The Bossman
Well, what can I say? The longest gaming development cycle in history is basically complete, and the full DNF game will be released in 2011. Below you'll see screenshots, promo stuff, and anything else I can get my hands on. I'll try to keep adding stuff to the topic, but damn, we need some activity here guys, geez. First, a little history of the game: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=214464 http://duke.a-13.net/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_Nukem_Forever And a nice timeline of the game here, with many many links to look at, probably the best link to look at in terms of the history - http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=duke+nukem+forever+history&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=8nW&sa=G&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&channel=s&prmd=nv&tbs=tl:1&tbo=u&ei=FCuCTOPEIYOI4gbXi_zTCw&oi=timeline_result&ct=title&resnum=13&ved=0CEsQ5wIwDA Now, pics: I'm sure there's more pics, I'll try to put more up here when I find them. A few articles below about the game: http://www.destructoid.com/i-played-duke-nukem-forever-today-what-the-f-ck--183108.phtml http://kotaku.com/5629782/duke-nukem-forever-impressions-two-girls-one-duke http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/111/1118251p1.html http://pax.gamespot.com/story/6275192/duke-nukem-forever-hands-on-impressions http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/03/duke-nukem-forever-preview/ Maybe some links I missed in this topic here - http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=109881 And to end, a couple of videos, but there are probably lots more out there, just a question of surfing Youtube or wherever for them: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/pax-10-duke-nukem/704001 http://www.gametrailers.com/video/pax-10-duke-nukem/704013http://www.gametrailers.com/video/pax-10-duke-nukem/704013 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bHP7AWcTEA http://kotaku.com/5629655/your-first-look-at-duke-nukem-forever-in-action Let's not forget the official site eh - http://www.dukenukem.com/ So yeah, I always had a sneaking suspicion this would be released, it's just a joy to know it's finally being released next year. Kitsune Inferno
Ugh... it's disgusting the way this game still attracts attention. I personally hate it when anything gets by on name recognition and nostalgia alone. Nothing, absolutely nothing is worth waiting, what, thirteen years for? Especially on something whose creators spent at least a decade dicking around. (Chinese Democracy, much?) I'm sorry about being such a Negative Nancy, but I am completely baffled as to why anyone still gives a crap about Duke Nukem Forever after such a long period in development hell. I mean, were the original games really that good or is it simply the eponymous character everyone was waiting for? Because the Duke is an even bigger prick than I am. But who knows? Maybe the game will cure cancer or come prepackaged with a pair of tits and a good-looking bimbo attached to them. Maybe it's actually a halfway-decent game. But I still ask, "Was it worth it?" Think about the colossal amount of resources that were poured into DNF and wonder about the games that never got any funding because of this behemoth. The Bossman
It absolutely wasn't worth it, the amount of restarts the developers made was ridiculous, but it doesn't change the fact a lot of people loved the 3D game in 1996, and I'm sure they're looking forward to this coming out. It's mainly down to the stupid creative director, deciding each and every graphics engine wasn't good enough for the game, and subsequently re-doing most of the whole game again. That stuff should be saved for sequels, which are meant to improve things, not for one game FFS. Madness. As for the character, Duke himself was one of the first of his kind obsessed with women, guns, booze, etc etc, and because he's so OTT, I presume loads of people wished they WERE him. His one liners help as well, which are taken from quite a few movies. It looks like there's more of the same in DNF, which apparently has a 'Beer' button, and opens with you standing in front of a urinal, telling you how to pee. Ivan
I played a Duke Nukem game a few months ago on the 360, it was pretty bad. Although, I can see how it could be fun a few years back.

So people aspire to be crude, chauvinistic, jingoistic, alcoholic, and gun-fanatical lunkheads who parrot lines other people have written? Did I ever mention how much I hate other people? Granted that it's all tongue-in-cheek, but I live in the South and have to suffer this breed of morons every day. Well, at least until I started attending college and pleasantly found out that those guys were too stupid to follow me. It's just the feeling of being a muthafucker that doesn't give a shit, that takes absolutely no shit from anyone, and is generally an asshole but not overly hateful - tongue in cheek like you said. He's got more balls than almost all other game characters, both literally and metaphorically. He's a wise cracking ass kicking mofo man, that's why people like him.
