  1. http://www.polygon.com/2014/12/10/7364823/gta-5s-vicious-misogyny-ought-to-be-addressed-not-ignored The above dates back to last month, however, just last night the ABC TV show Nightline came on while I was casually watching TV and to my surprise, death threats and rape proposals to women gamers and those taking a stand against how they're generally portrayed in such game culture in which it's presumed male dominated. The console gaming realm versus that of tablet and smartphone or casual 'nouvoarcade' that doesn't require high powered devices for use. GTA's always come under fire, so it's not surprising to see it listing again, largely due to it's ever present popularity, but what the show did was to again vilify game makers and male game players, with few exceptions, it also failed to raise any intelligent views and debate, this is sad because I can think of a few! What also upsets me personally is Sam Houser reportedly took issue with the naysayers of gaming, he being the gamer of the two brothers, Dan Houser being the bookworm of the two; writer of the game's contents mostly... Sam Houser reportedly wanted to do a roundtable type discussion on violence and gaming, (which supposedly didn't happen because others weren't responding at the time) but we all know that you can't look to game to teach right and wrong, or morals, you can just as easily enter a SANDBOX designed game and walk and drive, or ride around without shooting a DAMN THING! It's up to each person to know their own actions, because these are what they instigate whether playing a GAME or engaging in REAL LIFE. That to me is the bottom line, the game plotting or things like playing as a terrorist or Govt official trying to gain information as was seen in GTA V this time around, it upset more then casual observers, to me it was nothing more then putting an idea into action to push an envelope, or to see something new in gaming, but it's also an invisible line one shouldn't cross. There are game ideas that terrorists would love, and they try and make War into an action film or video game propaganda wise. That's why we need to take an active and strong stance against such things, as we Mature into adult gamers, you becoming MY age eventually, you'll see that you've been wrong perhaps and start to feel rather foolish for your ideas and actions. Women should take up stronger roles in games like GTA, where they can be the males equal. As we have suggested, role playing swaps would allow more possibilities and women to play as their own gender instead of the atypical male protagonist. We've mentioned this before in Forum articles, I feel the right place, and I make my opinion known at Rockstar's site as well, I'm nearing 50 and I was raised in a strict Christian family, so they'd be railing against the same type of entertainment, but I take pride, like many as well, that I am not an amoral or immoral person and I can see the virtual need to let off steam, it's obvious the advantage of gaming in that area, no matter what the setting and type of game, they all offer a release, interactive entertainment at the core. There is also the very REAL argument about video games like these reflecting movies, books, AND the Real World, as the tech has evolved, the argument seems to carry more weight, but it's the same one, the people UNSUPERVISED with bad parents are shaped more by a bad environment then those who do have the benefit of a grounded development, it's sorely needed in the raising of Children in the modern age, I think this too should be obvious to most of us
  2. I've built a 1st gen G73J model Asus Republic of Gamer laptop, and I did buy an earlier 8800 Ultra, which sports higher memory bus speed, sadly, the nVidia revision over the ATI HD5870 used in the original G73 notebook STILL has only a 128 bit memory bus, what that means for on the fly processing is you're likely to encounter a data log-jam for video memory on hand! I wish we could keep that spec climbing. Reason being is some of the early 2000 era video cards ALSO had 128 bit vRAM (video-memory) I have to say, I was able to get a nVidia instead of the harder to secure ATI mobile GPU (you can score some good deals on the desktop variety, even setup an SLI with 2 or more cards! Or if you're an AMD fan still, Crossfire multiple GPUs. My earlier business B53J Asus uses HD5470 with Eyefinity, the intent is multiple HD output for monitors with your option of display (you can put four identical displays together to make one SUPER LARGE image, if the bezels don't get in the way! Also, nVidia does support the 3D mentioned above, nice to hear Rockstar might allow that feature to work with cards supporting it. Now, just as my example on a budget, the card I scored was UNDER 100 USD! That should be affordable for anyone, BUT will it be enough?!? That's a tough question at this stage. The