Hidden(I think) MS-DOS program

I found this deep in the WINDOWS folder, well kind of. It's a .com in the System32 folder, you can search for it in their or copy and paste this into run:

c:\windows\system32\edit.com

msdoseditscreensr3.th.jpg

It isn't really that hidden, it's a legacy app MS added in most versions of Windows, for emergency purposes, like when your OS craps up because of a bad boot.ini file...

You mean not in your start menu? The startup folder is what starts up when you turn on your PC.

Its not listed because Notepad does exactly the same stuff, but even better because it doesn't require using CMD. XP comes with Wordpad too, and of course Works and Word and everything else far surpass it. No point in using it unless you can't use anything else.

You can actually download Windows 3.1 from Microsoft.

Correction - it's Windows Installer 3.1, not Windows 3.1; the one that you mentioned is actually an API or some utility from MS to manage certain Windows installer/setup programs that support the Windows Installer platform.
