@tyler, I posted these things before on different forums and just put them all together, so some of the stuff I said would be the same. Also, if I said that that's all I'm posting and I'll post more later, it's because they were different posts. I just merged all the posts to make one huge post. That's why some of my ideas of when it should be set are different also.

LOCATION, TIME: -maybe in London 2004

-India 2000

-Arabia 2003

-Chicago 1996

-Mexico City 2003

-Paris 2001

Morris

You had some good ideas, but many of them have been said before on this thread. (and by before, I mean less than 5 pages ago)

ragdoll should be included, and more manual powered vehicles is a good idea.

But your post (or combination of 15 different posts) has a lot of "more is better" ideas, which could be the downfall of the series. R* has plenty of technical things to impove upon in GTA 4 without having to cram more and more material, areas, side missions etc. into one game. The game will undoubtably be huge, so I don't think we need say "it should be 3 times larger than SA" or whatever.

I would leave story details up to Rockstar. Some of them were ok but things of that nature are better left to the pros. The mission ideas were good though.

Try to tone the length of your posts down a bit, or break them up into digestible peices. No one wants to read/respond to all that in one sitting.

People keep talking about gas tanks..... just sounds like a hassle to me.

Not really, since you don't use the same car for a long time in the gang. The only thing that would suck about it though is if your in a police pursuit and you have to fill up your car.

if you've all read my topic Joey Leone for GTA4, unless they use something similar to that for the storyline, i hope they make a new character for the player, and i hope he's black. i liked playing as CJ and being a black guy.

Character race doesn't matter to me.

I'm worried about rockstar doing the cities right in this game. The layout, detail, and overall feel of the three cities in SA wasn't very convincing. Some key failing points were the traffic and pedestrian interaction, which was contrived and pretty stupid.

And if they're going to revisit Vegas (or "Venturas") they should do it right, make casinos lively and believable, and make it flashier and more crowded, especially at night.

I agree with you 100%, this is something I pondered over a couple of times. On how gta3 and vice city had a "feel" to it. Sa has a "feel" to it you really can't put words to.

I would like in the next gta if they make a ghetto, make it GHETTO.

The slums in Sa were;nt convincing enough to make me feel like I was in ghetto.

a good example of this would be in vice on that one island with abondaned mansions on it

that felt like a ghetto

about the gas tanks, game developers will probly put this in driving games whether you like it or not.

The game Mafia has gas tanks in the cars if you did'nt know, just was'nt very noticable.

yes 3 most lively cities in america were like ghost towns in SA

well destrutable levels would be good but would require lots of memory so this would have to be a next gen system game

better car phsicys would be good also when you flip your car you should beable to reflip it depending on damage and type of car becasue it just sucks you get a car you really like then you flip it and can;t get it back but you should beable to rock it over dependign on type so it will not be liek you can flip or armored truck over again but a fast car

random events would be good like a riot or a plane crash that if you are listening to the news station it will talk about it when it is happening like robberies will happen that you do not comit gngs may blow up a building and there will be construction on that building for a set amout of game hours

more air traffic that is accuually real no fakes liek in VC where the plane flying with a banenr I to beable to shoot that thing down or crash into it

muilty play split screen I hated SA becasue you had to stay on teh same screen and only 1 person can drive I want to beable to make my own stucts where I can with a friend have a dog fight in the skies a race challenge or just kill each other

I would also like 2 play game set up say if you beat the game or can liek have gang wars where you pick a gang and 2 player picks a gang or teh saem gang adn you can fight it out.

I knwo 2 play split screen will take a lot of memory but if you can liek make it so you have to stay in teh same city and not the same block it would be great becasue my favorite thing to do in gta IS stunts I would love to be able to have my frind drive a car transport truck adn I can jump off the back of it when he is moving while I am on a bike or chase him through the city in a car or a plane

teh harpon gun that I mentioned in the weapons section

more car upgrades

ur ideas r pretty good.

destrutable, did u mean destructable. if u did, do u mean like blowing up things in the environment. if so, i hope they include that. they probly dont have to worry about memory cuz i heard ps3 holds a lot

and yes, u should b able to flip cars over, they shouldnt blow up when u flip them. and if a car is up right. u should be able to push it in is top

yes I did mena where you could blow up the level liek buildings but the only problem with this is if you are able to destroy any building that would require a lot of memory especally if teh blowen up chunks of buildign stay there and are still physical object what I mena by physical object is that every part is soild becaseu it other games I played when you blew up a buildign you where able to walk thru the chunk that fell off. and also if that happens you are able to pretty much make teh whole city a giant hole in teh ground and you would see mission start points burried or up in the air becaseu you blewup the ground where there were. so there has to be some disgresion when making destrutable levels like only at certain points in a game like a mission where you blow up a building or like old houses or only slight destrustion where if you shoot rockets at a building it wil creat a hole even one you can enter but it will be repaired over 1 game week or so. because if players a like me I know they won't be happen till every building in the game is a smoking pile of rubble.

