Well why do you think there is age limits on games.

Gta is rated 18+ mature where I live.

So the parents should make sure about this.

If a child is 12 years old and plays a violent video games. then ya the child may have negative outcomes due to the game. But the child shouldn't even be playing it in the first place.

I rest my case.

yeah thats sorta the point im trying to prove, that people are quick to point the finger at the video game that is rated 17 or 18...even though the copycat behaviour is apperently seen in kids under that age....

so basically why should the game be blamed, it should be the kid that takes responsibility for their own actions, not blaming something that he/she shouldnt have been a part of

Can you see the results afterwards?

And about that test. I don't care what ESRB rating the game has. According to that, you wouldn't be able to play GTA: SA untill 18, and I think that most of GTA players are less than 18 years old.

I think of the violent games in a way to remove frustrations from everyday life, not to become violent.

Damn. I'm 13, yet after I play GTA I have no urges to go out and repeat the actions I just performed in the game. Grand Theft Auto is rate Mature (17+), yet my favorite violent games are:

Grand Theft Auto series

Half-Life/Counter-Strike series

Halo series

All of the above mentioned games depict gross violence. In all of those games, the blood gushes from your enemies and is splattered all over whatever is behind them.

If Jack Thompson wants to ban the sale of M-rated games to those under 17, then they'll be added to the list of things kids can't buy, including cigarettes, alcohol, and pornography. But then, do games cause lung cancer, alcoholism, or chronic masturbation?

I also get all A's in school, am involved in many extra-curricular activities, and have a large social life.

It's bullshit like this that just make debates harder & more prone to get side tracked. Keep the scarcasm off the thread please.

Hang on right there, that is in no way bullshit.

He is 13 (true)

He plays games (true)

He plays violent games (true)

Those games are rated higher than his age (true)

He doesn't go out and rape prosititues, kill cops or drive tanks off cliffs (true)

That IS the debate. In his sarcasm he is pointing out the idiocy of the single-minded claims that if you play a violent game you will become voilent.

I cite Bandura, Ross and Ross who observed that specific stylised aggressive actions were repeated by observers (children), however I must point out one thing. Most people over the age of 12 understand the difference between a video game and real life. Most people who play games regularly will understand that violence occurs in the game that does not occur in everyday life. Most people will be able to judge without being prompted that what happens in the game doesn't get repeated out of the game.

Kids in the playground may play at fighting each other with karate, but they don't set out to kick the other guys head off like they saw in mortal combat or something. Personally, I'm 16, and I've never gone out into the street, opened a car door, pulled the old lady out, driven off, ran over pedestrians, jumped out and shot at a cop with a rocket launcher. I've done it countless times ingame, and yet I know only to do it ingame. Yet by UK Law, I'm not old enough to be able to play the game. It is there to protect me from being harmed by these influences - I've never so much as thought of doing any of those things on that list, although there are a few people I would like to have beaten to death I'm not daft enough to attempt it, and neither is Chris.

Now you've just turned 21, which does allow you to play violent games, but that does not give you the right to slag people off just for expressing a very valid and on-topic point of view.

By the way, there is no need to make the topic title all capitals, it reduces people's expectations of your post, and decreases the apparent authenticity of your study, be careful now.

He is 13, I thought he was joking around.

Most be pretty smart.

Perhaps that makes him an exception rather then a rule.

I dunno but I do seriously think Violent Music Like Gangta Rap and Games can have bad influeances on Children.

But I've also noticed that perhaps violent youth are born that way so there just natuarally

prone to seek out things that are violent in nature.

And with the things the way they are now,

It's readily accessable for anyone seeking it.

They do put ESBR [Canadian] or other rating on them for games but there not enforced by law.

Something I noticed thu, when at Blockbuster Sometimes I see kids with there parents.

Checking out the games. And the kid will take it to there parent and they'll say.

"No you can't rent that it's rated for adults" Then the kid will get pissed off and say

well the other games are gay." The cool games are rated Mature".

I've seen this scenero a few times.

thankyou for your input, this actually helps my point alot because I am trying to show that peer-presure and other social aspects such as pareting have a far larger role in a kids life than videogames ever could..... basically it sounds like you've had a pretty supportive up-bringing and have not felt the need to follow the social groups like a sheep, therefore you are a good person and playing violent games isnt affecting you.....

I was once like you, I played violent games all the time and still do... im 22 now, and I havent killed anyone, and go out of my way to be friendly to people...

would you mid leaving me some form of contact details (email address or something) I think it would be interesting if I could get your point of view on the rest of my project,

thanks

thanks for your input, and I totally agree, and I will ask the same as I asked the 13yrd old, would you leave me an email address so that I can contact you for your input on the development of the project....

thanks

and about the capslock thing... I no it kinda makes it look a bit crappy but I figured if people were just skimming the forums and saw a random title of computer game violence then they'd prob think is was yet another media attempt at trying to say it was bad.... I dunno I just figured having it in caps made it stand out a bit more...plus I need all the results I can get!!! cheers

You're right there, what he's setting out to find is whether the kids are screwed up because of the violent games they play. Its my opinion that they learn their aggression from role models in their life, specifically same-sex role models (Bandura). Perhaps playing games are the way he releases that aggression, on peds rather than pupils.

You could argue that if it wasn't for his video games he would just go and shoot everyone, but he can do that in his virtual world easy enough. San Andreas is immersive enough to be believable after playing for a while, so exerting aggression ingame could well be a very worthwhile activity, just like a stress ball at work or something.

Any kind of violence don't make me be violent. I just take it so naturally... I mean if I play any GTA or other violent games then I just shoot someone's head off in the game and blood is all over the place and i just watch it and move on and start wasting another bullets... After that when i don't play with my computer anymore I don't even think about what i did in the game... It's hard for me to understand how can a game change children to be violent. I think it's so easy to take it as just a game... But there are children that go violent for this... Many of you know a game called Runescape. A child in Japan killed his friend because his friend killed him in the game... And in our country one guy was playing Counter Strike (That's what i heard in the news) took his dad's gun and shot few people nearby and then jumped down from his apartmen from 5th floor if i remember the news right... And I think the reason for that is that he lost in the game or got killed. Think about it in GTA. If you fail a long and a hard mission would you kill someone? No you wouldn't. I wouldn't. But the truth is that some kids still do. I'm 13 and i got computer 5 years ago. My brother works in a computer company and he knows much about computers. He installed me a game called Carmageddon 2. The game is very violent and when i first played that i was kind of shocked. In the first month I got used to computer violence and I played Carmageddon and Unreal Tournament all the time and i took it so naturally... I still do and always will... My point is that I and most of children take the violent games as a stressball as mentioned before but some get mad about it and go violent. And that should be stopped... But you can't do nothing about it... Or can we? I have no idea how to stop it...

I am sorry for this real long text but now i said all that i had in my mind...
