And i have the Toledo 4800 coming to me next week
-
On Ebay today. I won a x2 4800 Toledo, the fastest dual core compatible with my current mobo after a BIOS upgrade. I'm one of the few single cores that can upgrade to a dual in the same mobo with a BIOS update.
My final specs
ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe
x2 4800 Toledo (from single core 3500)
2 GB DDR1 memory
EVGA 9600 GT KO
450 w power supply
2 120 gb maxtor hard drives (7200 master, 5400 slave)
DVD-DL burner
Vista SP 1
1152x864 resolution
I don't care about maxing it, just as long as it'll look better than the consoles (aka only 33% traffic)
-
Sigh. I'm worried that I will not be able to run this game with high texture etc settings, high traffic density and normal resolution. They should make sure that recommended settings are real! According to the recommended settings, my rig is above the recommended system settings, well almost (GPU PNY 8800GT 512MB and 4GB of RAM. CPU is C2D E8400, recommended is QUAD). But most of the people are telling me that I will be able to run it with 1280x1024 and medium settings. So does QUAD really affects it so much? When your computer is the same what minimum requirements are, then it should mean that You are able to run it with low settings and low resolution. When Ur computer is better than minimum but does not succeed recommended, then It should mean you are able to play it with medium settings and medium resolution. But when it is above the recommended, then it should mean that you should be able to run it with almost everything high and high resolution. And my computer is better than recommended(besides QUAD CPU). So only because of the QUAD I will not be able to run this game with normal resolution and high settings? That's funny because when I was building my computer then I had to choose between Q6600 and E8400 and most of the reviews and articles told that E8400 is above the Q6600. But I guess GTA IV knows how to use 4 core's and that's why is it so. But still it frustrates me that just because of the 2 core CPU I will not be to play this game with max settings and good resolution.
The Intel Quad 2.4 ghz is the lowest processor on their side after 2 cores. The Phenom x3 2.1 ghz is AMD's lowest processor after 2 cores. A quad core isn't REALLY recommended, otherwise AMD would have had the x4 as recommended instead of an x3
-
The most telling clue that high clocked dual cores will likely max this game out is that the AMD recommended requirements is a tri core, not a quad core. If the recommended really was a quad, then Rockstar should've put Phenom x4 instead of x3 on the AMD side to match Intel's quad. Since Intel doesn't have a tri core, they're just choosing the weakest quad on their side at the time the requirements were finalized.
The minimum likewise is what's needed to run it at console quality.
And on that note, The truly final barebone update:
I will get the x2 5600 Brisbane as it is the highest clocked AMD at 65w, which is the same power as my single core 3500 is right now, but way better performance. There are AMD Quads with 65 w power consumption, but the clock speed is pathetic at under 2 ghz each core. They will have to am
-
My final setup for this game will be
The barebone
DYNAPOWER TITAN-C2914 case
Phenom 8450 (the recommended AMD CPU)
ASUS M2N SLI mobo
1 stick of 2 GB ddr2 800 ram (will upgrade it with a 2nd 2gb stick after i get it, but not immediately)
The complements
EVGA 9600 GT KO
RAIDMAX RX-450K 450W ATX12V Power Supply
LG 22X DVD DL Burner
Diamond 5.1 sound card
DLink wireless network card
2 Maxtor 120 GB IDE hard drives (7200 master, 5400 slave)
Vista 32 bit SP1

Chris so what should i get
a strong x2 dual core 5600-6000 which is not a recommended AMD CPU or the 8450 which meets the recommended GTA 4 requirements but has a weak clock speed. I will order my barebone on December 3. the day after i buy the game
-
It's probably because Intel doesn't have a triple-core processor that I know of and they didn't want to just make the recommended processor a very-high clocked dual-core so they went with a quad-core.
I am 2 weeks away from buying the barebone but it feels much closer now that i sold the PS3 version of the game. Because it's primarily a GTA 4 motivated upgrade which should i get
The X2 6000, or the Phenom 8450
1 keeps my barebone price under $200 and adds 600 mhz and 1 core to my overclocked 3500, the other is 100 mhz away from the exact clock speed at stock of my 3500 but there's 2 extra cores, not to mention that it's the recommended GTA 4 processor from AMD
-
I would like to know why the max requirements for the CPU are different. The Core 2 Quad is required by Intel and AMD's not the Phenom X4, but rather the Phenom X3.
-
My proposed barebone update.
As you already know i will move these components to a new barebone so i can run GTA 4 as best as i can without a quad core
RAIDMAX RX-450K 450W ATX12V Power Supply
LG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black IDE GH22LP20
eVGA GeForce 9600GT KO 512MB PCI Express 2.0 x16
Maxtor IDE 6Y120PO master hard drive
Maxtor IDE 4R120LO slave hard drive
I will add those to this barebone
# DYNAPOWER TITAN-C2914 case
# ASUS M2N-SLI mobo (with 2 IDE ports)
# ATHLON X2 5400 2.8G - BRISBANE (65W)
# CRUCIAL 2GB DDR2 800 ram (1 stick)
I already spent 135+ dollars on the new psu, new card and the dvd-dl in October. Once i add the barebone next month, the computer GTA4tification will cost me roughly 400 bucks in 2 months. (roughly 450 when i buy the game). In the end it won't be a quad core, but for that amount GTA 4 will run fine on it and my current PC game Warhead will be great on a mainstream-gamer mix as opposed to minimum-mainstream mix on my current setup
-
Developments involving my brothers means i will get a barebone next month. The only thing now is if it'll be on the 4th-5th or the 11th-12th.
