  1. I'm no Brainiac on this sort of thing but it sounds like you're having trouble with drive access... It could be your HD can't keep up with the demand. This could be because you need to update your motherboard's I/O drivers (check the Asroc site). Or if the radio playing makes it worse it makes me wonder if you've got the sound data coming off the DVD instead of it being installed on the HD?
  2. After some digging in various files of the game and doing some testing, I want to let everyone interested know what I've found... There are several pedestrians that can be added to the streets of San Andreas! No fancy modding required cuz they're already in the game. It's just that it looks like Rockstar disabled them in the final release of GTA-SA. There are 3 that I've unlocked and they are: a Preacher, a Pimp and a Lifeguard. Unlocking them only requires loading the 'pedgrp.dat' file into Notepad (or similar) and adding the following text in the proper areas. (The file is located at [Drive]:\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas\data). The Lifeguard - Add the word WMYLG to the group of peds in the line that ends with # POPCYCLE_GROUP_BEACHFOLK (Add him here because it's the only sensible spot and where he belongs - the beach) The Pimp - Add the word BMYPIMP to the group of peds in any one or more of the lines # POPCYCLE_GROUP_CASUAL_RICH or AVERAGE or POOR (I chose to add him only to the poor group of peds in LS but if you want to see him everywhere go ahead) The Preacher - Add the word WMOPREA to the group of peds in any one or more of the same lines as the Pimp (I added him to the average areas of all 3 cities. Choose where you want) Once you're done adding them, save the file, boot up the game and watch for them to appear in the areas you've set! No other editing is required cuz they're already set up in other game files... Also know that in the case of the lifeguard and the preacher, they even have dialogue! The preacher is pretty funny especially... To hear him, bump into him or make like you're going to run him over and he'll spout,"Curse you, devil!" among other things. Do the same to hear the lifeguard. I could NOT get the pimp to say anything though. Even though it looked like his audio was intact according to one file, it must be blank or something. I haven't looked into it any further than that. I just wanted to see what would happen and when they showed on the streets, I was done! The pimp and preacher will also drive various vehicles. The lifeguard I'll leave for you to discover for yourselves what he does. So there you have it... My contribution for the day! Enjoy!
  3. You don't need to wait for other areas to open up to get access to a Hotring Racer. All you need to do is to win the 8-Track race at the stadium near CJ's and the Hotring will spawn near the entrance. This is most likely the one you're trying to change anyway.
  4. All 3D models for the game are contained within .IMG files. You can find them in [Drive]:\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas\models. To work with the .DFF files, you'll need an IMG editor tool. There are 3 main ones... gta3.img is the big one and contains all vehicles, weapons, people, buildings and other miscellaneous files. gta-int.img contains stuff viewed when inside buildings. player.img holds models and textures for the things CJ can wear or otherwise apply to his body. This means things like clothes, tattoos, haircuts, etc.. As far as adding NEW objects, you can only do it by replacing something else. Exceptions to this are objects that can be purchased in stores. With those, you can modify various files to add new clothes, for example. Not something for the inexperienced! Just check out some mods to see how others have done it and I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. Hope this helps clear things up!
  5. Well, I'm not really the person to answer that for you... I'm more of a 2D graphics guy. But, from reading past posts, I can tell you that a registered version of the program ZModeler or a commercial one called 3D Studio Max (exact name is fuzzy) are supposed to be able to import and save in .dff format. Maybe someone with the tools and experience could do it for you? Try asking around.
  6. You can't edit the body because there is NO texture assigned to it... For you to be able to do what you want requires that the .dff model of the SecuriCar have a separate texture set for those body parts. The way around this would be to load the model into a 3D program and set a texture for those surfaces. Beyond this, maybe someone else has an alternate solution.
  7. I was sure it was the american.gxt file... So I had another looking after posting and boy do I feel dumb now! Turns out the reason it wasn't working was because the editor I used, GTA-SA Ultimate Editor, had still been in my backup folder. I hadn't noticed it before. So I was changing my backup... Could happen to anyone! Thanx for the reply.
  8. I think it could be a reference to the Men In Black (MIBs), the government Black Ops people that the Truth is so paranoid about. I think he mentions them at one time or another.
  9. Can anyone tell me how to rename vehicles so that when you jump in/on one, it shows the new name? I'm sure I was able to do it once before when I had installed the Dodge Challenger over top of the Clover by editing the 'American.gxt' file. But later on when I tried to rename others, it wouldn't work! It still shows the original name. I looked through all the data files relating to vehicles but couldn't find my change. It occurred to me that it might be because the names were being saved in the save game so I looked into one with a hex editor but nothing there either. What am I missing? Could it be because I already have the vehicles I want to change the names of saved in garages?