another good addition would be the ability to own property liek where you buy a slot of land and have a choice of building you want to put there liek you buy a slot of land and put a car dealer ship or a factory or a park. or they could add a map editor and you can accually altor every thing on that land which would be cool becasue you could make your own stunt park or car motor bike or pedal bikes even skate boared if they put them in there but this may be going to far.

The main thing I want changed for this game, is realism. Here's some things I want changed for realism:

-Your first task is to find a laywer and you must pay him about $25,000 everytime your busted, this way you would try even hard not to get arrested.

-The missions should be more lengthier then just the regular 5-15 minutes. Some missions should be around 20-30 minutes long, but they should still keep the short ones.

-Time should be realistic, so instead of a day only lasting 24 minutes, it should last 24 hours. Another feature with the time they could add is that when you turn off your PS3 the game will still be running. So say if you shut off your PS3 then 4 hours later you start playing again, the game would advance 4 hours. The time should also work with real time, so if your playing at 10:00p.m., the game time would be the same.

-I want cars to use gasoline this time around. This won't affect the game this much since you only use a car for around 20 minutes or less at a time.

-I want the money to be more realistic. When you do a mission, you should get maybe $10,000 if you kill a guy, $10,000-$20,000 if you win a street race, and maybe up to $100,000 if you steal something. I want housing to be realistic prices also. So you would pay maybe $80,000 for an average home, and $1,000,000+ for a big mansion.

-Ragdoll physics should be included, 'cause there more fun then if you stay stiff, plus there more realistic.

-The traffic on the road was way to unrealistic in the previous GTA's. I live in a city with around 100,000 people, and New York City (LC) has at least 8 million, and my city is busier. I want to see the main streets at least 5 lanes wide and jammed packed with cars.

-When you fall off a building you should have a broken arm, leg, or something like that, and the hospital would fix you up. When you have your broken whatever, it should be harder to drive your car, or shoot a gun. This idea is a little to realistic for GTA and seems more of something The Getaway would do, so I'm not exactly if I would like this idea.

i agree with ur money prices for houses but think in 80's and 90's money was different then less costed more

i dont want petrol in cars thats taking it too far and if that is included the ability to turn it off like the sound difference on vehicals in SA

More guns the magnum from VC and those tools

extra car damage the front panals over ur tyres on your car didnt get smashed in SA but in VC, have the abilty to totally destroy a car

When it tips over it dosent catch on fire but the roof can give in to its harder to get out

increased AI (of course)

be able to do a style of liberty city survivour but with bigger map can come more enemies or harder to get enemies

Be able to pick ur character man women maybe skin tones (shouldnt matter) but the man has a different story line to womens

Here's some ideas for a map I want in the next GTA:

There should be three cities in the game. One city should be the size of San Andreas, and the other two should be about the size as a city in San Andreas (Los Santos, San Fierro, or Las Venturas. Besides cities, there should also be mountain ranges, rivers, lakes, farms, forests, deserts, and small towns. In total, the game should be three times the size of San Andreas

There should be at least up to 30 gas stations/corner stores in each city in the game (that's at least how many there are in my city, and I live in a small city).

There should be around 10 churches in each city, and outside the churches should be preists, bishops, nuns, or monks.

There should be three hospitals in each city, two small ones, and one big one. The hospitals should have interiors so you can go inside them.

You should be able to go inside the houses during day time.

You should be able to buy casinos, hotels, run down factories, mansions, houses, sheds, shacks, barns, big properties (once you buy one, no one will go on it anymore), small buisnesses, yachts, small boats, the harbor/marina, abandoned buildings, or any building that's run down.

-Your first task is to find a laywer and you must pay him about $25,000 everytime your busted, this way you would try even hard not to get arrested.

I disagree with this becasue if I get busted during the start of the game you got no my and this would suck and I know that people woyuld just save more and restart if they get busted becasue I know I would be tempted to myself.

-The missions should be more lengthier then just the regular 5-15 minutes. Some missions should be around 20-30 minutes long, but they should still keep the short ones.

