TGTAP Experts

The idea sounds good, considering the Elites don't really come on nowadays (Except Jace and Bear who tend to make their visits).

I say go for it. If it's something to do in Graphics or what not, that's fine with me, considering I haven't played any GTA's (Except GTAIV) in a long time. It would be good for to brush up on my knowledge again for it, but I'm busy enough with college so Graphics is really my thing for the time.

But the idea is good, I don't know whether this will work cause this can still be abused, unless there's some sort of measure taken place when you are one of those experts. But I'm all in for it.

Experts for the Portable GTA's is a good idea since most people who get LCS or VCS on the PSP just want to use the Cheat device more then anything else. Just one thing though, LCS and VCS were both ported to the PS2 with a few new things added and bugs fixed. Well I guess in the end, they are still considered the Portable GTA's.

Even though the elite group would be replaced with this idea, could it still be possible to have a somewhat smaller alternative to the current group with a completely different name and more active members. Obviously the importance of an alternative elite group would be limited but it would be smaller and possibly more respected.

Look at the current elite group for example:

  • Hardly any members come on everyday or at least once a week.
  • Because of the above, it isn't really known by the newer members and has faded away.
  • The last members to be added to the group were in 2007 - albeit soon after I joined.
  • The only member of the group who seems to come on is Bear.

This makes me think that the elite group should be restarted and not fully replaced by the experts system. The experts only specialise in a certain topic and anyone can become one but can anyone become an elite? All I think the elite group needs is a revised list of members - some of whom deserved to be elites but haven't been on for months or years.

There is an inherent flaw with the Elite system. It expects elites to form their own sub-community and talk in their own subforum, which doesn't happen because the existing community (and the gangs) are good enough, and thats where people spend their time. So apart from the badge, there's no point in being an elite.

Elites are picked by Chris and are simply the people he thinks are awesome. It doesn't mean they are active, or friends with each other. It's not MEANT to be active people, just awesome people. So it's all kinda pointless. It wouldn't work if they were democratically picked or anything like that, and revising the list would only happen if Chris thought they really deserved to be elite, which may differ from what you think.

Experts are completely different because they are embedded into THIS community, instead of forming their own. It's not a medal or a reward, and not a job, just recognition for the work they already do. We're not asking Experts to change, just to keep up the good work.

Having Experts and a revised "active awesome members" group would be confusing and pointless. It just sounds like you want the elite badge of honour tbh.

i thought that staff pick the Elites, not just Chris?

Since a lot of you actively want to be recognised as an Expert, here's another suggestion.

How about we make the appointment of Experts a public event? Like the awards, but smaller and more focused. Every Expert candidate runs a campaign to prove how helpful they are, and the community can vote yes/no on them? Just an idea, cos I think awards are a bit pointless (although fun), and this might be a way of doing something useful with them.

This should still be based on helpfulness rather than coolness or popularity - but would members just gang together and vote for their unhelpful-but-cool friends? If so, they could run a public campaign, but the decision is made by a judging panel (like The Commission, but with Simon Cowell) rather than an all-member vote.

The whole campaign idea seems a bit weary to me. I mean what will the they do? Post a topic saying why there so great? Send a speech to members through PM?

I personally think it would be a better idea for staff to have their own private topic. Every time they see a member being helpful, they note it down. Then the staff pick 3 candidates out of this list and message those members asking them questions (kind of like a job interview). Then the judge panel would intercept who's answers are the best and who seem's the best fitted for the elite position.

I like that idea, but the problem with having "forum" experts is that it would look like they were giving official advice on how to use the forum, what you should/shouldn't do, which is the job of the staff. Don't want to risk them looking like staff, or look like they are "in charge" of anything.

If they were very visibly just helpers for new members (I remember Habbo doing something like that), then that could work.
