  1. It's been a long time coming. In fact, it's been almost a whole decade since we had a new GTA game to talk about! But yesterday, Rockstar Games finally confirmed that development of the next instalment of the Grand Theft Auto series is "well underway".

I think most - perhaps all - fans of the franchise suspected this to be the case, but until now it was pure wishful thinking. The confirmation came as part of the latest community update posted on the Rockstar Newswire, and this following tidbit of information has already seen fans buzzing on social media with speculation.

    gtaviannouncement.png

    See also: Twitter thread

Attention has been cast on that final sentence in particular:

    Quote

[we] cannot wait to step into the future with you!

Of course, this could just be a mere figure of speech, but many fans are already speculating that this could point to a futuristic setting. Indeed, we've already seen Rockstar Games explore the 80s, 90s, and modern day era with the releases from GTA III through to GTA V, so a near future setting would provide something fresh for the developers to work with, and give even more creative freedom surrounding the gameplay and storytelling. That being said, it's important to note that this is simply speculation for now, Rockstar Games as a company is famous for remaining tight-lipped regarding information on upcoming titles. Speaking of which, forget the setting or location, we don't even have the title yet. We're tentatively referring to it as GTA VI for now.

Does this mean TGTAP is coming back?

Good question! It's been over 5 years since we last posted any news on the website. GTA Online of course became Rockstar's main focus throughout this time, and the unstoppable rise of social media, and Rockstar's own Newswire blog, rendered most of the smaller fansites like ours somewhat redundant. The drastic drop in traffic, coupled with real life getting in the way, has meant that fansites like TGTAP - and numerous others - have been neglected. I won't deny that this announcement has certainly piqued my interest once again, though, so no promises but all I can say is... we'll see.

I don't know what your plans are for the server but I have now joined. I'm generally around on Discord most of the time for other reasons, can't promise I'll be overly talkative there but I'll try and check it relatively frequently. Forums are a mostly dead format these days as we know, so Discord is infinitely easier for everyone to chat in.

Regarding spreading word of the Discord perhaps once it's properly up and running we'll post the link on the main page of the website. Perhaps on our social media channels too which themselves are also inactive; it's unlikely any of this will help much. Also, doing this may attract a ton of randoms rather than all the old-school members of the forums... so yeah, we'll think about what to do.

In the meantime, feel free to share the link with any members you talk with outside of TGTAP.

I hope the forum stays up

As I've said numerous times in the past I have no intention of ever taking the site down. The forums have had new registrations disabled for a while now (although I believe signups via Facebook are still possible) for a couple of reasons; 1. to reduce botspam and 2. because the forums are essentially dead we're unlikely to get many new people around here for any legitimate reasons.

Shame this whole area seems to be totally clogged with spambot posts nowadays though

That's actually very recent, like the last 2 weeks or so. I don't know... we're on the latest version of IPB, we're using their anti-spam service, but it's useless, the bots still get through. Might disable registrations for a while, seems to be the only way to prevent them getting through.

I had to check your username history and profile but yeah I remember. There are plenty of users I didn't talk to much one to one but at least recognise their usernames if they were frequent posters. I noticed a comment on my profile back in 2010 saying that you had added me on PSN. I rarely play PS3/PS4 these days but curious what your username there is? I'm guessing we never played anything together?

  5. Well I guess even if just one person likes to come back to the forums from time to time it's reason enough to leave them online for now. :)

I suspect at some point we'll disable new registrations, maybe even disable posting. But I'll always try to keep an archive of the forums here so all the old topics and posts won't be lost.

While I've said in the past I'd try to keep TGTAP online for as long as I'm alive, I have occasionally wondered about the long term future, like really long term, and not just about this website but any in a similar position. I mean, can you imagine coming back here in another 10 years? 20 years? What about 50 years? Some of us probably won't even be alive at that point. The internet could and probably will look very different then. Interest in GTA could be dead too and at some point it may not be worth keeping the website online any more.

A number of huge GTA fansites have already closed for good in the past couple of years, GTAGaming and GTAWarehouse are two big names no longer operating. GTAGaming was arguably the next biggest site after GTANet, so if they had to shutdown already the future doesn't look too bright for the rest of. I don't think TGTAP will be the next one though, but sadly it's not a favourable trend we're seeing with videogame fansites these days.

