Just installed GTA IV on home PC, registered online, downloaded all required software, installation completed. As soon as I attempt to launch the GTA IV game with CD1 in drive, I get the message: GTA IV FATAL ERROR: DD3D50. I am a new online user from South Africa and welcome your assistance. I am running from a Pentium 4, 3.4Ghz, 2 gig RAM, Windows XP Service Pak 3, Tornado NVidia GeForce Fx5200 256 MB video adapter, 24" HpL2208W monitor, 1280 x 1024 resolution, 38 Gig available hdd space available. Thanks, Faheem Alexander.
Your graphics card is well below minimum system requirements, according to R*, an Nvidia Gefore 7900 is minumum.
That might be your problem, I would suggest upgrading your graphics card, you can get a descent on for around R800 - R1000, i wouldnt go below that price.
Sorry man

Okay, so I just bought myself pretty much a new PC to play this game. Here are the specs:
Windows Vista 32bit SP1
AMD X2 6000+ 3.1GHz
4GB RAM (3GB recognised)
ATi 3850 512mb
Resolution 1600x1200
And let me say that the game now looks beautiful and plays well at full resolution. Huge upgrade from my old 7900GT.
I do however have a few problems. Firstly, since reinstalling Windows, I have no idea where mine and my brother's old savegames are. I saved my old C drive, so everything is there, but I can't figure out where the hell they are.
Secondly, although I'm getting some pretty good framerates, every 10 seconds or so the game slows right down to unplayable levels for a couple of seconds, then speeds up again. I have checked program manager and there doesn't appear to be anything running which could be doing this (it's a clean install anyway) so I have no idea what the problem is.
I have downloaded and installed all the latest drivers etc (including ATi's newest driver).
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Edit: I have also tested the game at 1280x1024, 1024x768 and 800x600 and I still get exactly the same FPS drop.
Hay
You have basically the same system as me there, exceppt for the ram, tell me, are u having any issues with horrible looking shadows????
I still havnt found a fix for the huge fps drop. Hopefully the patch will help.
Let me know if u find anything

Any one got any ideas, I really want to play this game properly.

I think your problem is the processor, as said in the patch topic, it may enter in "green mode".
Are u saying that my processor is too slow???
No lol.
But isn't an AMD x2 equal to an Intel Core 2 Duo?
@ Davesta: Search the GTAIV News Section.
Sorry, misunderstanding there, it is a 3gig dual core proc, not sure what you meant about the patch topic??
In response to Davesta's reply, I am running at 1280X1024, another odd thing is that my detail setting keep
resetting to default, as well as my shadows always look terrible. I am not having any luck!!
