  1. OK, for my new PC I am to get, I do plan on a little bit of overclocking. I plan to do all this without changing voltage, or my GPU's Fan. I plan to overclock the GPU, Memory, and CPU. Not the northbridge, I know very little about it. I PLAN: 1) Core 2 Quad Q9550 OC from 2.83GHz to 3.2 GHz and FSB from 1333 MHz to ~1500 MHz. Heatsink will be Arctic Cooling Freeze 7 Pro. 2) Overclock Memory from 1066 to 1200 MHz. No overvolt, no timing change, no fan on Memory. 3) Overclock Gigabyte GeForce 9800GT 1GB from 600 to 700 GPU MHz (Comes stock that way) and Memory possibly from 1800 to 2000. (Or less if needed) This will be without a replacement heatsink. Max temp is 105 Celsius, but I would like to keep it well under 95. Will this all work, be stable, last 5 years, etc., without overheating or having me change the voltage?
  2. List your hardware, so we have something to work with. Also check your HDD, CPU, and GPU Temperatures, and CPU Usage. Use CPU-Z and GPU-Z for info. http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php http://www.filehippo.com/download_gpuz/ What are you running at the same time as the game? What graphics settings are you on? Are you Overclocking? Is it stable? Many factors could explain it. The OC however, is least likely.
  3. OK. I'm getting an NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT 1GB Factory OC'd to 700 MHz from 600. I also have 8GB 1200 MHz (OC'd from 1066) RAM, which I'll never use, (Not likely to use the 1GB Vid Memory Either, though ) but I was wondering if anybody knew of any software that would allow me to reserve a certain portion of my RAM to video memory. I plan on reserving either 512, or 768 MB of my RAM if possible. If possible, does my Video card have this built in? Perhaps my BIOS. For info: MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813128358 GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814125246
  4. When I get my new PC, I'll be playing at 1920x1200 with every setting on MAX Just kidding, don't think even my new PC would be able to do that. Still plan on 1920x1200 though. (Maybe) New PC: OC'd Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 (OC'd to 3.2GHz (2.83 Stock), ~1500 MHz FSB, 12MB L2 Cache, Quad Core) with Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Heatsink 8GB SDRAM OC'd to 1200MHz, 4 DIMMS (1066 Stock) 1GB Gigabyte GeForce 9800GT 256-bit Memory Bandwidth, Factory OC'd to 700 CPU MHz (600 Stock) Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P Motherboard OCZ 700W PSU Vista 64-bit SAMSUNG SATA 3.0Gb/s 7200RPM 1TB HDD SAMSUNG 2433BW 24" WideScreen LCD Monitor Also, can somebody give me a list of all the resolutions GTAIV gives you the option of?
  5. Post a pic. I do believe you, but just post the pic.

    GTAIV

What specs of a PC would you need to have in order to run GTAIV at the highest resolution, color depth, etc. Basically, every single setting on MAX, or the highest you can get. What would it take? My Guesses are like a 4GHz 16 Core CPU, 32GB Ram, and a 4GB NVIDIA GeForce 999999999GT with a 4096-bit Memory Bandwith, but that's just me....
  7. Yeah, just delete every partition in every OS, and then create a 4GB one in Windows. Simple, it should work. And yes also, the FAT File System, due to a limited amount of Memory Addresses, (only so many combinations with so many digits) cannot possibly exceed 2GB in size. Similar to the concept of how 32-bit OS's cannot use over 3.2GB RAM.
  8. Post your 1 Million Digit PI Calculation Time, and CPU/ Memory Information, if possible. Program Included. hyper_pi_0.99.rar My 1.8GHz (OC'd to 2.0 GHz, and 222 FSB) Single Core AMD Athlon 64 2800+ took a whole 50 seconds. This was even with the Priority on Above Normal. Then again, I had Windows Explorer and Firefox on high..... I also have DDR 200 (OC'd to 222) 512MB 1 DIMM Memory. Sucks. My School's PC with a dual core 2.33 GHz CPU only took 26 seconds. The lack of software and resource usage probably helped a lot too.... Also, don't forgot to select 1M, raise the priority for faster times, and select more cores is you have more.
  9. I have AdAware now too. Well, I had it before, but Real-Time Watch was unavailable.
  10. Which is exactly why I went with 8GB DDR2 1066 RAM (Soon to be OC'd to 1200 ), and even considered 12GB at one point. And I've actually decided on a Samsung 7200RPM 1TB Drive.
  11. OK, due to the very kind suggestions of others, I have modified the build to a setup that remains below $750 (Minus motherboard, est. $150) and can run GTAIV, while staying well below your budget of $1000. (Not on high settings) GPU: GIGABYTE GV-N98TOC-1GH GeForce 9800 GT 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Also, incase your 1000 budget was in AUD, $750 = est. 1050 AUD (Over budget??)
  12. Does anybody know of any good overclocking software? I want one that can modify CPU and FSB Frequency/ Voltage and CPU Multiplier, Video Card Frequency (Work with Onboard Video??) and Memory Frequency/ Voltage. My BIOS has like no options, so I've decided to go software. Also, I'm not experienced with overvolting the Northbridge, etc., so it doesn't have to do that. Thanks, Raybob Oh yeah, in case you say, I can't find any good software with google. And the software MUST be free.

