Gerard
Many games from many publishers release single-level demo versions of their games, distributed in gaming magazines everywhere. Should Rockstar produce a demo version of GTA4? They haven't done so for a while, but I think it would be enough to satisfy the gaming nation, bring out loads of reviews, and wet the appetites of those that would not otherwise be that interested. They did bring out a demo for Vice City for the PS2 (apparently). This consisted of only the Ocean Beach area, walled off, but they didn't do this for SA. For GTA4, I'm thinking one mission, in a visibly restricted section of the first city. Maybe a car chase mission, or one that involves a new feature (i'm guessing conversations, climbing ladders, or destroying buildings/trees). They could actually hack off the sides of the city, and remove unused textures from gta3.img, so that hackers couldnt bring out more than is first possible. Maybe the PC demo would have encrypted files, so that cheats and modding isn't possible. Of course there would have to be one or two functions in the accessible area - for SA there could have been a hairdressers (but not a tatoo parlour), a pay'n'spray (but not transfender), a binco (but no other shop) and a cluckin' bell (but no other eaterie) This could be released before the first version (presumably PS2), or even just before the PC version is out, so the probable improved quality is visible. Any ideas why Rockstar didn't do this for San Andreas? I think its probably because they don't need to entice more people into getting the game, its a mega-popular francise as it is, AO or not. Spaz The Great
No, and NO. Limited GTA = Annoying as hell. Why would you want ANY of it spoiled before it came out? Screenshots, and videos, are as far as I want spoilers to go. I don't want to get a demo, get all excited about it, then remember I'm limited to one neighborhood. chris82
I never played the VC demo with only Ocean beach walled off, but please explain it more. What vehicles and peds did it have? Did it have a motorcycle and heli available? What about rain and the Ocean View interior? Also, I would have loved a OPSM2 demo disc with a SA demo on it. Maybe just Ganton Los Santos or The Strip LV. Also, yes, they need to encrypt, it's very easy to get more cars than allowed in the demo of Midnight Club 2. tommy vercetti guy
I have never heard of a demo for Vice City, give us proof! And chris82, how?
Chris
There was never a demo for any of the GTA3 era GTA's. There was for classic GTA's I think. Xenon was just saying that to make his post more credible Personally I don't think they will bother releasing a demo. Reasons why? They should be focusing all their time to the final version of the game. It can destroy a lot of hype. People will believe the final version will be similar and will be disappointed. Also, Tommy, it is not illegal to do because Rockstar included the extra cars but decided to block em off for some reason, but it's not getting the whole game out of the demo, just getting like 5 more of the LA cars. Gerard
I'd actually written the post, then was corrected by mvi who persuaded to me the existence of an Ocean Beach PS2 demo for VC. I only joined the GTA community after the PC launch of Vice City, so I took his word for it. Would take hours to find one in Google.
