"Manager.exe"

Ever since I installed the new Internet Explorer 8 RC1, this error message comes up after the computer boots:

managerxp0.jpg

It's nothing harmful or viral, but it's just says that it encountered a problem and it needs to close. What's does "Manager.exe" have to do with anything? Is there a fix for this. (It's nothing urgent to ask for but is there a fix?)

The short version is that your operating system had a conflict w/ MANAGER.EXE & shut it down, still annoying but

better than locking up.

Take a minute & use your search to find MANAGER.EXE, see what it's part of. If you can get fully booted before you

get the message, hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE (Windows XP) for your TASK MANAGER & look for it under PROCESSES, see

what USER is identified. I'm running XP pro w/ service pack 2 & it doesn't show up so I don't think it's part of your OS.

OK, I'm searching for it now.

EDIT: It's nowhere to be found. That's strange.

OK, time for me to resurrect this topic.

Here's what I've noticed recently. Whenever my Webroot Spy Sweeper (love it) blocks a certain IP address at startup, the error message comes. I forgot the first 2 parts of it (XX.XXX) but here is the other half: XX.XXX.93.21.

Thanks. I'll look that up when that IP I encounted comes up again. Tune in next reboot. :P

The MANAGER.EXE file is likely to be this: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/m....exe-23799.html

or this: http://www.threatexpert.com/files/manager.exe.html

Try searching for the file, and if you're lucky enough to copy it to the desktop, upload it to Virus Total for analysis.

If it turns out to contain malware, let me know.