P.S. if anyone is reading this in the future and needs to contact me for any reason and is unable to do so here, I'm not particularly difficult to find elsewhere on the Internet. I don't publicly give out my email address but my personal website (https://chrisphillips.uk/) links to places where I can be found.

  6. I don't do anything with the website any more but don't wish to take it down or anything, so it will remain online for the foreseeable future.

As for the forums, I've thought about turning them offline as it's clear to see there is barely any activity whatsoever these days. In fact I think aside from GTAForums, pretty much every fansite forum is dead now. Everyone moved to social media. But as with the website, I will probably leave them open for the time being, if any members want to reconnect with one another then they can do so.

Out of curiosity, what brought you back here Dmac?

  7. Yeah sorry about this I'm really busy at the moment. Please know that the extent of the "hack" or "malware" was the same as before - simply a piece of javascript which redirects users to random websites, not even for phishing usually, just to get them pageviews and ad revenue it seems. It was removed within 24 hours of Google notifying us.

We'd actually waited this long to make sure it didn't come back, and in this time we have upgraded both PHP and the IPS forum software itself to the latest and most secure, stable versions. We believe all these factors should permanently fix the problem now. It seems like it was a flaw in IPS 3.x that allowed the malicious content through in the first place.

Google has now been notified of its removal so hopefully the warnings will disappear shortly.

Today marks the release of Bikers, a big new free DLC for GTA Online. Lots of new content in this one including Motorcycle Clubs, Clubhouses, Businesses, 13 new vehicles, 5 new weapons, loads of new clothes and tats, and a new adversary mode. Probably best to let Rockstar go into detail about all that so check out the Newswire article for more info on that. Trailer below.

Good news for those of you who were fans of The Lost and Damned; the next free DLC update for GTA Online will be in the form of biker gangs. Rockstar haven't given an exact release date for this yet (other than Coming Soon™), here's what they have to say about it:

    Quote

Bikers, the next big addition to GTA Online, brings the eagerly-anticipated ability to form and lead your very own Motorcycle Club for up to 8 players. Bikers will introduce new roles to play from fresh Prospects to club Presidents with a massive slate of new competitive and co-op gameplay, along with a range of new motorcycles, properties that include MC Clubhouses with a special custom Biker mechanic, and venues for seedy business ventures.

Beyond a range of opportunities to climb the ranks within a gang and build lucrative businesses as a formidable MC, Bikers also includes a selection of appropriately-themed new modes for bikers of all kinds, along with new weapons, styles, tattoos and features to make this a huge addition to the world of GTA Online.

And while loyal MCs will fight to expand their foothold alongside black-collar CEOs and Organizations, there’s always another opportunity to make your mark just around the corner. Keep an eye out for high-level, high-risk vehicle based business ventures to spring up across Los Santos and Blaine County soon.

We'll keep you updated as to when we'll be seeing this released in game.

The latest free DLC for GTA Online is out now in the shape of Cunning Stunts. Good news for everyone who likes to perform stunning... stunts in the game.

    Quote

Cunning Stunts takes GTA Online racing to epic new heights with a series of 16 brand-new, high-octane Stunt Races that feature everything from winding tubular tracks amongst Los Santos’ tallest skyscrapers to technical courses through canyons, over water and across the desert. Stunt Races utilize ramps, loops, wall rides, tubes, raised tracks and dynamic objects for a radically new take on GTA Online racing.

Of course there's also the usual addition of brand new cars, clothing, accessories and whatnot. Unfortunately there's no way to create your own stunt races yet, though Rockstar have pointed out that this will be forthcoming on the 2nd of August, as well as more races and vehicles.

If you want to win yourself some GTAV merch then Rockstar also have a sweepstakes open right now you can enter. If not, you could watch the trailer below, or you could read the full details on this update, or if that's not your thing there's always the full detailed patch notes.

So yeah we're still alive... I know it's been a while since we last posted but no, we're not dead. Anyway, GTA Online is still going strong and Rockstar continue to provide free DLC updates for it. Next up is an update called Further Adventures in Finance and Felony. Today they released a trailer showcasing some of the new content. Check that out below. The DLC will hit your systems on the 7th June, and here's what Rockstar have to say about it.

    Quote

Ever since you first stepped off that flight to Los Santos, it’s been all about rising up the criminal ranks, accruing wealth in your Maze Bank account, building a reputation, and taking no mess along the way…

Now, realize your goal to become the ultimate kingpin of Los Santos and Blaine County.

