  1. Hi, my wife is on her way home with my copy of gtaiv, but after reading this thread I am worried I might not be able to run the game.

    AMD 4400+ X2

    2 gigs RAM

    7800gtx 512

    Raptor HD

Mostly I am worried about the video card, since it is a 7 series, will the game even be allowed to load? I have no doubt the card can handle the game, albeit at lower settings. I run Crysis at mostly high settings at a good framerate.

Once I open the box I'm stuck with the game and can't exchange it, so if it won't even load I don't want to bother.

    Thanks

I'm afraid it will run quite badly on your system. Both your CPU and GPU should be upgraded to play the game.

  2. You don't believe in abortions?

Dude, there's nothing to believe about it. It's completely real and not a myth. Whether you agree with it or not is another matter but if you're going to make a topic about it, how about presenting a more informed argument rather than just trying to use words that you have no idea of the meaning of.

I think abortions are very wrong, yeah.

And this topic was not meant to be about gays, abortions, etc.

It was meant to be about Obama and our government.

And now the whole thing is spammed because I said a couple of irrelevant things I probably shouldn't have.

  3. I guess this is a fair poll about personal preferences. However, Nvidia and ATI both make a good job producing good GPUs. Sometimes one beats the other and competition just goes on. This just boils down to if you like their logo or not IMO.

CPU i have to admit Intel is taking lead by quite some.

EDIT: Wrong forum and add a neutral vote.

  4. Case: Antec Three Hundred (great brand and a great case for the money, pretty cheap as well)

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 or Q6600 (Q6600 is fine but the C2D should perform better because it uses 45nm technology, not 65nm)

Mobo: ASUS P5Q or P5Q Pro (good brand, should work fine)

RAM: Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400 (DDR2 800 is probably the best bang for buck speed you can get for mem right now, DDR3 isn't worth it right now unless you're on an i7)

GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4830 512MB or 4850 (the 4830 is a great GPU, currently on par with 9800GTX so great bang for buck card, if you can afford it, get a 4850)

HDD: Any good 250 or 500 GB HD should do, make sure it's got a good cache size such as 16, 32 MB and a SATA interface, good brands are Seagate and Western Digital)

DVD-RW: Asus DRW-22B1LT 22x (should work great, or there is the alternative of a Samsung SH-S223Q/RSMN 22x)

Cooling: Buy 1 or 2 case fans and a good CPU cooler, Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro is good for LGA775 CPU's)

    PSU: OCZ StealthXStream 600w

I don't know how much all that would be in AUD, around £600 or £700 here though + VAT. If you want to keep the setup you posted above azn, I'd take out the PSU and replace it for a good 600w, a better CPU e.g. E7300 or E8200, better RAM and at least a 4830.

That would cost at least 1.5k.

  5. Just played it for 30min and will never touch that game ever again.

thats right, but i dnt, the graphics suck, the story sucks, the driving physics are horrible

Bingo. You might think "Hey its only graphics and physics, I'm here for the gameplay", but no. Seriously, the driving wanted to make me rip my brain out.

I'm playing it on the PC and for some reason, sound only seems to come out on the right side of my headphones. This only happens in the game.

    4/10 for me.

  6. Just keeping people up to date with some gaming based news.

Wii-itis: Up to ten hospitalised weekly from playing Nintendo

    Source

As many as ten people a week are being hospitalised due to injuries incurred playing Nintendo Wii games, prompting doctors to warn of the dangers associated with the popular video game system.

"There has been a 100 percent increase in patients complaining of Wii-itis," Dr. Dev Mukerjee of Broomfield Hospital, Essex, told Britain's The Sun newspaper.

Most of the injuries occur in games such as tennis or running games that require sudden movements, resulting in tendon injuries.

"It's possible Wii-itis may lead to rheumatism or arthritis later in life. Patients often have inflamation of the shoulder or wrist," said Dr. Mukerjee.

Up to ten people a week are being hospitalized with injuries caused by playing Nintendo Wii games, prompting doctors in Britain to issue warnings of the dangers associated with the video game system.

The Wii-Fit game even has an injury all of its own, dubbed Wii-knee, blamed on the bending on the knee required during the game.

In some reported cases, the kneecap can be dislocated or pop out of joint.

Doctors reccomend regular stretching exercises before playing any Nintendo Wii games.

American boy picks up driving skills from video games

    Source

    (Short Version)

You are six years old. You wake up one morning, Dad's at work, Mum's still asleep, but you have to get to school and you just missed the bus! What do you do? Obviously, you grab the keys to the family car, and drive there yourself. How did you get the skills to drive a car, when you're ten years too young for your L-plates? Why, Grand Theft Auto and Monster Truck Jam, of course.

At least, that's what happened in Virginia earlier this week. The boy drove more than ten miles toward school before sliding off an embankment and hitting a utility pole about a mile and a half before reaching his destination. While the car was written off, the boy got out suffering only minor injuries and started to walk the rest of the way.

Northumberland County Sheriff Chuck Wilkins observes:

"He was very intent on getting to school. When he got out of the car, he started walking to school. He did not want to miss breakfast and PE."

Things could have been much worse According to media reports, the boy (who has not been named) made "at least two 90-degree turns" in his parents' 2005 Ford Taurus, ran off the rural two-lane road several times, made it through two intersections and passed a number of cars at "a pretty great rate of speed", before hitting the embankment. Police have been able to piece together that the boy was possibly standing while driving (he had also moved the seat as far forward as he could), and looking out of the side window more than the main windscreen.

The accident allegedly happened when the boy decided to cross the double-line to overtake another car - as he pulled out, however, he saw a tractor-trailer heading towards him in the other lane. He swerved back into his own lane, but ("unlike in video games" say the mainstream media), the car skidded out of control, slid into an embankment and collided with a utility pole on the rear passenger side with enough force to crack a wooden beam on top of the pole.

The boy and his 4-year-old brother have been placed in protective custody while their parents, who were known to police, are facing child endangerment charges.

    Sheriff Wilkins continues:

"This really is a story of miracles ... We're a rural area, but if we do have a rush hour, that's it ... The Lord was with him, along with everybody else on the highway."

As for the boy himself - he was briefly taken to hospital to check out a bump on his head before being driven to school, arriving shortly after lunch (after all that, he did miss Monday morning PE!).

  7. I got mine from 2.4 to 3 now. I got an error running Prime95 13min into the stress test but after i upped some CPU voltage it did fine the next test which went for about 8 hours.

Should i replace my stock cooler to something better though?
