Why do Bullies beat up or pick on people?

Maybe you were bullied because you can't speak English? imjustsayin

I was bullied through Primary school, teachers never helped, and it got pretty bad at one point. But I just lived through it, learned to stand all kinds of abuse, and came out the other side with a few bruises and a dented ego, but alive. Sure it's hell at the time, and it can cause all kinds of social anxiety problems etc in later life, but you gotta live through it.

My regret is not fighting back. Although I was always the one who got in trouble (since the teachers had already given up on the naughty kids), I think I had good reason to stand up for myself and beat them down instead of just sitting there and taking it. But oh well, maybe next time.

- Revenge

- Because some people should just shut up.

That's all I can think of at the moment..

I used to be bullied, now I bully others.. Well, just the ones who annoy me. Leave me alone and you're OK. Just don't start interfering with my business. And I bully people who are very arrogant, because they should just shut up.

I never bully fat kids and the like.

And I go one on one. I've always thought that acting in a group in sort of sad and cowardly..

Looking back, being bullied did make me a significantly stronger person.. Just made me very sad back then..

You done well, I remember when I got a bit of bullying in primary school, I got through it though with the help of my brother (no violence was used).

Got to agree though teachers absolutely do nothing, they they do but they don't especially at Primary school. At secondary school things get easier as people (I have found) don't get bullied as much as I think the bully then gets picked on by others.

Bullies usually I would say bully because they have their own problems, at home usually and probably just need to take it out, I remember reading somewhere that a large number of bullies actually got bullied before.

The common misconception is that there is a reason why "bullies pick on people". There is a reason why one bully picks on one person, but that reason may differ from why he picks on a different person, why another bully picks on the same person, or why a different bully picks on a different person. There is no universal reason. It's not always insecurities. Some people just want to watch to suffer. The only thing you can really do for a situation like that is either stay away from a person like that, or kick their ass. If kicking their ass doesn't stop it, I guess go to the whole avoiding thing. If that doesn't work, well shit, I guess you have a new hobby of fighting with a singular person.

I have been bullied in Primary, Secondary, College and Uni. Sucks really. I can't say it's made me a better person because it really hasn't. I am very nervous, I built myself up a lot last year and gained a lot of confidence, now I have gone to uni I am miserable and feeling nervous again.

Some teachers help, some do fuck all. The teachers got fed up with me because so many people bullied me, when someone was sorted out then someone else would charge in and start.

hmm yah sometimes it depends either they were bullied, they're just bored, looking for attention etc or just generally being a dick.

as mentioned before fighting isnt always the answer but a lot of the time it can "fix" the problem. my example, this guy kept annoying me etc for like 1 month nearly teasing me etc. then one day he did it and i hit him across the face with my school book (hardcover) then he started fighting with me, it got broken up etc we walked our seperate ways, then 10min later he came and apologised etc. and now we're friends.

that doesnt always work and when it doesnt, a lot of the time you'll end up in more trouble (somehow) but sometimes it's the only option.

If you like watching people suffer, I'm guessing you'd be insecure though. Of course it wouldn't be in all circumstances, but in most it would probably be that.

I got bullied when I was young, but it was by a girl, heh. Obviously there can be ways on how the bullying starts. Firstly, you either were picked on because you were picky, or if that person had problems of their own. For me, it was the second, cause she really just wanted to fit into a crowd of her type (Usually people who just didn't give a fuck). I haven't seen her in years, she left and went to another school, I believe.

And for those of you who thought the first bit I wrote was meant to be funny, it isn't. It just shows that even girls can be bullies, too.

I just believe as long as you stay strong, discipline yourself and keep mostly away from those types of people, then your good enough not to get bullied. I eventually avoided her until she left, and then I felt more strong about myself, that if someone did come in my way, I'd take a more mature approach. That's how I learnt it. Fighting is never the way to resolve problems, it only makes it worse.

Suffering really is bullying, but then again, if you can stand up to them, then there is no suffering, not in the outside, probably in the inside, but that can be overcome in time.

Well in school for the past few weeks I haven't really been bullied but there's this guy who hangs out with my group and keeps making fun me for no reason. Well actually it's everybody in the group.(Yes I'm 13. I go to a middle school.I'm in 8th grade.) A few times we all get a laugh but more than that it's just annoying. My friends already told me that they wanted to ditch him but I don't know what to do. So can anybody here help me before this becomes a real problem?