Build an empire as a CEO. Traffic illicit cargo and contraband. Disrupt rival supply chains. Acquire extravagant new vehicles. Open prestigious new offices. Hire an executive assistant.
And run the town, one hostile takeover at a time.

  12. Posting about GTA: Liberty City Stories in 2015 - 10 years after the game was first released - is strange. Though not entirely unexpected given recent trends. Releasing mobile versions of past GTA titles soon after their 10th anniversary has become somewhat of a tradition for Rockstar Games, and this year is no exception, with the return of handheld favourite Liberty City Stories - first released in 2005 for Sony PSP, and later in 2006 for the PS2.

GTA Liberty City Stories has a brief exclusivity period on iOS (Apple prefer to feature apps that are exclusive to iOS) so you can download the game right now for your iPhone or iPad, while Android and Amazon users will need to wait, we're not sure how long because Rockstar have only said it's coming soon™. Below is the trailer and blurb for the game. Enjoy this blast from the not so distant past. Also if you currently play GTA Online, you can get a free in-game t-shirt by playing LCS, so do read everything below for instructions on how to unlock that.

In Liberty City Stories, former trusted wise guy for the Leone crime family, Toni Cipriani returns home after spending time in hiding for killing a made man. Now, the streets of Liberty City are in turmoil, as warring families vie for control and the town begins to self-destruct under waves of political corruption, organized crime, drug trafficking and union strikes. Deranged hit men, morally depraved tycoons, cynical politicians and even his own mother stand in the way as Toni tries to bring the city under Leone family control.

Originally designed with mobile gameplay in mind, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories returns with enhancements including real time lighting and shadows, upgraded textures and art, greater draw distance, performance enhancements for touch-based gaming including updated analog steering and rebalanced targeting, cross-platform cloud saves via Social Club, support for Apple’s 3D touch and more.

In addition to cross-platform cloud saves, if you download Liberty City Stories and then sign in to Social Club within the app, you'll unlock the bonus I HEART LC t-shirt with the same account used in Grand Theft Auto Online for PlayStation 4, Xbox One or PC. Once you've signed in, the shirt will be available for free at any GTA Online clothing store (please allow up to 24 hours for the I HEART LC Shirt to be available in GTA Online).
Watch today's trailer above to catch a glimpse of Liberty City Stories in action, and for more details on the game visit rockstargames.com/libertycitystories.

Earlier today Rockstar released the latest free DLC for GTA Online - Executives and Other Criminal. If you're rich, you're in for a treat as a ton of cool stuff has been added to the game for you to blow your load of money on, including a super yacht. Watch the trailer below to see what you'll be able to get up to now.

    Quote

Executives and Other Criminals brings new ways to make crime pay in GTA Online for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC - offering players the chance to run their own criminal organizations, hire and fire other players, and face off against rival operations across Freemode. Los Santos living also gets a premium upgrade with the introduction of Stilt Houses for sale in the Vinewood Hills, new Eclipse Penthouse Apartments with customizable interior styles and the debut of the upgradable and fully staffed Super Yachts now for sale on Docktease. The update also comes with new armored vehicles, two new weapons and much more.

Good news everyone! Next week will see the release of yet another FREE DLC for GTA Online, this one being all about lowriders, car customisation, and new vehicles and weapons.

Compared to some previous DLC for the game, this one is packing a lot more content that has been widely requested by players, but it will be the first DLC unavailable to those still playing on PS3 or Xbox 360 consoles. Rockstar previously warned about this on the Newswire, explaining that "future content updates such as this are only possible on the newer and more powerful systems. As there isn’t enough memory available to add to the game on the older systems, we cannot make any more meaningful content updates without putting the entire game at risk."

Read on below for full details of what's coming in this feature-filled DLC.

    Quote

With next week’s release of GTA Online: Lowriders for PS4, Xbox One and PC – lovers of cars and customization all across Los Santos and Blaine County will have a suite of brand new options and a new place to go get them. Introducing Benny’s Original Motor Works, a new customs shop in downtown Strawberry that offers a huge range of lowrider customizations that can turn your classic junker into a high-spec, tricked-out king of the streets.

