  1. Finally, someone with a brain.......Peace to you sir!...

Just a little comment, i :worship: to Rockstar for there excellent work......

We all do man, that's what we all have in common, they've not steered me wrong yet, so I have complete & unyeilding faith in anything that they produce. I think that as long as R* try to push the envelope & break ground in ways that no other developers had conceived, the graphics are going to suffer. Throughout the history of video games you could probably count on one hand the number of games that have managed to both revolutionise gaming & provide eye poppingly realistic graphics.

  2. Dude (-THE-DEALER-) you are getting far too worked up over what is essentially an unreleased video game. You're acting like it's life or death & flying off the handle at perfectly reasonable people, seriously it's reminiscent of the comic store guy from The Simpsons.

Now seeing as somewhere in that thinly veiled rant, you articulated some opinions about the the game I'm going to give some views of my own on the points that you raised.

I get what you are saying about the duration of the developement period, the standards which have been set for graphics on next gen consoles & on some levels I would say that you have a point. After hearing about the PS3's capabilities, I pretty much took it to mean photo-realistic graphics from here on out...This is obviously not the case with GTA IV.

In the game's defence however, I would say that the graphics have come on in leaps & bounds, adding some much needed realism to the title. The thing that you have to remember is that with some other games, the graphics can make or break them, but with GTA it is the tip of the iceberg, the scale of which we can not fully appreciate until we have experienced the game for ourselves.

R* are pioneers, they are experimenting with all kinds of new features & levels of detail, so I can forgive them if the finished article doesn't have the same mind blowing visuals of the games that it later inspires.

  3. Now people dont have a go at me but.. dont you think the trees look rubbish! i know its not that important but i dont want to drive down a road admiring all the wonderfull graphics and then i see a blurred up tree ruining it all.

I have to admitt I had noticed the trees, in all the screens that I have seen, they are the one thing bringing them down, I guess that will be something to look forward to in GTA V, realistic trees that sway in the wind, that can be climbed & will drop leaves (yes I'm hinting at the inclusion of seasons).

Back to the screens though, the sports cars look awesome, I can't wait to driver the Infernus/Lambo. The ones showing the boat race & helicopter battle look really crisp, doesn't look like draw distance will be an issue.

  4. If you read it, it is talking about the graphics in multi-player. The graphics have to be lowered in multi-player to avoid lagging accross the network otherwise it would take away from the game.

This is a crucial point, because the graphical requirements will be different for single player & multiplayer modes. Of course when you are playing by yourself you will b ecomstantly aware of the world around you, however in a hectic multiplayer death match your focus will be on your immediate surroundings & not the buildings on the horizon.

I think R* are doing the right thing by prioritising the elements of the game which people will notice the most. If your honest you know you would be more pissed off by lag or glitchy gameplay, than a slightly hazy view of the cityscape.

  5. I'm pleased with this change, I did feel that time was passing far too quickly in previous games. I reckon that the longer nights & days might also be handy for missions where stealth & the cover of darkness are required or for simply giving you longer to admire the sexy new sunsets.

  6. I think that the rating system is fine the way it is, as games will always be reviewed in the context of the period in which they are released. So the score will be relative to other games launched around the same time. Take GTA III for example, if it was rated as a brand new game today, it wouldn't get anything above a 5, but for it's time it was ground breaking & deserved every point it got.

  7. That muscle car looks awesome, I can't wait to see how it handles.

It sounds as if a lot of thought has gone into the multiplayer modes, they almost seem like complete missions in themselves. The cops & robbers style modes seem to have a lot of depth & freedom to them, I love the idea of using a gunship to cover/support your team mates on the ground, while they're on the move. I think this side of the game is going to have an incredible effect on the re-playabilty factor of this game.

  8. You might not know this but the percentage of Gameplay that was in GTA IV Trailer 'Everyones a Rat' is actually 70%

    Source: N4G

    Excellent news.

I had a feeling that R* might subtly blend the gameplay & cutscenes in the trailers. In past titles I never thought that the cuscene graphics exceeded the quality of used for gameplay. When you factor in the capabilities of next gen consoles, I would expect the line to be blurred even further.

  9. Test the physics? Explore the map? Drive a fancy car? I'm not sure what I'll be getting up to exactly, what I do know however is that I will need a bib for all the dribbling I will be doing. Whatever I get up to I'm pretty sure it won't be long before I'm having a dust up with the 5-0, which is more than likely going to esculate into a city wide manhunt...I really can't wait.

  10. As I said in another thread I was looking forward to the challenge of getaways without the help of pay & sprays, but a I do think that R* would need to implement some other methods for losing heat in order to compensate. By that I mean, that the cops won't send an endless stream of cars to your exact location, instead they will have to take time to get to you and will have to drive well to keep up. I would also like things like switching vehicles & hiding out of site to help reduce stars too.

  11. Driving on the right really isn't that hard to adjust to, most of the time I make use of both lanes in orfer to dodge traffic & get from A to B as quickly as possible. That may be a little harder in IV as the density of vehicles will be greater, but we shall see.

  12. I think that the whole "line of sight" business & the realistic spawning of cops, will all help to make getaway driving more rewarding for skilled wheelmen. If we are all honest, pay n sprays were a lazy way to evade capture & personaly I thought that they brought an unsatisfyingly abrubt end to some of my more thrilling chases.

This move is a sign that GTA is maturing & it should be a great way to inject both fun & realism into the driving side of the game.

  13. That shotgun fire looks beautiful, the spread is much better than in past games & the richochete effects look great. Hopefully the injuries inflicted will be just as accurate.

P.S. Is it just me or does any one else hope that with a well aimed shot you can cause that pile of pipes to come loose & fall on to somebody?

  14. Like some others have said graphics arn't the be all & end all of great video games, what is most important is the quality of gameplay & the ability to have fun. Remember graphics are merely the icing on the cake, That said, if you have read any of the reviews by mags & websites who have actually played demos, you will have no doubt heard them mention the stunning new graphics.

If your still not convinced, the ultimate test will be to go back to SA after a couple of weeks of playing GTAIV & I can pretty much gaurantee that the graphics in SA will suck balls in comparison.

  15. If they are going for realism, the Police should use the helicopter to track you when their cars can't keep up (ala worlds most dangerous police chases). In previous titles I found it was just as easy to outrun the helicopter as it was the cars.

Another nice touch of realism would be if the Police tried to be mindfull of collateral damage & sometimes backing off to avoid creating high risk situations that could endanger civilian peds.

  16. No, I defenitly don't think that that is snow. It looks like the sun is is reflecting of of the pavement. I think that it was said that there would be no snow , but I might be wrong.

It's not snow, it's just that road surfaces are supposed to be more detailed, with more imperfections & rough patches, the light areas are just part of the texturing.

  17. I agree that tanks should flatten cars. I hate the instantaneous explosions on contact, I think it will be much more satisfying to roll over a civilian vehicle leaving a flattened heap in your wake.

Regarding the base, I think there should be a base as R* have said that the Police will respond realisticly as if responding from a staion. So if the army are to spawn from somewhere there would need to be a base for them to come from.
