Names Of Countries

Hello,

In recent times there has been debates and protests in Macedonia due to a suggested name from the surrounding counrties of "New Macedonia" of which was disagreed towards by the Macedonian residents. Macedonians are now offended if the term "F.Y.R.O.M" is used and if the full term "Former Yugoslavian Republic Of Macedonia" is used. Macedonians are making strong points for people to use the term "Macedonia" as the country name and have created many posters. The term offends the Macedonians due to the history of WW I where the surrounding countries had taken parts of the Macedonian land and Yugoslavia was broken up. Macedonian now has slogans such as "Don't F.Y.R.O.M Me" and "Say Macedonia!"

I have created this post to aviod new users from being offended. I am not too offended beacuse I have the Australian flag near my avatar as I was born in Australia and I live in Australia. I alsomake this beacuse Macedonia is one of my two backrounds - Italian/Macedonian.

The country list we used was the most up to date I could find at the time it was implemented, so don't blame me, I know you're not but I'm just saying. I see the country is now the Republic of Macedonia so I'll update when I next get a chance.

Europe changes all the damn time though. Like when Serbia and Montenegro split. Had to change it then and add new flags and stuff :P

Thanks for letting me know.

LOL well he lives in Australia too (do you ALL live there? Why Australia? It's like Croatians, there's shitloads in Australia... weird) so yeah. If he is offended it may be lulzy to leave it for a while to see if he starts making serious chat topics about Yugoslavia and shit :P

I kid, I'll change this whenever is next convenient, it's not a particularly important issue.

LOL I'm not affended

I don't really care, because now it's called Republic of Macedonia.

WE WIN!

So why would I care! lol

@ Chris

Go to Melbourne, everywhere you go, you'll hear Macedonians talking Macedonian.

In pizza shops, there's Macedonian Pizza, in sausage shops, theres Macedonian Sausages, in beer shops, theres Macedonian beer (Skopsko)

I was amazed, when I went there like 2 weeks ago.

Australia, (mostly Melbourne) is like a second country for Macedonians.

They started moving here ever since Macedonia was parted, in the Balkan wars.

Thats good, in my opinoan, I am not too offended. I have not been invloved in any of this mess with the name as I do live in Melbourne. I have also been to Macedonia and Italy. I did see many posters in Macedonia supporting the dislike of the name Former Yugoslavian Republic Of Macedonia.

You do aslo hear Macedonian in sectors of north Italy and English in the bigger cities of Macedonia. You also her alot of Italian and Macedonian in Melbourne although more Macedonian.

That did not have to be translated, people feel that way.

I do make to want a fuss although the name is still wrong.

Please change the name is you can although it is good that you took our the "Former" and "Yugoslavia" parts out.

Just change it towards "Republic Of Macedonia"

Alright people just chill the fuck out. Chris clearly knows this is her and that there's an issues, and he'll change it when he gets the time. Think about it, only Macedonians, who happen to be offended, who happen to visit here, who happen to hover over another Macedoinian's flag, and who happen to have an account to post with are going to make this a notable issue.

And if you want to talk in your native language, take it to one of the specialised topics, or to PM, not here.

I speak fluent English and I live in Australia, I do not see that I have any person to thank other than Chris and ther founder that the help they have given was great.
