My New PC

Recommended Posts

Guys, I just contacted Newegg about my monitor.

Good News: It took them 15 minutes to respond to my e-mail on a SUNDAY EVENING. Also, the monitor will eventually be back in stock.

Bad News: It'll probably be more than 2 weeks before it is back in stock.

I can wait 2 or 3 weeks. However, they never said whether they anticipated the price going up or not.

I'd take those contrast ratio blabla with a pitch of salt.

Just read some reviews to get an idea. The specs say pretty little these days..

The OCZ Freeze stuff is great. Works under sub-zero too (I used it for dice)

OCZ Vertex SSD is quite a nice thing too. Not worth the money if you ask me though. I'd wait another 4 months before buying an SSD, but it's a nice thing nonetheless. And I can't see any other storage device in your setup. Seriously, you plan on doing with 60GB? That's rediculous.

I'd dump the Vertex, get two Samsung F1 1TB discs (RAID 0 or JBOD. Just make manual back-ups now and then..) and get a GTX285 instead of the GTX 260. Or at least a GTX275. If you're a power-user, you'll probably not survive with 60 GB. In fact, most casual users even don't these days. Fit in at least 500GB.

Cooler is fine and will handle overclocking. But then we come to the CPU of choice. Personally, I would have stuck to a Yorkfield CPU, but it's your choice. It's good. But those Yorkfiels are quite the OC'ers.

Other then that, I'd get a different case. If you like the 900, then please just get a Antec 1200 (Personally I thing the 900 is pretty ugly, but that's just a question of taste, but the 900 is for the people with a medium budget, 1200 for the more hardcore ones (IMO), so I'd get that one. 900 isn't all that big either.)

Nice setup though. Just bump the Graphiccard up a bit, dump that Vertex drive (and the Blu-ray one, as you're probably not going to use it for the coming year), get some big HDD's and change the case and you've got yourself a very nice machine.

((Huge E-Penis guaranteed!))

Lol, I think the Antec 900 is beautiful! Also, if you'll remember, I was the one on here and Tom's Hardware ranting about how no matter what anybody said, I was going to go with an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550. But hey, eventually they convinced me. Also, an lol to you Jace, because if you had read my post more carefully, you would see that I did in fact select a GTX 275 and an additional WD 1TB HDD.

And Jace, I'm suprised you didn't say anything about 3 optical drives plus the external I have now..... :P

Also, Right now, I'm surviving on 63 GB. When I get my new PC, a 30GB folder will be manually transferred to my 1GB (Its all Movies and music, etc.), and Vista (20GB) and everything else (Totals ~25GB) will be transferred to my 60GB SSD, which will serve as my main drive. I'm too lazy to reinstall everything, (plus some can't) so all my apps will go on the Vertex, and as I get more programs etc., I'll put em on the WD until eventually just about everything will be on the WD except the OS. This is because my transfer software can only transfer over to one HDD as far as my knowledge tells me. But if I'm wrong, EVERYTHING other than Vista will be on the 1TB. ALso, the only reason I went with a 1TB was because of the great deal, superb speed, and I need room for all the TV I plan to record.

So yeah.

EDIT: Oh, Sorry Jace, I just realized that in my first post I accidentally wrote 260, although the model number was that of a 275. Whatever, I meant 275. And guys, there were a few changes from my first to second build post, so read the second!!!!

ANOTHER EDIT: I've corrected the first one.

EVGA 896-P3-1170-AR NVIDIA GTX 260

Looks like a GTX260 to me, buddy.

I probably missed the 1TB though.

And who cares about optical drives.. beh, they're all the same. And BD is useless for now.

I don't know what type of user you are, but 63 GB is quite... little.

Program files alone take something like 320 GB for me. Then still music, documents, pictures and video editing stuff to add to that.

Getting in about 15 to 20 GB a month, most of which I do not delete. So yeah, I wouldn't be able to survive on that 1TB disc.

BTW, I'd take a Samsung F1 instead of the WD one. They're faster (but a bit less reliable though..)

Edit: Well, I now see the second post.

I'll come up with comments about that one when I wake up. Too sleepy now...

Good night.

Also, if you'll remember,

Remember of what? I haven't been active for over a year now.

Read my last post, THOROUGHLY.

Everybody on here and Tom's Hardware was constantly trying to convince me to get the i7, but I constantly refused. But at last, they swayed me. And the Nehalem's are excellent overclockers too.

4 cores. 4 cores.

You're probably not going to have any real performance boost because of HT.

The Nehalem arcitecture is barely any faster. Thus higher clock speeds are quite a bit better.

