  1. I've been playing GTA IV for a while now and it's a great game, except for a few small things that bug me. The most annoying thing is the default camera angle while driving. I was wondering if anyone was making a mod which made the camera angle more active, so that you don't have to constantly fiddle around with the mouse while driving around tight corners.
  2. To be honest, it's your PC, you should be able to see for yourself what looks and plays good. Just keep cranking up the settings until you start to notice the game running slowly, then you will know what your computer is capable of. If it doesn't lag at 1920x1400, then play at that resolution.
  3. That PC is just crying out for a higher resolution. Do your graphics card justice and buy a huge TV!And yes, that is a very capable PC. It should be able to run most games on max settings.
  4. Pentiums aren't great, even as dual core, but people have had the game running on them, so it is just the graphics card which is stopping you from playing. If you get a new graphics card with 512mb video memory and another GB of RAM (check that your motherboard supports more than 2GB) then you should be able to play the game reasonably well.
  5. This is the exact location of mine: (note I'm using Vista) C:\Users\Dave\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\user_e000007bceb6e114 You have to set vista to show hidden files and folders.

Personally, I think the main things that need to be improved are gameplay issues. For starters, that terrible camera angle needs to be fixed. They got it right in all the previous GTAs, why did they suddenly decide to slow it down for IV? Also, the cover system needs to be improved. For example, there are sometimes objects that you can't dive behind, but this is just random, so you'll press the cover button and Niko just stands there getting shot. Also, sometimes he hides behind the wrong thing. Perhaps there needs to be a system where the game detects where people are shooting from and chooses which object to hide behind by how effectively it sheilds you from being shot. Another thing that needs to be improved is the online stability, but I'm hoping that Rockstar have figured this out already and are fixing it for a patch. I also think that they should make it so you can't carry around so many hude weapons. It feels ridiculous to just grab a rocket launcher from your coat pocket. It would also make the game more challenging, which is good. It is not necessary to carry a shotgun, uzi, pistol, M4, sniper rifle and rocket launcher. Call it OCD, but I try to complete GTA games with nothing more than an SMG and a pistol and it makes the game much more challenging. I think that if you need a special weapon, you should be given it in missions and have to stash it at a safehouse or drop it if you want to use a different weapon or something. Other than this, the only features I'd like to see in the next game are more variety in mission type (less drive, shoot, run from cops type missions) and a more explorable map (some countryside would be nice). A new city instead of VC or SA would also be great.
  7. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think a motherboard which supports SLI will also support crossfire, so you shouldn't have a problem.
  8. I'll be blunt. Buy a new computer. You'll want: Intel Core2 (duo or quad are both fine, as long as it's a decent speed) At least 2GB RAM, preferably 3, since it's fairly cheap. Make sure you have a motherboard which supports it. ATI 3850, 3870, 4850, 4870 or NVIDIA 8600, 8800, 9600, 9800, 260 or 280.
  9. Thanks, I'll try to find one. As for the processor, does this mean I'll need a totally new computer altogether? I have no idea. You don't need to replace your computer if you get a new processor, but I don't think you need one. I was running an AMD x2 2.1GHz a little while ago and it worked fine. If you go for an ATi card, I'd reccommend an ATi 3850 512mb. Great card, for a really low price.
  10. To create a commandline to change the resolution, create a new notepad file. Type in '-width (whatever your monitor's width is, in pixels) -height (your monitor's height)'. For example, my monitor is 20" and the resolution is 1600x1200, so I would type '-width 1600 -height 1200'. Save it as 'commandline.txt', then place it in the folder that GTA IV is installed in (default C:\program files\rockstar games\Grand Theft Auto IV). Don't expect it to run great if you only have a 256mb graphics card, though. Alternatively, you could just type in -nomemrestrict (or whatever it is, it's explained in one of the sticky topics) and change the settings for yourself in the game. Have fun.
  11. I don't really think that there's much you can do short of updrading your system. An 8500GT isn't a very good card even with 512mb of memory, let alone the version you have. I used to have one and it struggled even to play San Andreas. I don't know much about the processor, but I've heard that pentium duos aren't very good either. One thing which could help is to install a clean version of windows on dual boot, just for games. This will allow you to disable all of the crap that runs in the background. Also, this might work for you: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=384473
  12. No, but you can get an ATI 3850 512mb for about the same price, and that will run it well. Or, if you want to spend a little more, get a 3870.