Geforce 460m GTX with 1 Gigabyte or higher video RAM, the other option is 1.5Gb. If you have higher models, you'd have a 5xx or 6xx series GTX, so you know, GTX is the highest level nVidia outside of the Ultra class cards, but that seems retired from service now. The recommended specs dictate you're spending upwards of $1500 versus $400 on a PC versus console, Remember the 660 nVidia is still a current upgrade in the used market for gamers, and it's demand leaves it out of budget pricing ability to go with, as does Haswell Intel Core i7, most of which I'd been looking at periodically on eBay. Also, I've checked specs on my machines and they could easily be around 2GB system complete RAM dedicated for video with Shared RAM, depending on what you put in your machine for the memory chips you can remove and replace. This should account towards any required video RAM, regardless of where it resides, in a gaming laptop or PC, you have multiple DIMM slots for this ability, so CPU and System Ram won't be at a deficit when the 3D demand of the game is on, Asus designed the ROG systems with little creature comfort, no card slots (PCMCIA-Express) or Firewire, it's set for gaming only, so you really should leave all other HDD clutter elsewhere! (you get 4 USB, 1 USB3 on revision change, multi card reader (SD and MS), Modem and Ethernet, Wifi of course, but why a modem these days in all new laptops? I think they've done away with these on desktops for awhile now! haha The system RAM in one early G73J was tested to go full maximum DDR3! And I should point out, most current cards themselves use GDDR5, GDDR 5th generation which is lauded for it's performance. The G as you can imagine, stands for GRAPHICS, or GTA?!? hahaha Double Data Rate As for the delays, the heart of the message is these were rumors denounced by Rockstar at first, and the times, they have a changed as well. Should mean new staff for making PC ended games, more money to invest in that development, and lessons learned as well. All we can do is hope however, Like a Nightline report on American late night TV the other night, Rockstar DECLINED to comment for the TV newstory, and to me, that's expected at this stage, but also can do more harm then good. I'll report on this TV report in another thread here. As for Digital Rights Management, lets hope it's just more user-friendly, RE: EASIER!!! Then the one for GTA IV. The plus for GTA IV on PC is you could download an offline tool to register and get it going, you could uninstall and reinstall a number of times, so it's not impossible, and you should be logged into Rockstar Socialclub already, if you're a TRUE FAN worth a salt!
  3. Someone, nearly a week ago, at GTAForums posted a link they found with VGChartz stating the millions of sales thus far on PS4 and Xbox One next generation consoles, out for a short while now, and the delayed version for PC coming early this year. That post did see comments on the variance of Xbox Microsoft platform sales, Playstation 4, and the probability that pirates might crack and distribute free versions to those indiscriminate PC platform users who undermine game development and directly effect the actual cost of games to make and to buy. One person says he'll never understand those who triple-dip, well, my friend Rob also has wondered about double-dipping for home video releases long ago, it's something Star Wars fans have also been vocal about because in cases where a single product saw re-release, it was often done better and different in such a way that it was enticing the fan of the product to upgrade, to collect the definitive version or other rationale. In the case of GTA, you might prefer having all the versions for whatever you own, I often think this way based on being so engrossed in the game, whether it's Naughty Dog or Rockstar or some other top grade production powerhouse, their offering is usually good enough, but I did get burned buying a PS3 copy just after getting the collectors edition for Xbox, paying $150 or so just for two copies of the same game! It can be crazy, but for me, it was a first time event, I don't think I'll be that enticed again, at least to spring for a collector's edition. I would have and still do, prefer a t-shirt to a GTA hat that came in the deluxe box. You didn't get too much in comparison to what's now being offered as DLC style improvements and upgrades, however, you can sound off with your own opin on this as well. http://www.inquisitr.com/1731217/gta-v-pc-version-still-expected-to-launch-as-scheduled-rockstar-games-denies-delay-rumors/ One of a number of articles talking about GTA V's 2015 impact, most Anticipated Title just to kick off this year of releases! That alone will be interesting, also someone gave rise to thoughts again of a GTA VI, can it be a project underway this year (wouldn't at all expect a GTA6 release in 2015!)