I kinda agree and disagree with this but I rather see a muilty mission where I can break it up in to more than one mission but you got to finish it to get rewarded becaseu I know a few of my firend work and don;t have much time to play and also it would suck for 30 min mission if you keep dieing near teh end and have to keep repeating it over.

I kinda liek to time the way it is but it would be good to extend it like say 48 min for a day becasue it would suck if it was real time that becasue say you got a mission that is only able to play at night and you work nights for they next few weeks so you are unable to advance in the game I like the time unreal becasue it gives a good balance and i would hate to have to run home to get early so I don't have to do the mission at night.

-I want cars to use gasoline this time around. This won't affect the game this much since you only use a car for around 20 minutes or less at a time.

I could go either way for this Idea but I would hate to run out of gas inthe middle of nowhere becasue I was runnign from the cops because I have fliped my car in the country a few times in SA and I hate walking for 20 mins to get to town to steal a car. so this would make it happen more I guess I would prefer not to have gas

-I want the money to be more realistic. When you do a mission, you should get maybe $10,000 if you kill a guy, $10,000-$20,000 if you win a street race, and maybe up to $100,000 if you steal something. I want housing to be realistic prices also. So you would pay maybe $80,000 for an average home, and $1,000,000+ for a big mansion.

this would be good but it mgiht lead to gettign to much money in the start so it would take part of the beginging away.

-Ragdoll physics should be included, 'cause there more fun then if you stay stiff, plus there more realistic.

this is a great Idea.

-The traffic on the road was way to unrealistic in the previous GTA's. I live in a city with around 100,000 people, and New York City (LC) has at least 8 million, and my city is busier. I want to see the main streets at least 5 lanes wide and jammed packed with cars.

traffic is ok the way it is becasue I liek to go full speed down teh street but is it is bumper to bumper you can't move if it is a time mission you could lose becasue of traffic and it would take a lot of graphics to have that many cars so it would be better used to have better details over more cars but I would liek to see this at rush hour times only not most of the game just 1 or 2 hours game time

I hate this Idea becaseu I though of it be for and I would hate to do a small jump to get away form the cops and sprain or break my lag a bust me or kill me becasue I can't run or slowy bleed to death adn not get to the hospiltal in time and it would suck to slowly bleed to death becasue that means when you bleed to death is becasue of a bad injury and I don't need to bleed to death when I need my health the most

I think the best that GTA 4 should have it's:

BETTER AI, it should a lot a lot better and intelligent.

Havok Engine!! That would make the game 100 times better

HDR incorporated

Higher Res Textures

Anitrosopic Filtering

Ultra Shadows

Shader model 3.0 and DirectX 9.0c (reflects on water, mapping and other stuff aka HL2)

-------------

More Cars

A map very very large, or with parts. for example: Yo can go from San andreas to Vice city or another citys.

You can modify cars(buy new engines, windows, transimsion, and other things)

Speedometer

1st person

Maybe Gas...

You can get inside baks, locals, shops and steal the money!

When you have a pimped car, if you dont put in into a garage it DISAPEAR!! In the real life the cars dont desapear

When you are catched and you dont have money to sobornate the police, you have to escape from the jail or wait (depends on what you've done)

I think the most important of all (maybe) it's the AI and the Havok Engine plz!!

GTA 4 must have havok!

This is how GTA4 should go down:

(these points have been in development for a while now, with the ideas of you guys being an influence)

THE FUTURE - The game has been set in the present, 20 years ago and 10 years ago. Setting it in the future would allow the previous three games to intertwine, with stars from the previous games making cameos. My modest proposal was to call it "GTA: Liberty City 2010", but with the new PSP game out, this would most likely need to be changed. As for the year 2010, this distance of roughly ten years would be enough time to make sufficient improvements to the game, whilst keeping many things the same (i.e. the strong Mafia/Yakuza elements).

GEOGRAPHY - I see that most people are adamant that "bigger is better". I'm going to go against the grain and say that GTA 4 should be SMALLER IN AREA THAN SAN ANDREAS. But before you shun my theory aside, hear me out. I shall illustrate my idea by comparing GTA 3 to GTA Vice City.

GTA 3 - Liberty City - a game that flipped everyone onto their heads and established a new frontier for gaming. Then along came Tommy Vercetti and Vice City. Now this game (Playstation's most successful ever) inadvertently exposed all the weaknesses of its predessesor. Because once you've finished the missions, what else could you do in the city... drive around (without a map) killing people?

But Vice City wasn't a better game by breath, it was a better game because it was denser. It was approximately half the size of LC, but with more missions, stronger characters, a thicker plot (based on Carlito's Way and Scarface) and unrestricted travelling options, it shat all over GTA 3.