  13. I'v been able to get quite far into the game so far, so I know that my system has nothing to do with this. I've also seen that other people have exactly the same problem with this specific mission, but I couldn't find a fix for it. The game is fine through the cutscene, I get in a car and drive to the location, but when I get to the marked area, I get the loading screen and it just hangs there. I've left the game loading for half an hour and still nothing happens. I've had the problem before on one of Ray's missions (the one with the hotel) but it worked when I parked and went into the hotel on foot. I tried the same with this mission, but it says that I need a car. I've tried cleaning the disk (it's fine) but I don't know what else I can do. Can someone help me? My system, just in case anyone asks: Vista 32 AMD X2 3800+ 2.1GHz 3GB RAM ATi 3850 512mb
  14. Anything lower than 6 will be pretty poor. The 8500 is not made for gaming, so you'll want one of the following cards: NVIDIA 8600, 8800, 9600, 9800, 260 or 280. Or if you go for ATi, a 3850, 3870, 4850 or 4870. @ lmanlo, definitely not.
  15. I don't think that slightly lower than that would be fine. Only if you play with all at minimum, but where's the beauty of the game in that? I have exactly a 2.4 AMD cpu with an ATI4850. Doesn't run as it should. I recently put a 2.1GHz AMD X2 processor in my computer temporarily as my 3.1GHz died, and the game ran smoothly (perhaps with a few extra stutters and a slightly lower framerate, as can be expected) on exactly the same settings as before (1600x1200, medium texture quality, high render quality, draw distance 22, detail distance 11, vehicle density 10, shadows 0). My graphics card is an ATi 3850 512mb with 3GB RAM.
  16. I don't think you'd be able to run the game on that system. You'll need at least a dual core processor (2.4GHz minimum with AMD, although slightly lower will probably be fine), and a new graphics card, preferably with 512mb VRAM (an ATI 3850 or 3870 will do the job for a decent price).
  17. After 2 weeks of pain - turns out it was my processor. The new one which was working before I upgraded my motherboard, memory and GPU. I've put my dad's processor in there for the moment until I get a replacement. As is the way with PCs though, when you fix one thing another goes wrong. My TV card has now stopped working for no apparant reason. But I guess that's a problem for another forum.
  18. I'd go for this: http://www.amazon.com/Radeon-HD3870-512MB-...076&sr=1-16
  19. That card is certainly good enough, but it will depend on the rest of your system whether you will be able to play the game. What is your processor, RAM and OS? Windows Vista SP1 Intel Pentium DUal Core Processor E2160 2GB Ram I may not be an expert on computers but i know for a fact that my Processor aint good enough...so will it be a big problem? aIs it worth buying the graphics card even though my Processor isnt good enough? Well that processor may run the game, but even with that card you won't get very good performance. I would reccommend upgrading the processor too. If you're on a budget, go for a card like an ATi 3850 512mb, as it will give you similar performance, but you will probably have enough money to spare to get a decent processor too. Thanx for reply...sorry to ask but do you have a link to the ATi 3850 card since i cant find it in Best Buy...or is there anything else a bit better w/o the cost of more than $200 For the price you quoted you can get this: http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Radeon-HD48...1211&sr=8-1 or this: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-01G-P3-N972-TR-...1474&sr=1-1

  22. You'll want at least a Core 2 Duo processor (or an AMD X2) with a clock speed of over 2.4GHz for running the game, plus 2GB RAM and at least an NVIDIA 8600GT or ATi 3850.
  23. Okay, so I tried installing the graphics drivers that came with the card (after cleaning my PC of the old ones) and it made no difference. I then tried installing Vista basic x64 on my PC as dual boot, installed nothing but drivers and the game, and exactly the same thing happens and all i have to show for it is a broken keyboard which I smashed with my fist. I can therefore only assume that my graphics card itself is causing the problem. Should I try sending it back and asking for a replacement? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139628 - this is my exact card. Does anyone else have problems with it?
  24. I don't know a huge amount about ATi cards. I have a 3850, and it seems to play most games pretty well, it will probably play GTA IV well too, but I don't know (I have a feeling that my problem isn't to do with the card). You're probably safer going with NVIDIA as their drivers are better, but ATi are probably best value. So long as it's a 512mb card you'll be ok with either a 3850 or 3870 (or if you're willing to spend more, a 4850 or 4870).
