After news of GTAV's first day sales breaking $ 800 million, we all predicted that GTA V would be the quickest videogame in history to hit $ 1 billion in sales milestone. And it's gone and done just that in only three days!

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 20, 2013-- Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO) today announced that Grand Theft Auto V, the critically acclaimed latest release from the iconic interactive entertainment series, has achieved worldwide retail sales of more than billion during its first three days on sale, according to Company estimates. We believe this marks the fastest that any entertainment property, including video games* and feature films**, has reached this significant milestone.

"Grand Theft Auto is a cultural phenomenon and Rockstar Games continues to redefine what can be achieved in interactive entertainment," said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two. "We are incredibly proud of the extraordinary critical and commercial response to Grand Theft Auto V."

I'd also like to see real world crime figures reported after GTA's release, did crime actually drop because people who might not be the best moral judges, they're too busy playing GTA right now to be outside driven by boredom to do something stupid?

Anyway, of course, the more I play GTA V, the more I feel things I'd been harping on as far as issues, they aren't that far removed from GTA IV, so I reckon there was just not much reinvented there, going forward, but there certainly can be in the years ahead. Tonight I got a four star wanted level and was cruising around in the bulletproof police van before it blew up or flipped upside down, at least two vehicles finally blew up on me, seems rather rare for some reason, as does the lightning and thunder, though it does rain more frequently.

Congrats are in order, and I hope it's not another 5 years between games, at the most, I hope for that time frame to be cut down considerably! haha

If that time is spent creating a game as amazing as GTA V, I'm perfectly happy waiting another five years for GTA 6. And I really doubt I'm going to be the only person on this website to feel that way.

Nope, I feel the same way. This game is amazing and I cant possibly fathom what is in store for us next or how they will try to top this. I am excited to see what kinds of DLC they will release.

Congrats Rockstar! Wonder what game (or movie) will ever top that? GTA VI? Speaking of which if they could get it out in 4 years for the 20th anniversary that would be great.

Ultimately it's not THAT far removed from GTA IV, using elements of RDR mostly, not that that's bad in any way, but the detriments that still exist, as I pointed out with car collisions, and some minor handling, planes seem near to non-existent in the skies overhead, you can hear and not see elements around you, but that maybe due to sound design not taking into account visuals, I'll point out as well; the sound of planes close by or lawn mowers running, I've seen them lying dormant as yard fixtures but no actual peds mowing. It's still early though.

Crashing a car, let me give an example, in the USA any production car has to pass safety standards, have certification and can often encounter severe penalty if it's deemed unsafe, in crash testing speeds of 5 MPH do produce damage, and speeds under 50MPH can also cause severe cost damage to your wallet. I've owned 6 cars, in about 20 years or so of driving, I know this stuff first hand. In GTA gaming, you don't get anything like real-life in that regard, not that GTA should be the Sims, but we hope for something less arcady, less the direction of Saints Row... just an example I think many people also would agree with

That said, development on a pre-existing platform, engine, Middleware, all should have amounted to a shorter time span, just my way of thinking about it, but they also have to work with new hired staff, and there was rumor during the delay perhaps a tear down and rebuild of part of what makes up RAGE with Euphoria, but again, time will tell.

The massive money day GTA shows is that other game makers can approach the same school of thought and perhaps win out, but to beat GTA will be damn near impossible now!

GTA isn't about realism. Its about the humour and fun of the game, their replay value. Realism isn't always that great.

I hope they take all the time they need to keep making truly great games.

GTA will be partly about realism, come now, you don't believe what you're telling me do you? READ the interviews with it's developers and you'll come to understand that's their stance, it's not going to be anything other then black humor, satire and (word escapes me at present) that captures truth about society, and not just in the USA, it's always some angle that people can relate to because it's reality.
