PSM Spain has an exciting new article in it's latest issue, with 20 new screenshots and a decent amount of information on GTA IV's multiplayer modes. Here's a quick summary of the new info, and below that, a list of the multiplayer modes.

  • There are 15 multiplayer game modes in GTA IV. PSM played 7 of them. The rules of each game are set by the host.
  • There is support for up to 16 players.
  • Your online character is fully customizable. You can alter his race, sex, hair, clothing etc.
  • In Race and GTA Race, the host gets to decide the vehicles you can use, number of laps etc. You're able to shoot and throw molotovs from the window, and also steal opponents' cars.
  • In Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, the host gets to decide the number of pedestrians, amount of traffic, police (on or off), and type of weapons
  • In Cops N Crooks, one team are cops, the other, crooks. Cops must stop the crooks from escaping. They can monitor the locations of the crooks on their GPS. Crooks don't know where the cops are.
  • In Mafia Work and Team Mafia Work, you play as one of Kenny Petrovic's mafia henchmen. You must complete hits ordered by the boss (via the cellphone) before your opponents can.
  • Hangman's NOOSE features co-op play. You and a friend will be able to escort a mobster, while being pursued by a SWAT team.

The available multiplayer modes:

  1. Hangman's NOOSE
  2. Car Jack City
  3. Bomb da Base
  4. Bomb da Base II
  5. Mafia Work
  6. Team Mafia Work
  7. Deathmatch
  8. Team Deathmatch
  9. Turf War
  10. Cops N Crooks
  11. Race
  12. GTA Race
  13. Deal Breaker
  14. Free Mode
  15. Car Jack City

Big thanks to nevermikel for all this information.

:dribble::lolbounce::worship: I love all of you, and i'm not ashamed to tell it. This game is gonna be THE SHIT. I didn't think they would make it this complex, but once again R* has shocked me. It's like they read my mind or something. Matter of fact, they read all our minds. Well boys, it was a long wait, but it was worth it. Get ready to become unified on April 29th. I hope to see you all there, and it will be an honor to put a bullet in you.

This is amazing, ive been wanting this forever. I cant fucking wait. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

One question though, do you think that it will have a split screen for just you and a friend at your house like if you dont have online, or will it be limited, or will it not exist at all? plz respond.

I been wondering about that too, there hasn't been any mentioning about it. But there's a good chance offline multiplayer will be in the game. If you can have free mode online, why not offline.

ahahaha!! yayyyyy this is gonna be fucking awesome!!!! ahh why the hell does it have to be another month n a bit away!! someone put me in a coma so when i wake up i wont notice the time!. or if i end up dreaming of gta 4 it will be torture.. so second thoughts dont put me in a coma..

and i think it will not be split screen. almost all online multiplayers are just full screen with all the characters on screen.. i HOPE its like that because i hate split screen!

rockstar you are the man!.. woman...YOU ARE GOD!

That would make me very mad. If I can't play offline with a friend then multiplayer makes no difference to me. GRAW2 and many other games are made for online but include offline because more people actually play offline than online players because of several factors. It'd be kind of a bad move to make local play on San Andreas, then drop all multiplayers but online.

in that case for offline yes.. split screen would be good yes .. but no more than 4 people i'd say. cause then the sreens are just too small. thats my only issue is that the screens become really small so you cant really see whats going on, but with tvs getting bigger n bigger.. someone with a 20" will get a worse image than someone with a 102" but i have a 32" in my bedroom with me ps3 so yeah .. it wont be too much of an issue.

@ mark123

That's true. If it's like Halo and other games you can system-link if you want more than 4 players. Meaning you'd have to have 2 TVs and systems.

But myself, I'm fine with only 4. I only have 3 friends over at once usually - and we loved running around on San Andreas, despite it's great limited abilities. It got boring, but I know we'd spend a whole weekend just sitting around playing GTA IV the first several times they come over.

Free Mode sounds amazing, but I wonder if you'll be restricted to only one section of the city? I think the host should have an option as to if they want the whole city open or pick a certain location on a map.

To expand on what I mean by saying picking a certain location on the map, the host could have the map in front of him on his/her screen and create a square around the area he wants, get what I mean?

^ I'm guessing you'll be able to pick the area you want to frolic in, but I doubt you'll be able to customise the region you'll be exploring, although anything could be possible. Having the whole map open sounds a bit too advanced, IMO, especially if the city is packed with pedestrians, cars and the rest of it, with 40 rampaging lunatics blasting each other to bits. I'm just happy with a multiplayer mode, in whatever form.