And that's what Rockstar need to do; look at the example of VC and say: "Let's not design huge acres of land that are never used. Let's keep condense the city like we did with Vice". Because as much as I LOVED San Andreas, I qestioned the logic behind the following:

1) THE COUNTRYSIDE - it was huge!! Yet how many meaningful missions were there on it. For me, (apart from the beautiful Mt. Chiliad) it was just a pain to drive around. 2) LOS SANTOS WESTSIDE - It was half the size of Vice City, with about 2 missions in total. 3) LAS VENTURAS - My least favourite city in SA because the huge outer ring was made up entirely of apartment blocks!

SAFEHOUSES - I agree with many people on this forum that the prices should be realistic (it'll make us appreciate them more). But in addition to this, a number of extras could be incorporated, such as:

1) A Helipad that you can SAVE YOUR HELICOPTER ON

2) A Dock that you can SAVE YOUR BOAT IN

3) A Yacht as a safehouse - how cool would that be? You could even cruise around in it and have some missions as well

MISSION IDEAS:

1) Underwater missions - cracking the last frontier of the GTA universe. Scobadiving amongst the sharks

2) Police missions - proper ones, where you chase down criminals like Carl Johnson and Tommy Vercetti. The missions could be dealing dealing with regular crims or they could be large-scale, multi layered ones

3) Sports missions - one thing about Vice City that made it so popular were all the business missions. Running a sporting organisation would be fascinating. This idea is in its grassroots, but maybe a baseball team that needs a pick-me-up could work

4) Golf course missions - there were 3 golf courses in San Andreas, none of which were used. I'm not saying you have to be able to play golf, but running the business gangsta style is the focus - not your handicap

5) Pilot missions - Transporting both people (in 747's) and cargo (drugs, cash, weapons) all over the country for money

VEHICLES - The speedometer is a good idea; maybe it could be a pop-up (e.g press left directional button to see how fast you're going). The following modes of transport would be introduced:

1) Big airline planes like 747's

2) Jetskis

3) Tandem bikes

4) 3-wheeled motor bikes

5) Hang gliders

EXTRAS:

Ammo icons - Isn't it annoying when you have an array of deadly weapons, yet only a few bullets/rockets for each one. This could change by introducing the ammo icon. Considering that whenever you pick up a new weapon, you get a certain amount of ammunition. The same could apply when you pick up this icon - so now 2 sniper rounds becomes 12, 4 desert eagle bullets becomes 20 and so on.

City development - it would be cool to see the city around you change as you go from mission to mission and town to town. Like in Vice City where Vercetti blows a hole in that building. If that building was slowly being reconstructed, that could later become another mission.

Weather - When it rains, it should flood in some areas. It would be even sweeter if it could snow.

Dude, about your points on size, the country side was not a waste just because it didn't have alot of missions to do. There is more to the game than doing missions. If you're like me, you like picking up the controller and cruising sometimes, just seeing how fast you can go and how far you can push some of the vehicles. The country side was AWESOME for that. BIG hills, LONG roads, curves, turns, ALOT of fun. I'm wanting bigger. Why? Because I want this thing to keep me busy for a WHILE.

teh AI should be inproved for the peds but not the cops becasue I don't need no cops that ambush me. but I would liek the option of changing the diffeculty level of the cops so when I fool around I can accually make it harder adn have more fun. I like the county to but it can be a pain.

I want a bigger game also I want to see a bigger city area becasue I love using the planes or jets and fly through the whole city dodging the buildings. another reason I like teh country is the trees. I like tilting my jet sideways and flying between them but half teh time I blow up becasue there is only so much space between them I once fly through the forest which I was liek wow I can't belive I did that.

I'd like to see more stuff to do with the army in GTA 4. There should be a large army base somewhere in the game, and you would constantly see army guys marching in ranks, shooting there guns, and stuff like that. You should also see army vehicles pulling out of there bases. Every so often the army guys should go out and march on the street. When you do something bad they should send in five trucks full of army guys. Then there would be five trucks chasing you and at least ten guys in each shooting at you. Also, if you have an eight star wanted level, all the army/cop cars should clear out and a bomber would go and bomb you. When you have eight wanted stars you automaticly know you will be bombed so you have to find shelter somewhere (like in a cave, or your safehouse.

