So I wanted to open some files with .net extension and my computer asks what program to use so I can open it. The thing is that I have no fucking idea so yeah, any help would be great. Thanks. Gerard Posted February 21, 2010 Share Posted February 21, 2010 .net is a weird file extension. It's not a common one, used by netViz, FileMaker, linux OSs (rc.net) and a few obscure random apps. Where did you get it from? What are you expecting to be in it? Image, video, a program? Is it possible that it's got the wrong file extension? Gerard Posted February 22, 2010 Share Posted February 22, 2010 In that case, it's probably going to be a proprietory file format ONLY used by that game, probably containing multiple audio files and other information (rather than just being one MP3). A bit like GTA games use IMG files to store lots of DFF/TXD models. If you really need it, you could look for mods for that game and see if there are any tools for opening NET files. You could try renaming it to .mp3 or .wav and see if any of them work, but I'd doubt it unless you are expecting to be one song. You could always record the audio from your game? Bit of a hacky workaround but if you're desperate and can't get it anywhere else you could do that. Probably not strictly legal, as you won't be licenced to listen to that music except in that game. _Ray Posted February 22, 2010 Share Posted February 22, 2010 Try using Switch Sound Converter as it can convert anything regardless of file extension since it decodes the file based on figuring out its internal structure, not the extension. It should work, I once used it to convert a .ogg file (didn't know what it was at the time) when it was incorrectly named as a .docx (WTF? ) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

_Ray Posted February 23, 2010 Share Posted February 23, 2010 Another program that's VERY versatile would be VLC Media Player and if you right click on the .net file and then click open with VLC once you locate the EXE it may be able to play it.
