Damjan
Whenever Windows 7 boots up, the speakers have the red X on them, and don't work.I have to reinsert the cable everytime. This only happens on Windows 7 though, nothing on XP and Linux.
WRX22B1998
what speakers have a red X on them ? you mean the icon, or what?
Deji
If it's on the icon, it's probably just muted. Try turning your system volume up. Dunno much about Windows 7, though.

WRX22B1998
So if you re-insert the cable it fixes the problem...but without doing that it doesnt work? If so, that's pretty strange. try reinstall your sound drivers, not much else I can recommend.
The Bossman
Maybe these links will help. It's the same problem you have, the red x, and there's a few solutions posted by users there. Might help? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080506080741AAHqHYz http://www.fixya.com/support/t2408302-red_x_speaker_icon_says_no http://www.windows7taskforce.com/view/3344 The audio definitely doesn't work? Have you tried playing different video types like mpeg, WMV, etc, to see if they work? Or is there just no sound?
WRX22B1998
i had a quick look through those, most are saying to reinstall the driver. but some people said not even that helps them, and it's just a issue with windows 7. what you could do, is make a batch file that runs on startup (put it in the startup folder), and it stops and starts the windows audio service, like this. echo off net stop audiosrv net start audiosrv exit
