It's a .com in the System32 folder, you can search for it in their or copy and paste this into run:c:\windows\system32\edit.com It isn't really that hidden, it's a legacy app MS added in most versions of Windows, for emergency purposes, like when your OS craps up because of a bad boot.ini file... Gerard
Just type "edit" into the command line (start, run, cmd) and you get it up.
Tornronim
By hidden I meant not in your startup folder lol and why didn't I think of trying edit on its own? oh well
Gerard
You mean not in your start menu? The startup folder is what starts up when you turn on your PC. Its not listed because Notepad does exactly the same stuff, but even better because it doesn't require using CMD. XP comes with Wordpad too, and of course Works and Word and everything else far surpass it. No point in using it unless you can't use anything else. Urbanoutlaw
I think edit is older than most of the people on this forum, I kinda remember it from DOS 5. Used Q-edit myself, shareware.
Tornronim
For some weird reason I have a thing for MS-DOS, so I kind of like MS-DOS edit and I'm constantly messing around with command prompt (but I'm still pretty bad at it). Urbanoutlaw
Now that I think of it, I still have a working copy of DOS 3.3 in my desk, on a 1.44 meg floppy. It even has a couple games. Literally a lifetime ago, but kinda nice to see people still messing w/ old school.

Maybe you should back up that floppy, you know, for posterity's sake (if the EULA allows)?
rockstarrem
You can actually download Windows 3.1 from Microsoft. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
Urbanoutlaw
They still support 3.1? Besides a few OOOLLLD games, what use is it? EDIT: Just looked at the link, it reads like this is an environment to rum 3.1 programs on newer systems. Maybe some of the tech guys would know for sure. Back to topic. Huckleberry Pie
You can actually download Windows 3.1 from Microsoft. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en Correction - it's Windows Installer 3.1, not Windows 3.1; the one that you mentioned is actually an API or some utility from MS to manage certain Windows installer/setup programs that support the Windows Installer platform.