  4. More spambot postings, I see this is going to be rough going at present

  5. If you can think of some other bands that didn't get a proper induction this many years into the RnR Hall of Fame inception, speak your mind in this thread. I feel just as I watched That Metal Show constantly making a case about the lack of actual rock bands who need to be awarded.... Making a case and being constantly vocal about it may make someone in charge sit up and take notice, as they should! http://rateyourmusic.com/list/JonFox/put_the_rock_in_the_r_n_r_hall_of_fame/ http://www.goldminemag.com/blogs/10-more-bands-snubbed-by-the-rock-roll-hall-of-fame http://www.rocksnubs.com/bands/
  6. Noticed the other day, thousands of guests in attendance, much more then the 200-300 normal on average

  7. Thank you, STAFF, for deleting the spam we had earlier today, I was here but not logged on that computer, so I couldn't notify you guys. Appreciate your cleaning things up!

      Chris

It was insane. I wasn't on for a period of about 48 hours. Started flagging manually as normal until I realised over 3000 posts had been made by about 300 accounts. Not sure how so many got through in such a short time, perhaps anti-spam service was down. Either way, I simply restored a backup from 2 days prior since there'd been little to no legit posts in that time, thanks to our inactivity!

Likely due to GTAC being down for the count still, we had a flood of Russian based members, so it appeared. My friend and webmaster Mike swept them all out, and it worked!

  8. According to a tech article I came across, on the 21st of this month, thereabouts, Microsoft is expected to showcase some new OS features for Windows 10. What I think about this news is that if Windows 9 will still succeed Win8, it's likely going to be less mobile multi-platform, whereas, it looks like Windows 10 will again be for mobile uses with Metro desktop GUI and a new browser that's more aimed at 'lite' mobile use, as Opera and other mini (Android) OS like browsers (PS3's I think as an example) can be used in SMART TVs and the like
  9. Any finds on info about this story, the coming release this year or early 2016, whether there is to be a franchise or not, post info about it in this thread. Just happened across this today,.. http://news.filehippo.com/2015/01/last-us-2-mentioned-resume/
  10. I think there maybe changes to gender roles (switching still a part of new GTA mechanics, one could play as male and female in the same game, after all, as it is, in GTA 5, there's a suspension of disbelief going on where you step outside your normal main character into the head, mind, and body of another. :Landscapes and environments are historically the first part of making any GTA game so location setting and how it's developed later play into how missions will work when the story is laid out on the created, fictional map
  11. Between New Years and Xmas would be better, but I hope Rockstar are doing serious game development for something more like RDR where higher elevations on a game map did have snow and ice, and lakes could be frozen over with ice, then lower more spring or summer like warm areas, the hope is for an environment that isn't as separated into gaming segments as GTA V was (the opening being in a winter environment but without benefit of free-roam)
  12. You refer to the 'bad' robber from the film HEAT with Al Pacino, just FYI for those who don't know. I find it funny that the most active postings are either related to MODs or CREWs. do you guys do anything else? Anyway, I've been paying for Xbox Live Online most all of 2014 with no use of it liberally as in the past, the main issue has been that I felt out of the loop since I was playing solo for the most part, the gangs and people I played with online switched their own operations so I lost track of what they were doing and when, usually they'd be playing RDR online or GTA online but new games came along and other online options, Netflix, etc. It feels like the real people I know in life, where they left to do their own thing, and the fun times seem a thing of the past. It's been harder in XBL or PSN to get with a group for an extended stay, I hope I can have some fun times like that again. I doubt it though, it seems I had some REAL fun times that would be hard to replicate in the future. Hope we hear of new Red Dead Redemption.Revolver followup in 2014! Doing that online segment fresh would be a kick in the pants!