You should be able to get that Yorkfield to 4,4 GHz. I don't see that happening with the 920. I give 3,6 GHz, not mucht higher (though I might be wrong).

That will make the Yorkfield significantly faster.

What are you going to use your PC for anyway?

First of all, I don't want to clock big.

Second, because of HT, the i7 can process 8 threads at a time, basically making it an 8-core CPU.

Also, Good News! Looks Like it won't quite be 2 weeks waiting time for my monitor! :)

Remember, they're not physical cores, 4 of them are virtual cores, which duplicates parts of the processor. It still gives you like a 30% increase though. I do sort of agree with Jace, the i7's aren't meant for general use, mostly used for hardcore gaming, HD video rendering and CAD etc.

Overall, it should be a decent setup, good luck with building it.

I bet your gonna cry when you find out that Grand Theft Auto 4 is not working on your PC. Its not best using a crispy computer like yours on games like gta4 imo. Some of the greatest computers don't even run it. So I'd say just keep adding more greater stuff into it.

BTW: Raybob how in the hell did you get your computer from? How much does it cost?

I got it from Newegg. And how won't GTAIV work?

I'm gonna use it for pretty much everything. Firefox, MS Office, Google Earth, GTAIV, Music, Blu-Ray, TV Recording, Video Encoding, CD Ripping, etc. Lots of stuff, often all at the same time. It should all be compatible.

But everything else will still work...........................(?)

EDIT: Would I see a major difference between a 21.5" and a 23" monitor? I could save $40 and put myself back under $2,100 if I got the exact same 21.5" version of the monitor I selected.

And for my monitor I am going to be using the Dell XPS 20'' Monitor. Beet dat

Thats what I am getting as my new gaming computer/ recording computer. Any suggestions?

What? Look at the specs. My PC would slaughter yours with a rusty butcher knife.

And again, how will mine not run IV? It clearly meets the requirements, and it's not like it's a $5,000 system. And I've seen others with similar specs run the game.

And yes Husky, because GTAIV is the only thing you can do on a PC. >.<

Here is what I found out what I can do Raymond:

- Play Grand Theft Auto IV. (In a fine, not busted ass kind of way)

- Recording Games, HDMI dangit!

- Firefox , and the rest is just gaming material

- And other games. NOT just IV.

But really Raymond, wake up. GTA IV, Mozilla Firefox , Google Earth , Music , TV Recording , CD Ripping and a whole lot of shit? You'll need a few more tune ups to run all of that stuff buddy. You would also have to worry about:

- Trojan Horses

- Adware

- Worms

and a whole lot of PC threatening stuff. And plus do you know you have to Download Firefox , and Google Earth? Plus GE slows the shik out of your computer, like for real.

And btw, my PC is only going to cost about $1,000 worth of new used parts I buy from the store. Its much fuqing better than buying it off an auction site. I would totally feel like a dumbass buying a computer of the internet for 5 G's. And especially I would have enough seance to build it myself than just paying way too much money to get ripped off.

Plus mine is just for gaming. Not a multitasking gaming/home family/business/ homework PC.

He can just download anti-virus software to deal with that? Besides, what does it matter if he downloads Firefox. He has a decent download speed and an i7 will definitely be able to handle Google Earth.

It's a shame you don't have enough 'seance' to spell words correctly.

Its a typo gtadon. You know what I meant.

I'm using software to transfer everything from my PC to my new PC. This includes AVG 8.5 Full, Spybot, and Zone Alarm.

And my PC will be able to do everything yours can, and more. I can play any game out there right now with the hardware I got. In fact, my PC is so powerful, that I could EASILY convert H.264 to MPEG4, run Google Earth, Firefox with 12 tabs, record TV and run a virus scan all at the same time. I got PLENTY of RAM, plenty of CPU, (8 threader) plenty of GPU (GTX 275), and PLENTY of HDD (60GB SSD and 1TB WD Black).

Fuck dat bitch.

Also, it's not an auction site, and I didn't spend 5 grand. And seriously, gaming is a fairly useless hobby, that probably won't really get you too far in life. I only play GTAIV on my PS3 for like 2 or 3 hours a week at the most. Maybe like a 30 minutes after school a few days a week.

What? How can you say gaming is a useless hobby? If gaming to you is useless then why join a gaming site filled with gaming? I play GTA IV on my PS3 for like 14 hours a day. Which is 14x7 you do the math with your new pc. And of course my pornographic laptop can run Firefox with 12 tabs too. So... You are calling me a looser cause I play my game all the time wow.
