Gary Mckinnon is most likely going to be sent to the USA before Christmas. He is to be tried for hacking into many secret goverment websites because he wanted information "on the little green men". He suffers from Aspergers which is a form of autism. The main debate here is should he be sent to the USA to stand trial and face 60 years in prison or be tried in a British court. Outrage has occured because many British people have been extradited to USA to stand trial whenever America has demanded it but there have been many instances where the UK has demanded American citizens to be extradited to the UK but the USA has refused.

So what do you think?

He should be tried here, we can't let the USA always get what they want from us, like the Lockerbie Bomber case in August. He is a British Citizen who committed his crime on British soil but directed his crime to America. Even so, as a British citizen he should face British law, jury and penalties, albeit jail time.

It's very clear why the Americans want him to be extradited. If he was tried in his own country, that would set a very dangerous precedent for Chinese and Russian hackers. If Gary has a legal right to be tried in his own country, then the US will never get their hands on any foreign hackers ever. This never was about what Gary did, it's about what the commies are doing.

I think thats very true, I feel very sorry for him and do feel he should be tried over here. How do the USA think they are going to have a decent trial with him very scared, confused and thousands of way from home. Then again its easy for them, find him guilty and then just chuck him into prison for 60 years.

This explains why some people with Aspergers should have limits as to when and how will they stay on the internets. Some of them are able to avoid screwing up, but at least some were quite annoying and should be dealt with appropriately. We had a case of some recurring vandal, of which we call as MascotGuy, with that syndrome in Wikipedia, making strange or unwanted revisions in certain articles such as Eloise, Tintin and a bunch of kiddie-related media. Most of them mods were pissed off at his over 9000 sockpuppets, like "Up-and-Down Guy" "Smurf's Glowball" and other weird-sounding usernames. Dramatica even mocked at the guy's behaviour in a sadistic and satirical manner.

What? How is that terrorism? He didn't terrorize anyone. He didn't try to scare people into changing their beliefs or government.

He hacked US military computers to try and find evidence of UFOs and aliens. The fact that the computers were in another country doesn't make it terrorism.

Bear's point is that he is British, and he commited the crime whilst in Britain, so he should be tried in Britain according to British laws and receive British punishments.

Just because some of the targets were American does not mean he should be deported to the States and be tried under US laws in a US court and receive American punishments. He is a Briton - American law does not apply here (as much as many yanks would like to think it does).

The British goverment really do suck up to the USA, espically when Tony Blair was in power. He was in no way a terrorist, he didn't want to put American lives in danger or hurt anyone, he just wanted to find out about aliens. He is British and I do not see the gain in sending this man with an obvious mental disability to a prison thousands of miles away from home and spend his entire life in a federal prison. He needs to be tried over here so he can get a decent trial as how is meant to defend himself in a place he is so unfamilar with and scared. The secret websites should have been better protected as this has happened before.

It's in NO way terrorism, nobody was hurt in the USA. Terrorism is when someone or some people commit a deliberate act of punishment or death on a country, this guy is neither. The website clearly needs better protection, I thought the USA could provide that. The fact that the USA wants Gary McKinnon to be tried in America seriously disturbs me and the overuse of their power as a world superpower. The US thinks it can get what it wants from other countries. The hacker is a BRITISH citizen, living in BRITAIN but committed his crime on AMERICA whilst in BRITAIN so the USA should not get the guy taken over to the US. If the US were concerned about the security of their country then why doesn't it do more than take people away from other countries to do this. Their site clearly needs to have better protection.

...and will probably happen again, they don't really learn from their mistakes.