Either way this means the 9600 GT i currently have now will be paired properly with a dual core CPU for this game as my mobo for the proposed barebone can't go tri or quad core. And since AMD home computers is all i've known, i'm going X2 baby
-
hmmm 180. i could get a betterone for 100 and run it on high...
That price was 9 months ago. I bought my card for $82 3 weeks ago

link to it plx?
I'll do 1 better, a review of it. When they compared it to the 7900, i was convinced it was the right card to swap my old 6800 GT with
-
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 () PASS
No, you'll need to upgrade that.
Get the card i have right now and GTA 4 will run well for you UG
-
EVGA 9600 GT KO
Get a 4850 instead and you might want to upgrade the processor a bit.
1. Most of the stuff i just bought when i thought GTA 4 wouldn't have a dual core as minimum. My video card is more than enough.
2. The x2 5200 will be a big step up for me compared to my current single core. I would upgrade higher but the mobo can't go Phenom. Plus i wanted multiple IDE connectors to keep my hard drives and that PCChips one has 4, 2 for my hard drives, and 1 for my DVD DL burner
-
Here is my proposed upgrade. To take the multicore plunge and play this upcoming game well. It's a barebone build as i have a lot of stuff i like on my current computer that i want to keep.
PCChips A33G
Athlon 64 X2 5200
SuperTalent 2 GB DDR2 800 ram
Cooler Master Hyper TX fan
SuperTalent Pow MAX black mid tower ATX case
The stuff i will keep to complement the barebone are
EVGA 9600 GT KO
RAIDMAX RX-450K 450W ATX12V Power Supply
LG 22X DVD DL Burner
2 existing Maxtor 120 GB hard drives
Diamond 5.1 sound card
DLink wireless network card
All the brand names i have a good history with
Feedback is appreciated.
-
I will try to play the game on my system as is.
However, i'm also looking at http://www.magicmicro.com/ a custom build barebone site.
I have a lot of stuff i like on my computer and i want to keep as much as i can but improve my CPU for this game/take the multicore plunge in general. If the game's not good enough on my current one. I will not wait until 2010-11 when it's probably time my bro upgrades his current Quad Core and i inherit it
-
This is my single core rig
ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe
Athlon 64 3500 Oced to 2376 via the BIOS 8% AI overclock
Likewise the 2 GB DDR dual channelmemory is OCed to 432 mhz
The EVGA 9600 GT KO is overclocked to SSC speed just before running a game
I play on 1152x864 resolution on my 19 inch 4:3 LCD
Vista Ultimate 2007 version
In Warhead in DX 9 mode i'm able to set textures, shades, water and sound quality to mainstream while the rest is minimum and motion blur off and it looks and plays good enough for me.
Will GTA 4 get that same custimization in game so i can do the same thing.
-
A8N SLI Deluxe
Athlon 64 3500 oced
9600 GT KO
2 GB ram
Vista 2007
DVD DL drive
can still upgrade to dual core but that's getting rare
-
Guys let's get back on topic.
Official specs now out, first post has been updated. Anyone still not sure then feel free to post again, someone knowledgeable will help you out and let you know what to do, if anything.
Oh boy, i thought the minimum would be Crysis, but the max Crysis is minimum GTA 4
-
Here's the breakdown of the 2007-08 kickass games test in GTA4 preparation after mu upgrades
Crysis cripples me in battle scenes with single digit FPS even at lowest settings. The 43 and 23 from before were in the beginning with no enemies
Warhead is better optimized as the big explosive scenes the lowest is in the teens with ultra config settings specifically for 9600 GT
Hellgate is next and since dual core is not required, it should run very smooth.
* OS: Windows XP with SP2 or Windows Vista
* Processor: 1 .8GHz or faster (2.4GHz for Vista)
* RAM: 1GB or more (2GB for Vista)
* Video: DirectX 9.0c/10 compatible device w/ 128MB RAM or better and Pixel Shader 2.0 support; requires NVIDIA GeForce 6200/ATI Radeon 9000 chipset or greater
* Audio: DirectX 9.0c compatible device
* Disc drive: 8x DVD or faster
* Hard drive: 6 GB or more free space
* Input: Keyboard and mouse
* Internet: Connection required for multiplayer
It's a better game to compare requirements than Bully. I hope GTA 4 doesn't require dual core
-
How do you guys know this about consoles. What was the first multi core gaming console? I remember the first next gens (Cube, XBOX 1, PS2) were single cores
-
The best case scenario for GTA 4 requirements is that dual core is not recommended
The consoles don't have dual core processors, so the PC recommended for GTA 4 shouldn't be dual core either
As a single core user, it's the only bottleneck for me
-
now, i have updated my rig, so does anyone think i can pull of medium now?
Windows XP Professional SP2
Windows Vista Ultimate SP1
Intel Pentium 4 HT 2.80GHz 800FSB 512k
1024MB DDR PC3200 Crucial Dual Channel
XFX GeForce 8600GT 512mb PCI-e 16x
SoundMax Digital Audio
120GB 7200RPM HDD
i can now run UT3 maxxed, and that new game PURE maxxed. i am having much more confidence in how well my system will stand up to GTA IV now!
I have a better chance of running GTA 4 at your settings than you do because of 3 things
1. I have the better single core head to head.
2. I have double the memory at 2 gigs dual channel
3. the 8600 GT is barely faster than the 6800 GT my old card. Mines is the 9600 GT
