Commenting on yesterday's Newswire post, Rockstar have confirmed that Grand Theft Auto V has now gone gold! This means the game is now officially final, and on track for its September 17th release in just over 3 weeks time.

In an earlier statement that Rockstar also linked to, Sony took the blame and apologised to the fans and to Rockstar for the leak of certain pre-load assets yesterday, which led to some unlucky gamers getting spoiled. Thankfully the leaks were mainly limited to audio snippets rather than the entire game, although a full radio station song listing was also made available. Sony also confirmed that they have since removed the pre-load from the EU PlayStation Store, but did not give a date for when it would be made available again to buyers legitimately wanting to get the game downloaded in time for release.

Considering that Sony has been that stauch at combating piracy, but from what I've heard from Good-NTS, it's still not possible to run the game yet due to encryption. There's still a risk, though.

It won't be possible to run the game but a crapload of assets have been gotten off the files, including TV shows, the R* logo introduction video and cutscene audio... This is quite sad from Sony and for Rockstar.

Great news to hear the game has gone gold.

I remember playing Vice City for the first time when I was like 11, watching that opening intro with the waves revealing the colors to the Rockstar logo, followed by Video Killed the Radio Star was surreal, its still my favorite introduction in a video game ever. I don't want to experience the game for the first time through shitty youtube. And you're right man shit is everywhere! I read a minor story spoiler already on GTAforums, makes me wonder why he didn't just spoil the ending. But yeah I advise anyone who doesn't want to get spoiled to do the obvious don't go onto the forums, its safer here now for the most part. But its like playing Russian Roulette, I want no part of it. So see you people in September. :)

Also a tip that I picked up to avoiding spoilers: try reading from the bottom up, that way if someone did post spoilers people will have commented on them warning you.

Spent more then the usual time reading comments in Newswire, though I did leave after the PSN leaks were coming up. Missed this, but someone had already suggested, the game should be done outside of promotion and shipping to retail outlets in all markets it services. It was set to release this Spring, you'll recall, so the time spent with it in production shouldn't be wholly for GTA Online, as that's not set to release at the same time.

Still, getting things out to dealers ahead of schedule still leaves some worry about those YouTube leakers we saw last time, can someone circumvent channels with a connection to someone getting the game in advance? That's where I think it springs from, at least with the widespread videos we saw of GTA IV