  14. Yes, and 9400GT. no... its not. there's a reason that pentium dualcore is cheaper than core2duo. its worse. you really think they'd sell something better for less money? Yes it is. Especially when it's a 1GB Card for half the price. Yes I do. An Example: Core 2 Quad Q9550 ($270) and Core 2 Quad Q9650 ($340) Same exact CPU, only the 9650 is stock overclocked for an extra $70. And what exactly is worse about the pentium? Give me specifics. And don't forgot, I also did suggest a certain Core 2 Duo for him. Oh last thought, I never said the Pentiums were better, they're just a load better compared to price. Equal performance to a low end Core 2 Duo, but half the price.
  15. You keep failing to remember that if they are currently on the internet at their house, there's a good chance they have a monitor, speakers, keyboard, and mouse. Exactly my point, thank you, this PC will be extremely cheap, especially compared to its performance, and plenty of room for upgrade by their amount of left over budget.
  16. Has AZN already bought a PC? But No, Pentium Dual-Cores, especially that one are really much better for their money than the cheaper Core 2 Duos. That particular Pentium, with a good mobo, is also overclockable up to almost 3.5GHz. Next, the 9400GT, especially 1GB, is a hell of a lot better than the 8800GT or any other low-end Radeon. Third, I also suggested another CPU, if that one wasn't good enough. (Do Read, please ) And also, this rig is WAYYYYY cheaper than any other rig I've seen posted on this forum so far. Plenty of room for upgrade modifications. Mainly, how is it a terrible rig? 640GB 3.0Gb/s HDD 3GB 1333 DDR3 RAM 2.5GHz Dual Core CPU 1GB NVIDIA 9 Series GPU For all less than $520. (Excluding mobo of course ) Terrible? Yeah, no.
  17. I found all this on Newegg MOBO: No idea, ask someone else. (But I reccomend Gigabyte) Should be <150$ CPU: Intel Pentium E5200 (ONLY $70, 2.5GHz, Dual Core, 800MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache, 45nm Tech) GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT 1GB 128-bit (77$, 1GB, 128-bit Memory Bandwidth, 550MHz) PSU: APEVIA ATX-AS600W-BL 600W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready Power Supply - Retail ($99) Case: Antec Solo Black/Silver Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail ($90) RAM: CORSAIR XMS3 3GB (3 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail($85) HDD: Seagate ST3640323AS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM ($70) DVD-RAM: LG Black 22X (CAV) DVD+R Multi Recorder ($25) All together, this PC could easily run GTAIV, and adds up to less than $520. However, it does not include Monitor, Speakers, Mouse and Keyboard, OS, Motherboard (Should be less than $150), Tax, and Shipping. And also, for a major CPU Upgrade, go with the Core 2 Duo E6850 (65nm tech, 4MB L2 Cache, Dual-Core, 1333FSB, 3.0GHz) Est. $170

    Help

Oh yeah, and I forgot to say, if it helps, when I last got the PC to boot after this last happened, it said "CMOS Checksum Error"

    Help

Currently, I'm on my Mom's Dell Latitude laptop. The reason is that my other PC will not pass the POST Test and boot up. It happened when I set the CPU Host Frequency in the BIOS to 234 MHz (2.1GHz CPU, 234 MHz FSB, 234 MHz DDR RAM) The norms are the host at 200, CPU at 1.8, RAM @ 200, FSB @ 200. Setting the Host to 222 had worked just fine. When I saved the settings to BIOS and re-booted the computer, it turned on, and did absolutely nothing. No POST Test Beep, no monitor display or nothing. Really all that happened was the power light and fans turning on. That's it. When I reset it, the power light began flickering, and the PC continuously made 3 second beeping noises. It just kept doing that. No boot, nothin. Now this has happened before, but I can't remember what I did to fix it. I have tried power cycling it, holding the delete key, leaving it off for a while, etc. So my question is, how to I reset BIOS? If I can't, then how to do I get the PC to boot at least enough so I can get into BIOS and change the bad settings? P.S., I did not over-volt anything. Oh, and if it helps, I am using a Gigabyte K8M800-8000 motherboard, or something like that.