  13. I believe this just with the mention of banning by Microsoft, wholly unsupported by Chris and this forum, with the graphic page advert, I'm not on staff, but would report such postings, as well asking for somewhat private XBL information that could be used against the original owner, to the best of my knowledge, is risky and suspect as well. Making money by sharing information and assets you may have isn't 'illegal' really, but it's also spamming up a forum board for regular discussion about gaming and news/entertainment subjects. This isn't Craigslist or eBay open selling and transaction marketplace. I'd like for everyone to keep that in mind, We'd rather come on here and read real people's thoughts, just as Twitter and Facebook provide in a more general fashion. When you say XBOX 360, you refer not to Playstation 4, Xbox One or XBLive, so the title implies you do Red Ring of Death or E74 hardware error repairs, which is welcome but also not the marketplace for here on The GTA Place FORUMS, not CLASSIFIED AD section or 'SERVICES'.
  14. A real rock legend and one of the most respected artists of our time, Mr. Joe Cocker has passed away, I found this out only on Wikipedia actually, and strangely enough. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Cocker Joe Cocker was so recognizable on stage that the late John Belushi used to do a nearly spot on impersonation, namely of his original Woodstock performance. He kept performing late in life, seeing his resurgence in the 80s film 9 1/2 Weeks. He will be missed, that's for sure. Even doing covers he was unique, but his duets were also notable performances.
  15. The one thing I hate about X-mas, Rockstar's one day party was THE DAY, We had to be with our family, us normal people! ARGH!!
  16. I got my source from ABC morning news, then my mom told me (in a later call) that President Obama had responded, even saying Sony should have conferred with him, that might not have occurred to any American business, but the relations of foreign countries and business is a vital part of the Nation. SNL, Saturday Night Live today has responded with an opening sketch by non other then Mike Myers as Doctor Evil, and even an excellent though depressing to me, poke at Laserdisc, putting the format down from my perspective. Home Theater peeps like me collected formats not only because we're tech fans, but to support formats in our library. Dr. Evil had several things to say to North Korea, and I can't show Copyrighted stuff like NBC so hoping if you're keen on it and missed it, you can find a source somewhere. Sony CEO was on CNN saying they would look for a channel to release the film, but still being mindful of liability to fans and that the threat had caused theater owners to refuse to show the film. One person on TV proposed the movie come to DVD and BluRay without theatrical runs, and the idea it could still make money, not the same amount as a theatrical run, I'm sure. This situation could still develop into some sort of war or threat from North Korea, who now propose to work with the US in finding who's responsible and that they would act harshly toward some sort of conviction, but if the US refused to take that offer, they would still threaten some retaliation in a veiled threat as Obama had suggested repercussions for Cyber hacking. This is something that's always been a threat of a World Wide Network of computers. Also mentioned that all Sony computers would be rendered useless by this terrorist organization, that could mean Sony Playstation as well as Vaio computers!! @Trevor P, I don't concur with your findings, I watched a number of sources on this subject now, and you can clearly see not everyone like you is writing this off as 'crazy' threats with no reality to them, it's REAL in a REAL WORLD and these people won't change their ways easily, the best cases so far has been Iran and Cuba, but there's still misgivings, ISIS aka ISIL is very much a threat, as has been Russia. The Geopolitics I refer to is the Countries outside the US relations to each other having a very real bearing on what we're seeing. RE" Kim Jung Ill, Team America certainly was the same type of Satirical comedy that would be offensive to those under it's gun, but it's also comedy and freedom of expression. My mom thinks that Kim Jong Ill was not as attuned to USA culture as his son, but I do think she got that wrong, as you pointed out, but North Korea hasn't had any paradigm shift since his death
  17. NO SPOILERS!!! ARGH! Anywho, I think it was the right tone, in relation to the Season opener and allowing us to bear the dreaded mid-season breaks needed before it starts up again. For me, I just got a cable service change, so I got HBO now, catching up with Game of Thrones as a result! NICE ...but I lost all the other premier channels in exchange for it.
