Gerard
System restore will *not* help - windows has no control over that. A partition is just an area of your hard drive you use as a drive. Usually your entire hard drive is 1 partition, but sometimes you have an extra one for recovery data, and sometimes you choose to have more than one. The point is that you can delete/format one partition without affecting the others, and is the best way of having multiple Windows/Linux installations on one hard drive. If you delete a partition, you'll simply not be able to use the space that that partition used up, UNTIL you make a new partition in that space. That can be done from the disk manager in computer management, or using the XP install disk, or with other software. The other option is to expand your main partition to fill up the space. This can be done on Server 2008, and you can buy some software to do it (eg Paragon Partition Manager). But its tricky, and dangerous (you might break your main partition and have to start again)
