing off some gorgeous new screenshots of the game to keep your appetite whet. Check these beautiful 4K shots out: You can see all the previously released 4K resolution shots in our GTAV PC Screenshots gallery.
  10. Do we really need to say anything more? It's getting beyond a joke now but here we are, Rockstar have once again given us some dates for the release of GTA V on the PC, as well as heists for GTA Online. Some fans have been quick to point out that Rockstar haven't actually specified which year this time, which did make us giggle. Rockstar do offer their "apologies" for the, what is this? The 4th or 5th delay now? An extra $ 200,000 in-game cash will be given to those who have pre-ordered... If social media commentary is to be believed then this counts for nothing. A rather substantial amount of people are really not happy about the whole debacle, with many canceling or have already canceled their pre-order out of sheer frustration, some even admit they will turn to other means of acquiring the game. Constant delays are never good news for a game, even for one as high profile as GTA V that benefits from people buying it regardless just because "it's GTA". The loss of trust from loyal gamers and early pre-order purchasers could hurt in the long run. It's probably technically impossible to know just how many fans have actually canceled their order, though, and also how many were going to order but have since changed their mind. There is somewhat of a silver lining to this news though, at least for the console gamers, as Heists for GTA Online are apparently on track for release on the 10th March, which is just a couple of weeks away now. Rockstar promise more updates about this and other unnamed "new features" over the next couple of weeks. Hopefully they don't delay the news updates too. Here's some new screenshots showing action from heists:

  12. Rockstar have taken the decision to delay the PC release of GTA V once again (oh well, it happens to every GTA). This time the date has slipped another two months to the 24th March, reasoning that more time is needed for final testing and polish. Some of the more cynical readers may be aware that this is when Rockstar's fiscal year ends, which pushes GTAV's sales into the next fiscal year... Though one wonders why it wouldn't have been delayed until March in the first place. Regardless of the real reasoning (it's kind of irrelevant at this point), fans will be expecting nothing short of a flawless port now. Judging by the system specs revealed today that might actually be a reasonable expectation. Some recent major titles have had very high spec requirements meaning only the latest powerful computers had a chance of running the game smoothly, but Rockstar seem to be making a decent effort to make sure as many people can play GTA V as possible. If you have a PC or laptop bought or built within the last year or two you'll most likely be fine, anything older will probably struggle. Specs have been included at the end of this post, but if you're not sure you'll be able to play it, feel free to ask in our forums for suggestions or recommendations. Details Will run at 1080p and 60fps with up to 4K resolution and support for up to triple monitor configurations, as well as NVidia 3D Vision for up to triple monitor setups. GTA Online for PC, which will support up to 30 players, will launch alongside GTAV for PC and will include GTA Online Heists. Includes the new Rockstar Editor, which gives players a full suite of editing tools to create and publish gameplay clips direct to both Social Club and YouTube. 4K Screenshots The first six screenshots of GTA V for the PC have been released in their full 4K resolution. Click the thumbnails to see them in all their glory, they're also on our new dedicated page for GTAV PC screenshots. Vice City Kubrick Set

You may have seen these Vice City Kubrick action figures back in the Summer when they were made available at the Rockstar Warehouse. I never posted about them back then, but since we're approaching the holiday season you might decide you want to purchase a set now. They're just like the GTA3 Kubrick's we posted about last year, except these ones include the following characters: Tommy Vercetti Lance Vance Ricardo Diaz Candi Suxxx Ken Rosenberg They tie in quite nicely with the release of Vice City Stories for the PSP a couple of months ago, head on over to the Rockstar Warehouse to buy a set.
  18. The ESRB website has recently been updated to include two new entries for GTA games on the PlayStation 3, one for Grand Theft Auto 3, the other for Vice City. The publisher in both cases is listed as Sony Computer Entertainment America, which suggests both titles will be appearing as PS2 classics. This unfortunately means they're unlikely to be on the receiving end of any HD treatment, but still, they'll be nice to have in your collection. You can see the ESRB searches for GTA3 and Vice City showing the entries. I've included a couple of screenshots below in case it's removed for some reason: There's no official word from Rockstar on this, so we don't know of any release dates or pricing information. We're also not sure why San Andreas has curiously been left out, and/or if it may appear at a later date. On a slightly related note, this year will be Vice City's 10th anniversary. If Rockstar are planning similar things to what they've been doing for GTA3, it wouldn't surprise me at all if we see Vice City appearing on iOS and Android later this year either. Thanks to R* Network for the heads up.
  19. Here's a cool feature from Rockstar, some behind the scenes content for the original Vice City! Check out the interactive feature embedded below. And continue reading for more details. Rockstar will be posting all of the original files from the digital display, which haven't been seen since the original museum exhibition, starting with today’s Animation chapter seen above. Enjoy rare footage and sketches including: “Motion Capture”- a rare video showing a cutscene between Kent Paul and Tommy Vercetti going from motion-capture through to 3D model wireframe to finished product. “Sketch Book” - a progression of original character sketches through to final models and now-iconic illustrations of such folks as Lance Vance, Avery Carrington, Ken Rosenberg and more. “Tommy Moves”- a set of clips showing the genesis of Tommy’s animations whether jumping into a Comet sports car, dive kicking a biker off his chopper or running with a chainsaw... 20. Here's part two of Rockstar's look behind the scenes at the making of Vice City, as we celebrate the game's 10th anniversary this year. This part focuses on sound design. In somewhat related news, Rockstar North finally launched their brand new website yesterday. Anyone who might be interested in working there, or who has interest in game development may like to check it out. For ordinary fans there's not really much to talk about but it's nice to see the company get a beautiful website to show itself off.
  21. Rockstar have just posted up the final part of their 3-part behind the scenes look at Vice City. Today's part looks at the design of the fantastic city that we all spent so many hours in, some of us spending more time in this game city than we did in our own ones in real life!

  23. After an entire year of waiting (and complaining), GTA V fans finally got what they've been wanting today when Rockstar revealed heists for GTA Online, due out in an update early in the New Year (for real this time). A short trailer gives us a glimpse of what 4 player co-op teams can expect in the game. For those of you who want to know more about heists, and reasons why you've been waiting for more than a year, head over to IGN for an in-depth interview with GTA Online producer and lead mission designer Imran Sarwar. TL;DR: Turns out programming heists is really really hard.