  10. I couldn't get that one to work either... I even tried an updated proxy version that caused the game to not even launch. My advice is to look for a different one. One that worked for me is called 'SACamHack'. It may not look as slick but it's functional. I think you'll find it on the GTAGarage site.
  11. I have only played around with replays a couple times but here's what I've figured out... Pressing F1 will replay the last bit of stuff going on before you pressed the key. Whether this works once only or multiple times I'm not sure. Press F2 and the last bit of stuff is saved in a .rep file for later recall. You can verify by looking in your MyDocuments/GTA San Andreas User files folder. Pressing F3 will replay this saved file any time during the game. You can only have one replay by the way... If you want to save multiple replays, you'll have to copy that replay from the User folder somewhere else before you make another one. And make sure to rename that replay to some relevant name or the next copy will overwrite if you use the same destination. There ya go!
  12. Hey, thanks alot UrbanOutlaw, I've already cut & pasted it and will look it over later.
  13. I see... I thought you might have meant something else. At any rate, since then I've gotten a bit more of a handle on how to use Txd Workshop and I did a 'DFF Check' on the Kart model. Turns out there are 3 textures missing . I tried to add these textures by putting images in them (and guessing at their sizes) and adding them to the .TXD but the damn grey square remains. So at this point I guess it's a lost cause!
  14. The Turismo doesn't have any place where it spawns that I've found. However, there are 2 places to find the car. The first is in Las Venturas where you can spot it being driven around on the streets. The second is on the import/export freighter where you can buy one and drive it away. You have to show up on a Monday and be willing to spend 76G to buy one though. It's easier to get one in LV where it's free and you can pick one in the color you want (which depends on how you've setup the car). Hope that helps!
  15. I'm trying to undo the changes to my 'weapon.dat' file that the Modern Army mod made to it and I need to know the original slot ID for all the weapons. I don't have a backup and I would rather fix the file than have to re-install the whole game so I'm trying to do it this way. I'm pretty sure the order should go something like: 0-Unarmed 1-Melee 2-Thrown 3-Pistol 4-Shotgun 5-Machine Gun 6-Assault Rifle 7-Sniper/Country Rifle 8-Heavy Weapon 9-Camera 10-Gift 11-Goggles 12-Detonator If someone could check their unaltered file for me that would be a major help.
  16. Thanks for looking into it... What did you mean by 'white area'?
  17. I can't answer specifically to your XBox version but it could be similar to the PC version. My guess is that if you have V2, it will say it in the bottom right corner of the Main Menu screen. If you have V1 on the PC, it says nothing. If you do, it shows 'V2.00'. Hope that helps!
  18. Here's a few minor secrets I've come across while playing the game... - If you return to Colonel Fuhrberger's house after the burglary with Ryder, he now has a small cannon on the floor pointing at the door. - It's possible to do a Stoppie that can last as long as you want... - You may have or heard or seen for yourself the Lemmings-like behavior of people off the roof of the Emerald Isle building where they jump off the roof. But did you know if you're positioned in just the right place, you can actually see the odd person jump UP to the roof before walking off again??? I'ts rare, but I've seen it a number of times. These are just a few of the smaller things I've noted. There are others that I haven't seen anyone else mention but I would rather upload the file I've created rather than spill them all here. If anyone's interested, I'll do that but not before!
  19. I made a new skin for the Kart and was trying it out in the game when I noticed something I hadn't before... At the rear of the side panels there was a blank grey square. Looking at the .txd file again, I saw one texture called 'kart924bit16'. It looked like it might be the one so I tried putting a pic of a number in it (since I figured this was what should show in this spot) but it still shows up blank. Has anyone come across this problem? Do I need to create an alpha for it or has someone found another solution? Or is it a lost cause?
  20. Here's something weird that happened to me while in the middle of a standoff with the boys in blue... I was in Los Santos near the docks where the storm channel ends above the water (it's midway between the two bridges leading to the area). I had already shot down about 12 choppers and they were scattered across the bottom. A bunch of cops had suicided into the water and were floating there. I decided to take a pic with the camera. After shooting the picture, all of the helicopters' main rotors started slowly turning! I thought it was a glitch of some sort so I turned around, walked a short distance away and looked again. They were still doing it and they kept on doing it all the while I was there. Imagine the sight of 12 choppers underwater spinning away! Now that's weird...
  21. Hello All, Although I'm new to the Net and this site, I've been a gamer since the days of the Commodore 64 & Amiga and a number of machines since then. Can anyone tell me how to use an image for a signature that I've created? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance... As my first contribution, I've put together an archive of 3 skins for the Elegy in San Andreas. Look for it in the appropriate area if all goes well. I'll have some other stuff later that should interest you too .