  18. The Interview, comedy - satire Sony Pictures Cyber hacking supposedly brought about from promotion of the above film, much of Sony's electronic data was breached again, this time no word on PSN being targeted, but this angers me in the same way, hackers are supposedly Korean but no direct ties to the North Korean leader who was the 'target' of the film's plot. Now it's not like this wasn't done before, hello fans of South Park? Bigger, Longer, Uncut.?!?! Does World Police ring any bells? It was puppets instead of live action, could that be why it was taken for what it was? https://ph.celebrity.yahoo.com/photos/matt-stone-trey-parker-attend-los-angeles-premiere-photo-224305138.html;_ylt=A0LEV71wjZNUFk4AVUsPxQt.;_ylu=X3oDMTByODJtaWUzBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMwRjb2xvA2JmMQR2dGlkAw-- Anyway, The word out earlier was that New York were taking the most precaution for theatrical showing threats, but Sony is reportedly pulling the plug on any showing and 'erasing' records of the film, overstepping the cautious line where it appears they are caving in COMPLETELY to terroristic demands by this Cyber-criminal hacking group. The fact remains Terrorists of any stripe should NEVER win the day! I'm a movie, game, music fan, for years and years, and this just angers me completely. Sony isn't really an American company if you recall it's Japanese origins, but Hollywood in the USA is highly effected by such decisions. It seems to me in a geopolitical sense, this is about the politics between China, Korea, and Japan. The USA policy would be to heighten security around theaters as known the showing of the film would be the target, and people around those areas under the threat made. Also, Sony won't allow online viewing of the film, say via Netflix or other streaming services. http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/entertainment/news/stars-attack-kim-film-withdrawal-30846548.html
  19. DAMN CABLE RATES going UP BY 50 BUX That's INSANE!

  20. Now you've heard of the marching in mass through Times Square of Liberty City, er, New York City... hampering travel in NYC as well as Chicago and other key cities, nothing repeating here, at least in the same area or getting news, but the NYC incident of an unarmed black man being killed from sustained injury or rough handling by police means protesters will still continue to gather as is suspected for tomorrow to keep their message alive, Those interviewed the other day suggest that to them, this is the tipping point, people, the African American community in particular taking part feel enough is enough, and we only hear one side from Police and Authorities at present, however, I tend to feel enough people care that change is necessary, on the same token, NEVER compromising safety of officers OR the public, a more precise balance of that is required, with finesse I believe, so as not to be upsetting, but hopefully agreeable to those who are spearheading such movements. Those hot headed, Kneejerk reactionaries should NOT be given that credence however, they don't serve the greater good. If you're provoking police, SHAME ON YOU, not them, you're asking for the confrontation, not a passive or retreating force being granted. Shame on their parents too for not raising their kids properly. Respect and cool heads, and temper are required. Many people go through life without much issue with law enforcement, and I think it's because they don't feel entitled to have complete freedom to do whatever. Lawless Old West days are DONE. It's fact. Society has evolved,.... some might see traces of a breakdown, but I think we're strong enough as a collective group (World Wide citizens) to do the right thing ultimately
  21. My LG 47 inch is now up and operational, and my ordered remote came in. Sorry for the double posting, but this is to report that the LG HDTV for computer graphics and gaming is a worthy experience to report on for those interested in it's performance, and the use of large screen television for gaming via PC or console. This LG is reported via Everest to be made in January of 2009, A bit old, but one can't complain. Cost me less then $200 to repair, and could have cost me around $100 if I'd had the patience from the outset of the project. Anyway, Component for Xbox works great, PC via DVI to HDMI and the TV's various inputs show that there's no user direct control of resolution modes, other then widescreen framing. The imaging of GTA IV, the earliest generation of HD gaming from Rockstar gives you an idea of imaging resolution based on each console and connection type. My YouTube channel will highlight some recordings of the findings, it might be somewhat hard to tell, the best I can shoot video in is 720P The '47LG50' model TV I took in and repaired may not allow resolution setting via menu, but the inputs can be informed what resolution to present at via their source, what I was getting at above, so as not to be confusing, resolution is set from your console's menu, the inputs AUTO DETECT sources connection and will retain memory of the setting you chose, so that's the plus side, the TV side allows audio and video advance adjustment of hue into it's various RGB components and more, however, sometimes the presets with slight alteration offer a great experience as is without major adjustment options. In the Advanced menu you have color temps and AUTO custom modes, though I remain unimpressed, the original TV's list was $1365 according to online sales data. Having spent about 2 weeks now with it, at least a solid week, using cable and terrestrial/local sources, I can tell you I'm not disappointed in LG at present. Still I would favor 1080P as advertised on the set's bezel, be allowed from the set menu. I'll see about still photos as well, and I'd like feedback on your experience with big screen gaming, have you, for instance, suffered a case of 'burn in'??