This is how the wanted stars should go:

1 star- cops chase you down the street but give up easily

2 stars- a cop car will chase you for a while and it will be harder to get rid of

3 stars- 3 cop cars will chase you and they won't give up unless you give them a bribe or repaint your car

4 stars- 5 cop cars will chase you plus two helicopters (one cop, and one news)

5 stars- 5 cop cars will chase you, two helicopters, and a Patriot leading the cop cars

6 stars- 5 cop cars will chase you, two helicopters, two Patriots, and one tank following behind

7 stars- 5 cop cars will chase you, two helicopters, two Patriots, three tanks, and one Hunter will start shooting at your car

8 stars- All the cars will be cleared and a bomber will fly over your car and bomb the surrounding area + it will shoot you with it's guns

New weapons I'd like to see are:

-Paintball gun

-Beebee gun

-Scisors (sp)

-Sludge hammer

-Rope (strangle people)

-Brass knuckles with blades

-Pellet gun

-Rocks which you can throw at people

-Sword (not a katana)

New vehicles I'd like to see are:

-Bumper car

-Longer limos

-Hummer limo

-Horses

-Horse carriges (sp)

-Bettle

-Skateboard

-Military jets

-More military vehicles

Some random things I'd like to see in GTA 4 are:

-Set in 2006 Detroit/Windsor

-Lots of gangs

-Own buissnesses

-Use bombs to blow up things (but construction would rebuild it quickly)

-Start your own group by getting random peds, giving them guns, and your gang clothes

-Ability to customize your own gang tatoo/gang graffitti

-Customize motorcycles

-Own a car dealership and take them on test rides (like you did in Liberty City Stories)

-Have unlimited space (this way you can fly as high as you want, or go as far as you want)

-They should bring back our favorite songs from previous GTA's (at least 20) and put them all on a single radio station

Link to post

you can't get unlimited space really

I know in SA you can fly out for a very long time but it has it's limites adn it is just wasted space

I rather have another city rather than 10x the hight limit

and you also messed up your star system

you missed the swat cars which I like they are fast and strong and you missed unmarked cars the FBI

but every thing else you mentioned was ok but I rather not see a bomber but it would be cool'

I want to see GTA become international and when you switch countries you lose your wanted level.

but I want to see a mission where youd do somethign really really bad and you leave the USE becasue you know your good as dead there and when you get the another countrie you don't have a wanted level but you get seceret CIA guys comeing after you so you are forced to change your clothes and hair style alot and also you can not stay at the same house you have to change house every time you save but you can go back to them after five stays some where else but you get them off of you by doing certain missions in the next city. an dyou get on this mission when a guy from teh CIA contacts you in the public becasue one of they guys you worked for set the deal up and it is your only way out and basicly you have to go to anotehr country and assinate a political leader and during this and after this no CIA will come after you.

Before San Andreas was released, I saw the Grand Theft Auto games as this:

Getting into the shoes of a law rebel who killed who he wanted, stole what he wanted and, pretty much did what ever the hell he felt like doing. It was also about being a laggy for The Itallian Mafia, working your way up, and eventually ruling everything.

GTA3 was amazing, but then came Vice City, and GTA3 became nothing but what it really was, a prequel. Vice City had many more vehicles, land ownership, change of clothing, more interactive missions, The Main Character had more of a background, plus; he talked.

Then, when I heard about San Andreas, I was quite excited. I heard of a map three times the size of VC, weapons of sorts, statistics system, interchangable vehicles, interchangable character (clothes), and much more. So did some research and found out that San Andreas was revolved around the concept of modern gangs... This made me nearly cry... Finally Channukah came, and my mother got me SA. I played it, beat it, and everything. I loved most of it. Swimming, custom race cars, the huge maps and, let's not forget, gambling. But... It didn't feel like Rockstar's other pieces, with their "too cool for school" Mafia feel. It didn't cut it for me.

So what I am trying to say is; Bring back the Mafia.

Post your ideas on what you want to see in the next GTA, and i'll send this off to Rockstar to make you all happy. :D

Oh and also the best ideas posted here will also go on GTAFour.net for all to see. ;)

Here are mine, some are from what I posted in San Andreas wishlist but werent in the game

- A Speedometer!

- When your tires are popped they should shred down to the rims with sparks flying everywhere

- you should be able to do things to the enviroment like chainsaw down trees to create a roadblock or hang on branches to snap them off and whack people with it

- be able to pick up stuff like bricks to smash windows

- or pick up plastic bags to strangle people

- more weather- it would be cool to have Snow, and maybe a tornado like once every 2 months game time or something and earthquakes or hurricanes

- more main missions

- you can cut stuff down like bushes with machete

- using cutting things like katana etc cuts off limbs where you hit them

- R3 air ambulance missions in a heli!

- trees and power lines should fall down and electrocute people in storms
