  1. Well I can say each person has his or her own opinions but here, let me say something...

This isn't original but it works especially if you invite them in the "welcome email" they receive when they register. Invite them to stop by and post a bit about themselves. Give them a few prompts in the description of the Introduction forum and/or in the registration email. Give them a reason to participate. A new member posting is an indication that your forum are open for other new members.

We gotta be sure and respond to those posts within a few hours. Letting those sit for days sends a message not only to this new member but to others who are contemplating their first post that you don't really care. Reply to their post and ask more questions. It doesn't take long and it worth the effort in creating a friendly beginning for a new member.

And remember one thing... You can always make friends with the help of the Introduction forum, believe that.

  2. Yo wassup guys. I have just joined the forum yesterday and would like to introduce myself in here. The name's Josh, I live in Ohio, U.S. and I'm 16 years old. I'm really addicted to the Grand Theft Auto series and Metal Gear, too. I am hoping to make alot of friends here like soon. If you're looking for my contact info, you can get them by visiting my profile link right here.

Thanks and see ya around... :bleh:

  3. I agree with you but IPB lacks in secuirty issues. And who said vBulletin costs for only $20? You got to be kidding me, right? vBulletin costs for $160 while IPB is $185. I have no idea why IPB is a bit more expensive than vBulletin. Weird. Not to be rude or anything but vBulletin deserves all the respect. I know you're not really a fan of vBulletin and I have even said exactly the same thing you have just said while I was using IPB back in the old days. One day, I went to test out vBulletin on my localhost and realized that vBulletin was a true bulletin board. I'm not saying IPB is pretty cheap or anything. I just wanna point out that vBulletin has more features & additions than IPB (and any other bulletin board). On that day, once IPB was no longer free and is now a paid bulletin board, about 75% people have moved and choosed vBulletin. There are many reasons why vBulletin is the best BBS. But I'm going to close this conversation before a war will begin lol. I just don't wanna flame on this forum as I have just joined it today. :P

  4. Our security was bypassed when one member gained unauthorised access to one of our moderator's accounts. This moderator had limited access to the administration panel. Upon gaining access, the hacker deleted several member's accounts, banned other moderators, and removed some user groups. We have spent the evening correcting these problems, and restoring some parts of the database from our daily backups, and we are confident that these problems have been corrected. If you think you have been affected by this, or there is still a problem outstanding, please let us know.

So you see, now that proved that IPB is damn cheap while vBulletin is way better.

  5. Actually this is a great idea and I thank you for making a thread like this. I suppose we should really have a Introduction forum. This way, users may introduce themselves on the forums and even make friends. I have an introduction forum already on my own forum and it's working quite well. ;)