I was never bullied, I was quite tall in school and people didn't really pick a fight with me. Occasionally the higher year kids would say a few things, or nudge me in the corridor, but nothing that annoyed me really. That's probably why I'm so thick-skinned these days. The most annoying ones were the younger years. You couldn't really do anything to them, because if you did they'd run to a teacher and claim innocence.

I think it's the feeling of power, that you can't be hurt by the person you're picking on. Kind of like a domination thing. As Spaz said, watching someone get hurt, there are people who like that sort of thing. Most of the schools are fucked-up as it is.

In middle school and HS, I was really, really shy and didn't really talk to many people but I didn't get made fun of....had maybe one or two girls act like bitches but that was about it.

Now, I am far from being shy and I just generally don't give a fuck anymore (I just mean by this that I don't get embarrassed about anything, really) and I take care of myself a lot more so I get the dirty cut eye from other girls. In HS especially, I just didn't care about how I dressed. I was one of those girls who was normal weight but always thought she was fat so I wore baggy clothes, always had my hair in Chun Li buns.....if you saw a pic, you wouldn't even believe it, lol.

It's funny because I used to give girls cut eye back then out of jealousy and now I get it a lot. LULZ tables have turned, I feel proud to be the envy of other women.

Same experiences as YJ really, but with boys. I was the quiet shy kid at the start of high school. I didn't really have many friends and didnt talk very much until I got home, where I felt safe. I didn't really have a social life then either so I was pretty much sat in home all the time(this was around the time I joined here). It never resorted to physical violence which I am glad about. However, after the years went by, my confidence started to grow and I started talking and socialising a lot more within the school, and made a ton of new friends. The bullying stopped, and I was left to get on with my work, which I always wanted to do with no interference. That's why I love the college I'm at, its one of the best Colleges in Norfolk, and in the top 20 in the country. There is no losers there who just want to fuck around, and not get the best out of the facilities and the tutors who help you through everything.

Mmm... In my experience, I'd guess the "bullies" didn't see it from that perspective. I used to get "picked on" (Though I didn't even care. It was like they'd just say stuff at me and I'd laugh back...) but eventually I just decided that since they are indeed just people, I could manage to get on the other side of them. And I did. I simply stopped caring that much about stuff that didn't matter. I laughed along with it and they kinda became friends. And I guess what they're doing is actually pretty natural. Animals have the same hierarchy thing going and only by wanting to be on top, can you be. Not saying it's right, but hey... Being bullied is hard, bullying is easy. So it's obvious that people would rather do one than the other. Although I guess bullies come worse than what I've seen... I've never seen a bully beat up someone (aside from people who helped start the fight) or steal money. It's just the general name-calling. And watching as one who neither bullies or gets bullied anymore, I feel that although the bullies are wrong... There are things that bullied kids could do to stop it. Unfortunately, no one wants my help, lol. In fact, these bullied kids don't like talking to me even though I've never done anything to em in my life. I think they just don't like my non-seriousness. I'ma jokey person.

I used to be a bullied a lot but it only helped me in becoming a stronger person.

If anyone bullies me I just ignore it or slap them on the face. It doesn't really bother me now. Now rarely anyone bullies me. Mostly I ignore them which mostly works. I rarely beat anyone.

I now have a 25 year old girl harrassing me! Why me? She tried to throw me out of her car and then demanded money. She wont stop texting me. This girl is honestly crazy. So I need forum advice? How do I make sure this physco doesn't try and run me down in her car, she is in my class in uni.

In my school those who bully only do it in groups because they're obviously insecure, and the moment you're in a group they leave you alone.

In fact, sometimes when you're in a group and they're alone it's fun to get revenge and pick on them.

Doesn't that make you just as bad as them?

I was never really bullied, just got picked on a bit by the kids in my friendship group at the time. In the end, I got sick of it and hung out with some other friends who are now my best friends. Win for me!

I was NEVER really bullied till like there was a fight or something. Just small 'comments' from my friends. For me its like Raybob but the group I'm in sometimes makes fun of other people. To be honest, I get involved sometimes too but I cant help it everyones so stupid/retarted sometimes. It'll change when I'm in High School since everyone would be more mature. But some of the kids that made the small comments are in my group, but it doesn't bother me everyone knows that were joking around when we bug eachother. Sometimes they mean it but oh well. From my experiences, to get rid of a bully you just have to stand up. A lot of bullies can be nice and if you stand up they'll leave you alone because most of the time they're just trying to be popular. If that doesn't work, it's time to get your hands dirty.