  22. Have to forgive me posting here on the hottest TV thread without any other viewers in attendance, just here to recap that the Mid-Season wait is upon us for about 3 months. What I feel was a big ending, some think was anti-climactic. I thought it rather unexpected, but those online as well as off got SPOILERS they should have already anticipated by way of AMC's site, those on the USA's West Coast in a different time zone. Anyway, Here's the link about how well the series ended up for this latest season..... http://www.oregonlive.com/movies/index.ssf/2014/12/the_walking_dead_midseason_fin.html
  23. Well, it's the seasonal USA holidays again, 2014, to all those who do celebrate such things..... Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you got to see NBC TVs all Turkey Day themed SNL 40th anniversary show this past evening, even if not, hope you are reunited with as many family members as possible, it's always a nice event in our lives (speaking for myself) when everyone tried to get together in one place.
  24. The scary scene in Minneapolis the other day, a car driving over protesters appeared to be a deadly incident, I live only about a block away from where this happened, and it's been on nearly EVERY US news service I've seen, Inside Edition most recently this evening covered the riots and again mentioned MPLS, however, depending on where you hear this news, the info will vary, They excluded the portion about the car stopping several blocks down the street and the driver cooperating with police, the incident under investigation at present. One person on camera said that the driver felt it MORE important to get home for dinner then to stop and allow for the proper time and detour to safely avoid them. When I went to the store for beverage, police had already blocked off the intersection (the crowd gathered outside the police station and then went North to march along the freeway running from MPLS to St Paul, Minnesota, at that time the street was blocked but empty outside of police patrols. As to the issue, it's rather cloudy because people protesting weren't there, I'm inclined to even side with the parents of such youth if and really, only if, they practice a loving environment at home with proper knowledge of what their kids are doing on a daily basis, The police officer in question has said he was in fear for his life, believing Michael Brown would take his gun in a second attempt, however, even first reports I heard of this was that he was running away and then turned and again approached the officer, already having provoked some physical confrontation within his cruiser, where the initial incident cited took place, in very close quarters. The events that happened at that exact time and beforehand are still a mystery. People protesting forget what that means, they forget what lacking facts means, they forget that rioting, looting, and wanton destruction is hurting THEIR OWN community, it's not sending any helpful, positive message, it's pure acting in anger and thinking anything is then acceptable for you to act out aggression in any manner you see fit. They burned and destroyed their own community in effect, this has no reflection on the police force, only back on their own bad behavior as a response mechanism. Shame on those instigators. Plenty of people did peacefully demonstrate, and I heard quite a few intelligent remarks in light of everything, even store owners who had to endure great personal loss, and face the idea that they may rebuild yet again in that SAME community, that's some real strong hope, and I'd have to wonder if I'd ever feel safe in a town so violated by it's own inhabitants. (some were outsiders who saw a chance to stir the sh*t, it has to be said, but irregardless, they perpetuate this stereotype you mention, and we all know)
  25. Addendum; http://www.atomicbooks.com/index.php/rebel-ink-magazine.html A link to what I saw at my local store, if you can't find it and it has your interest ^