Visit Benny’s website via the shortcut on your in-game phone to choose from a half-dozen select customizable vehicles – then bring them down to the man himself for an upgrade that unlocks new custom lowrider mods. Deck out your engine block with covers and air filters, coat your interiors with velour, leather and patterns, choose custom colors and designs for your dials, or add a new steering wheel and custom shift levers. Give your ride lift with hydraulics - the more powerful the pumps, the higher you can bounce. And boost your stereo’s performance with new speakers and subs in the back.

    actual_1444922428.jpg

Then, meet up with friends and fellow car enthusiasts to show off your new rides – use the Player Interaction Menu while inside or outside the car to open up the vehicle doors, hood and trunk, switch on the engine to flash your neons and bump your favorite radio station for all to admire. Crew car shows are about to go next level.

And keep an eye out for calls and texts from Lamar – he’s making moves of his own through a series of new missions and he’s going to need your help. You’ll want to hit up your trusted allies, wheelmen, and sharpshooters for backup too, as things are going to get hectic.

    actual_1444922440.jpg

Get stocked with the fully automatic Machine Pistol or Machete from Ammu-Nation. The upwardly mobile can also expand their garage space and fleet of vehicles with the addition of the oft-requested fourth purchasable property. There’s also tons of new clothing, hair and accessory options as well as 3 new Adversary Modes and more.

GTA Online: Lowriders arrives for PS4, Xbox One and PC as an automatic update on Tuesday, October 20th. See more screens from next week’s update below.

Benny’s garage in the Strawberry neighborhood of South Los Santos is the place to go for Lowrider customization.

  15. Short answer: no.

Long answer: Well it's a modified port of the PC version, so it does have the PC cheat codes in it. The problem is you have no way to actually enter them. On standard Android devices you may be able to use keyboard apps such as GameKeyboard + to enter them, but I'm not sure there's anything like this available for Amazon devices.

Part Two of Rockstar's Ill-Gotten Gains update for GTA Online will be arriving next week on the 8th July for all platforms. In addition, the previously PC-exclusive radio station 'The Lab' will become available on all four consoles. You can check out the Newswire article for screens and details of some of the new things that are coming, including the return of a personal favourite of mine, the Firework Rocket Launcher.

To summarise, new content will include 4 new cars, a new motorbike and a new boat, plus 2 new weapons and bunch of new clothes and accessories.

    • Cars: Coil Brawler, Invetero Coquette BlackFin, Progen T20, Vapid Chino
    • Motorcycles: Dinka Vindicator
    • Boats: Lampadati Toro
    • Weapons: Knuckledusters, Marksman Pistol

The first content update for GTA Online post-PC release is due out next week, on the theme of ill-gotten gains. The update will bring new vehicles, weapons, clothes and vehicle wraps - so you can show everyone your incredible taste - or lack thereof.

    Quote

Due to a surge in high-end crime across southern San Andreas, demand for luxury goods and services is at an all-time high. Upscale merchants of all kinds are scrambling to fill their inventories to serve the newly wealthy. The first of two major deliveries this summer will be hitting the showrooms of luxury car dealerships, the shelves of top arms suppliers and other prestigious retailers in June. Here are a few new screenshots featuring some of the new rides and accessories coming to GTA Online next week – and be on the lookout for another big shipment coming this summer.

Highlights of part 1 of the summer updates include:

    • Cars: Enus Windsor, Albany Virgo, Benefactor Stirling GT, Pegassi Osiris - the latter two both featuring gull-wing doors.
    • Aircraft: solid gold Buckingham Swift Deluxe, solid gold Buckingham Luxor Deluxe.
    • Weapons: Combat PDW.
    • Clothing/Accessories: "hundreds" of new items, in addition to 8 vehicle wraps.

You can see some new HD screenshots of some of these new things over on the Newswire.

  18. Rockstar have just posted up a new Asked & Answered article in which they answer some pressing fan questions to do with some very hot topics right now. There's also one new screenshot that's been released teasing a forthcoming GTA Online update. Below that is a short summary of each of the big questions and Rockstar's answer to each. One thing of note is the absence of anything about the single player DLC that was announced last year, this is likely to have been pushed back a bit because of the recent PC release.

    asked_05072015_news.jpg

    GTA Online Updates

Rockstar say Heists are not the kind of things they can just go ahead and keep adding to the game, they're a "huge undertaking". However, there are some new updates coming to Online which will include some "very cool new toys" to spend your cash on - see the new screenshot above for a glimpse of what's to come.

On a related note, it was also asked if the last gen consoles (PS3 / 360) would be seeing future updates. Rockstar acknowledge that at some point they'll hit a technical limit and simply won't be able to add any more, but they're doing their best to optimise the game in every way they can, and are currently working on the next big update.

