Damnit, I have the 60GB version....it seems to be happening to me as well.
-
I'm still debating....I have to be to work in the morning, so I wouldn't even be able to play it until my lunch break tomorrow anyways...but if I wait until my lunch break tomorrow, I'll spend half the time in the store buying it instead of playing it.
I'm not really sure what I should do
Midnight dude, it's just the feel of being there...
I've decided to wait until tomorrow....
If I didn't have to get up at 6:00 for work, hell yeah, I'd be there, but if I go, get back at 1 or 130, get to sleep at 2 (without playing any GTA, mind you), I get four hours of sleep...and instead of being able to play GTA when I get home from work (and at lunch), I'd be asleep within 30 seconds of making contact with my couch.
I must be getting old....putting work before GTA...

Did anyone get a call from their pre-order store that the game will be available to them on Tuesday? I got a recording from GameStop and they said I could get it on Tuesday, no earlier . They said "Grand Theft Auto IV" and not "Grand Theft Auto IV Special Edition", I don't think it means anything since it was a recording.
You guys?
Yep, I got the GameStop recording as well, Midnight Tuesday
-
I did pre-order though.
Well, then it shouldn't be a problem.
-
My fear is that the stores won't have enough copies of GTA IV... if they don't I'm going to be pretty fucking pissed off.
prepare to be pissed off.
Where I live, if you haven't pre-ordered, tough luck.

I'm gonna ask for it for my birthday, so it's probably gonna come from either Walmart or Gamestop. Doesn't matter, as they're effin' adjacent to each other.
Haha....not nearly as bad as by my apartment. There is a Gamestop next to a wal-mart, next to another Gamestop. Two Gamestops within like 300 feet of each other
-
I pre-ordered at Gamestop, PAID! I'll pick it up at midnight
Same here. It'll be a miracle if I make it to work in the morning.

On a lighter note, has anyone downloaded that UEFA Euro 2008 demo, I was thinking of downloading it but I want to get some opinions on it.
I downloaded it a week or so ago. I'd say its worth a try if you feel like waiting for the download. Controls are almost identical to FIFA 08. I think the cut scene player graphics are better than that of FIFA, but there seemed to be frame rate issues in all cutscenes....gameplay, not so much. Nothing about it really stood out one way or another, really.

Another great thing about the ps3 and 360 game save thingys would be that cars, damage and other things will remain even after you turn off the console. all the ps3's have hdd's, so surely it could save such data. i don't have a 360, so i cant say anything about it.... I hope that GTA IV does this.
While its true that the extra space of the HDD would allow this, I think the save file would get too large if it has to save every bit of damage to cars, buildings, etc.

a mix of excitement and sleepiness (midnight release at gamestop).
<---- that about sums it up

Bruce Willis
Hank Azaria (not really a big name, but he does 20+ characters in the simpsons, awesome voice actor)
Eddie Murphy
Burt Reynolds

Not necessarily, the vast majority of games for the PS3 do not support vibration because there was no dualshock on the PS3 until recently. It has definitely not been a PS3 standard. At this point, I think that if they were going to include support for the Dual Shock 3, then it would be more explicit than they are making it.
I just hope the install is 5 minutes like they say it is. Gran Turismo 5 took about 20...any longer than that I wouldn't really think of as acceptable.

I'd say go for it. True, there are other blu-ray players on the market for cheaper, but none of them can play PS3 games!
I've had my PS3 for about a year now, and I haven't had any problems with it. There's bound to be some games that come out for the PS3 only that you'd want to own the PS3 for, such as Metal Gear Solid 4 or Gran Turismo 5 (and MLB08, if you're a baseball fan, awesome game). Plus, there's always the possibility that GTA becomes a sony exclusive again (...okay, I'm thinking 1% chance, if that), but wouldn't it be good to be covered just in case? And like you said, if your 360 does crap out, then you'd still be able to play GTA if you got it for both systems.
What do I like about my PS3? Well, short answer is, everything. I know people bring up the lack of games, but I've found plenty to keep me busy, but I've always liked the sony games over microsoft ones. The Blu-Ray player is a plus (duh), and the fact that there's no subscription fee for the Playstation Network, even if it doesn't have as much content as xbox live.
Negatives? The Six-axis controller feature is garbage. I haven't seen a game use it properly yet. Good thing they're bringing the dual shock back.
For the extra you'd pay over a lower line Blu-Ray player, I'd say its definitely worth it.

I don't think PS3's have reverse compatability, at least not the 40GB. The 60GB edition did, but that is no longer selling in shops.
The 40GB does not. I believe that the 80GB does still offer backwards compatibility, though.

The skydiving part of learning to fly in San Andreas always got me mad....just so pointless, and too picky about it. Took way too many tries to pass it.
-
Very nice.
I'm not too fond of the font style of the text in the first one, it just doesn't fit in with the style of the rest of the wallpaper. Other than that, these are great!

Hmmm....Shooting with the rocket launcher while driving may be interesting!!!
....especially if its a heat seeker.....
-
The 40 GB version doesn't have backwards compatibility, so if you're looking to play your PS2 games on it, I wouldn't go with that one. The 40 also has less USB ports, thats not really a big issue.

I heard one of the guys at my local Gamestop say that there would be a midnight release. SOOOooooo.... you guys need to check your local gamestop too.
I preordered at GameStop, so thats where I'll be getting the game, but I won't be going out to get it at midnight (unless they have some crazy giveaway), since either 1) I wouldn't be able to wake up for work the next morning, or 2) I won't go to work the next day.
Maybe I need to work on a fake cough, lol.

You really can't base which system you're going to get based on one game that will be on both systems. Both versions will be basically the same (minus the DLC for 360), so either way, you're going to get an awesome game.
I have a PS3, and I'm extremely happy with it. I don't own a 360, so I really can't say anything about it.
Your decision needs to be based on your other gaming wants/needs, and what each system provides in terms of those needs.

The pay and sprays won't be available for losing the cops...they can probably still repair the car.

Replying to myself...seems weird.
Just an update here, I changed some settings on my PS3 and game, and have been playing for almost an hour with no problems!
Here's what I did
Turned off system/switch off power
Disabled Internet
Disabled PS2 upscaling and smoothing
Deleted a few demos, game saves, game data
Started game, disabled autosave and rumble.
So far, so good.....
EDIT: Game ran fine for the rest of the night until I turned it off at 11pm, about 4 and a half hours of gameplay with no problems. Hopefully it continues to run properly tomorrow.
