Er, how do you use the phone?
MattyDienhoff replied to MattyDienhoff's topic in GTA IV Discussion + Help
As little sense as that makes from a game design point of view, I'm in your debt. -
I know this will seem like a stupid question, but I can't figure out how to use the phone in the PC version of GTAIV. And don't tell me I should've searched, because: A: The search function in this forum is a joke and won't let you search for any word that's less than four characters. What was I supposed to search for? "howe tooo usee thee phone"? B: Besides listing the keybinds used to take out/put away the phone, the manual doesn't say anything about actually using it, go figure. C: The only answers I could find elsewhere on the net referred to console controls which obviously isn't applicable on the PC version when you're using a keyboard&mouse. So, I have two keys, UP ARROW, which takes the phone out, and BACKSPACE, which puts it away. I changed UP ARROW to \ because I use the arrows for driving. Having taken the phone out, I can use the menu which only contains two options, multiplayer, and video editor. Of the keys I've tried (and believe me, I've tried practically everything) nothing allows me to use the numpad (to dial a number) or go anywhere else in the menu. So tell me, how do you access the phones features? Clearly, it's not exactly obvious.

It's far bigger than GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas combined.

All but the last part, which I recycled from an obscure meme I came across.

The Greatest GTA IV trailer EVER.
MattyDienhoff replied to Victor_Vance's topic in GTA IV Discussion + Help
What Earthbound said. It's nice, but some of the video is low quality/low volume and the transition between the songs needs a bit more work. Also, audiences typically don't respond well to being told what to think of something, so I'd quit using the arrogant "greatest evar" style of presentation if I were you. -

Deus Ex - a.k.a. "the best game ever". I'm not comfortable with making such declarations, but I will say it's one of the best games ever. I've completed the game several times but I'm just getting into the modding side of it now, and for those of you who know the game and haven't heard of a mod called Shifter, you should really give it a try. It's no total conversion, but makes scores of little changes that all add up into a big thing. New augmentations, slightly tweaked AI, balancing, alt-fire capability for some weapons... all sorts of little things. It's really well done.

I'm interested to see how everyone chooses music to listen to in-game. I know a lot of people just use their entire collection. But me... I pick and mix. I choose tracks that suit the atmosphere of the game and (preferably) belong to the era in which it's set. (Though music released 3 or 4 years after the game is set is okay) So, while I might have a few songs from 1987-88 in my Vice City user tracks folder, you won't find me listening to anything from the 90s or 00s, because it just doesn't suit. I also choose music that suits the atmosphere of the game, so much of the music on my GTA3 playlist is somewhat gloomy and moody, with a lot of electronic music, industrial metal, instrumental hip hop and britpop (Imagine driving around the Red Light District at night in the middle of one of Liberty's many rainstorms while listening to DJ Shadow's "Building Steam With a Grain of Salt" and you'll see what I mean.); while my Vice City playlist has a brighter, faster, wildier mixture of 70s and 80s glam rock, pop, metal and electro. You get the idea.