Rockstar Editor on PS4 / Xbox One

A lot of people have been asking for Rockstar Editor to come to consoles. It's a powerful tool best suited to PCs, but Rockstar say they are working on a version specially tailored to the less powerful PS4 and Xbox One versions of GTAV, hoping to release it in the summer (read: whenever it's actually ready).

    The Lab radio station

Another PC exclusive feature was new radio station The Lab, fans have been asking if that will be coming to consoles too. Yes, it will. Rockstar plan to add it to all four consoles, including the last gen ones, in a forthcoming update.

    Self Radio on consoles

The PC version of GTAV allows players to curate their own radio station from MP3 files on their computer. Console players want this functionality too, but unfortunately, according to Rockstar, it is not technically possible on consoles at the moment as it requires more than they allow.

Will I get banned for modding GTAV PC?

Nope. Not in single player. But if you use mods in GTA Online that might give you an advantage over others then yeah, you're probably gonna get banned.

    Quote

We have always appreciated the creative efforts of the PC modding community and we still fondly remember the awesome zombie invasion mod and original GTA map mod for GTAIV PC among many other classics. To be clear, the modding policy in our license has not changed and is the same as for GTAIV.  Recent updates to GTAV PC had an unintended effect of making unplayable certain single player modifications. This was not intentional, no one has been banned for using single player modifications, and you should not worry about being banned or being relegated to the cheater pool just for using single player PC mods. Our primary focus is on protecting GTA Online against modifications that could give players an unfair advantage, disrupt gameplay, or cause griefing. It also bears mentioning that because game mods are by definition unauthorized, they may be broken by technical updates, cause instability, or affect your game in other unforeseen ways.

Joystick / Steering wheel support for GTAV PC?

They make no promises, but Rockstar say they are currently investigating what additional support they might be able to add.

    GTA V for Mac?

Nope. But you can of course install Windows 7 / 8.1 through Boot Camp and play it that way. An article on R* Support has been added with instructions for those who don't know how to do this.

Cracking down on money/RP/vehicle dupe glitchers on YouTube

Rockstar obviously say they don't support or condone people doing this to get an unfair advantage, and have updated their copyright policy to reflect this, and these sorts of videos will be getting flagged for takedown now. Rockstar continue to thank players for reporting bugs, glitches, cheaters etc. via the support site.

Cracking down on Godmode/invisibility/unlimited ammo in GTA Online

Rockstar are doing all they can and are regularly rolling out hot fixes and patches for things like this, they believe they are making significant progress towards combatting most of it.

And that about sums it all up. If you want to read all the questions and answers in full, head over to the Newswire article.

Finally! The day has come. Grand Theft Auto V is now available on all platforms. The PC version officially unlocked at midnight (UK time), and hundreds of thousands of gamers were already playing on Steam within hours. The PC version offers many enhancements and new features over the console versions, and Rockstar have today summed that up in a nice overview.

    The highlights:

    • Huge range of graphics customisation options
    • Play up to 4K resolution at 60fps
    • Dual and triple monitor support, controller support, and 3D compatibility
    • GTA Online available from day 1 including all previously released free DLCs and the Heists update
    • Rockstar Editor
    • Soundtrack includes new radio station, The Lab FM, as well as the ability to create your own completely custom radio station

Check Rockstar's summary for more info, and remember if you're having any technical issues with the game you should use Rockstar's Support site.

As always you have a multitude of channels from which to discuss the game, including our own forums. Be sure to let us know your early impressions of the game and how it's performing for you.

  20. We're mere hours away from the launch of long awaited launch of Grand Theft Auto V for the PC, but Rockstar has one more thing to show off before we get to play, and that is the Rockstar Editor. Remember the video editing tools in GTA IV? Forget them. Rockstar has massively improved upon that and has basically developed a powerful in-game video editing tool, best explained in the video below.

Watch today’s video “An Introduction to the Rockstar Editor” for an overview of just some of the features of this powerful video creation tool including special camera modes, filters, depth of field and audio customization options - as well as the unique Director Mode feature that allows you to stage creative moviemaking sequences from a cast of characters ranging from familiar faces from Story Mode, to pedestrians and even animals. You’ll be able to upload your finished masterpiece to YouTube and to the Rockstar Games Social Club to share with friends.
