Custom Colors

Ok, I've been modding my SA gave for a few days now... haven't really run into any issues except for the custom colors.

I've basically been following JVT's mods mostly because I love the detail he puts into his cars, also I've been adding some from other international sites. Now I've run into a problem when adding custom colors (JVT's instructions specifically) I added the additional lines to my carcol.dat file and it doesn't seem to be taking. Every time I load up the game and take a car to the shop it doesn't have any of the new colors. Any idea's as to why I can't seem to get the mod to take?

Specifically, this is what I've added to my carcol.dat file:

23,23,23 # 127 jvt gray ointment dark

130,7,160 # 128 jvt extra any purple dark

128,0,255 # 129 jvt extra purple dark

64,0,128 # 130 jvt extra dark purple dark

217,159,6 # 131 jvt gold b yellow

254,192,72 # 132 jvt gold c yellow

255,0,0 # 133 jvt signal red red

111,230,2 # 134 jvt signal green green

255,246,0 # 135 jvt signal yellow yellow

255,128,0 # 136 jvt signal orange yellow

255,149,0 # 137 jvt extra luminus yellow

10,86,59 # 138 jvt cool green green

253,192,237 # 139 jvt light pink pink

Do I need to place the color palate somewhere for it to pick up those colors?

Your additions aren't the problem... It's because you can't expect to just add some colors and have Transfender pick up on them and use them. If you look at the choices while in the shop, you only have 64 colors to choose from. I am pretty sure that you have to replace colors #0-63 with your own values for them to appear properly in the shop. I won't swear to this cuz I haven't messed with them. I simply add my own in a similar way that you have but I leave the originals for the other vehicles in the game that I'm not modding.

If you want your modded vehicles to use your custom colors but don't care about choosing them while in the shop simply leave your new color additions alone then do the following:

- Goto the line(s) in carcols.dat for each vehicle you want to use your new colors then edit them to use your new values. Eg. You want to change the Freeway chopper's colors. Find it's line then edit it to choices like 127,127, 128, 128, 129, 129, etc.. Make as few or as many color pairs as you want. Save the file when done. Now when you play the game it will choose from those new values for the colors so you'll see them on the street automatically. Getting the color you want is as simple as jacking or finding the right spawn when they come along.

BTW, you might want to revise your palette numbers slightly. Although you can use values above 127, some of them are hard-coded into the game to be certain colors. The effect of this is that no matter what you set they will always appear the way the game uses them. The ones you'll need to skip over are: 128 (bright green), 130 (bright pink), 132 (bright purple), and 136 (black).

Also, in case you're wondering, I've heard the limit for palette assignments is somewhere around 175/6.

Old topic but still relevant.

The mod that sticks out is one where the specs of the colors called by the modshop was changed. I think they're

set in MAIN.SCR & I haven't found that yet.

Where you'll see the changes is if you edit CARCOLS.DAT & add the new colors there. Find a common car & add

a couple new colors to it.

BACK UP EVERY FILE YOU PLAN TO EDIT!!!
