The official Games for Windows website has added a page for GTA IV. On it they've included the recommended system requirements for the game, no minimum specs have been included though so we may have to take this with a pinch of salt for the time being. Here's what they're suggesting:
OS: Windows XP SP2Processor: Dual core processor (Intel Pentium D or better)
RAM: 2GB
Hard Drive: 18GB free hard disk space
Video Card: 512MB Direct3D 10 compatible video card or Direct3D 9 card compatible with Shader
Drive: DVD-ROM dual-layer drive
Not sure if your computer is up to the task? For some weeks now we've had a thread on the forums for just that. Will my PC run GTA IV? Here you can post your specs and read our own best estimations at the specs, and some of our more knowledgeable members will do their best to advise on any upgrades we think you may need.
Thanks GTAGaming.
EDIT: The information appears to have been removed from the Games for Windows site. The reason for this is currently unknown.
I'm screwed. I was hoping to get a nice laptop for schoolwork for my birthday or Christmas but now it looks like I'll need something a little better. 18GB is just way too much, Crysis was only 12 or something. Now we wait for the minimum requirements.
This sucks, I don't meet them by a longshot (and really didn't expect to, but there was at least an ounce of hope in me). I'm going to wait it out and make sure there is some good modding support before I actually decide whether or not I want to upgrade my PC.
By the way there are two new screenshots on there as well

That's kinda' hefty... I think another stick of RAM and a better video card (7600 or something) would do...
This is great to know, because that confirms my hypothesis that my PC will explode if I try to play GTAIV on it.
Crysis is 6.89 GB.
They better have some high-res textures.
RAM schould be fine for XP. Vista will need 3 GB though, I think...
And their CPU and Graphic Card specifications mean practically jack if you ask me.
But sounds pretty reasonable, with exception of the HDD space needed, but I don't care about that, just justifies buying that 1TB HDD I wanted and hopefully means they won't have those blurry textures this time 'round.

blurry textures, what version r u playing i didnt notice any blurry textures, except on the ps3 stuff about 10 ft away looked blurry
A but vague for my liking, but I meet / exceed every req. so.. no worries
Hot damn this is gonna be fun.
I concur.
@Chris (either of you).. there's actually a couple new screenies on the games for windows site... so, yeah...
Just need to upgrade the graphics card and I'll be golden
Was planning on doing that anyway!
<--- Excited.

theres the GPU I'll be getting
How can XP SP2 be recommended if it does not support DX10?
OS: Windows XP SP2 -Check
Processor: Dual core processor (Intel Pentium D or better) -I have AMD Athlon 64 3500+ ~2.2ghz, is this fine?
RAM: 2GB - I have 1.5GB
Hard Drive: 18GB free hard disk space - I don't think it will be actual size, real size will be like 5-8GB.
Video Card: 512MB Direct3D 10 compatible video card or Direct3D 9 card compatible with Shader - What is Shader? Like Shader Model 3 or something? If so I gotta get new video card.
Hah!
My new PC will handle this, yay!
Whos deleting my post again and again???
U gtaplace guys are being insulted for posting wrong information on front page without 100% confirmation... shame on u guys.... aaah this forum sux m outa here...
Firstly, you posted in CAPS, which is ugly and stupid, then... you posted info that everyone has posted before, in caps.
Then, you basically told admins to take it off the front page.. they'll do it when and if they want to, not on your whim.
And at the time of posting, the GFW site still had the info, now that's developed, the admins will choose to edit it, or remove it. When they choose to, not when you, me, Jesus, or anyone else says they have to.

Caps? i copy pasted that Caps thing from GFW website, if they wrote on caps then wat i can do? email them and request them not to write anything in caps?

You could acknowledge you're spamming by posting shit we all already know, and not post at all.

To put it simply, don't order us staff around. We do it when we want to and if you can't accept the fact that it's not gone, then go. I'm guessing other sites have kept it up as well, so we don't really need to remove it, do we? It could come useful for future references...
Getting back on topic: Well, since there is some sort of specs here, I could get something higher than that.
Look at the admin of this Website... A MALE, with a FEMALE Display pic LMAO ROFL LOL !

LMAO ROFL.... he's straight?
Aww, I need another gig of RAM and it ihnk if i wanted gta4 on my pc i should make more room cuz itd be in the super lagg zone.
Too bad... i also wanna know how to get another gig of RAM in a laptop, but itd expire my warranty.
@Farhan:Uhm... Your point is? Your laughing your ass off about a guy being straight? Well thats smart...
you can put another gb of ram in your laptop, laptop uses so-dimm usually, you just have to find out if its ddr or ddr2
it'd be abit harder than for a desktop of course, and yes it will make your warranty invalid, so check with the manufacturer, maybe you can send it to them to have 1gb added, and you keep your warranty
lol farhan do you ever think before you click post?
Age of Conan requires about 34-36gb to run smoothly, So sooner or later you guys with the tiny HDD's will have to upgrade to play future games.
That's the best you could come up with? LOL SU<K /\/\Y B/\LL$Look at the admin of this Website... A MALE, with a FEMALE Display pic LMAO ROFL LOL !

hmmm my first question... WTF is a ddr? lol srry i dont have a 2nd
oh well i mine aswell give up i didnt rrly plan on buying it for PC lol i was just checking. I guees ill wait until xmas.
ddr is double data rate, just a type of ram. ddr2 is a newer version of it..basically to figure it out, when did you buy your laptop, that will probably help determine whether its DDR or DDR2. i got mine in xmas 2006, it has DDR2 667MHz , when did you get yours?
OK, simplified.
For at least 6 years now we've got the so called "DDR" memory. Might even be longer, no idea, but for this it doesn't matter anyway.
So, just assume all memory (RAM) is called DDR x. x will be the number for the version. Newest is DDR 3, but you don't need that. Only benchmarks really show the big difference, for gaming you're fine with high-end DDR2 (low end too BTW). High-end DDR2 costs less than DDR3 low, so just forget about DDR3.
Well, each has their own DIMM slots. Mem banks. Those things you can put your RAM in. With their own I mean, each version has a slightly different DIMM.
6 DIMMS here. It's probably a nehalem board or something. If you don't know what that is, it doesn't matter. You probably have 4 slots. I don't think you'll have more then that. You'd know it if you did (since it's something pretty special).
Soo... DDR2 doesn't fit in DDR3 slots. Your mobo is built for a specific version of DDR, you'll need to get that type of RAM. I think CPU-Z can show you which "version" you are using. Just google it.
Disconnect your computer once and open the case up. Look around and compare it with pictures on the web. Upgrading RAM is very, very easy. It's much easier than you'd imagine it to be. For me it is something like a 2 minute job. For a normal case I don't think it's going to take longer than 10 minutes. 15 being the absolute max. Just press the RAM strip into the slot. That's all. Very, very easy.
But what are your specs? If you've got a slow CPU or GPU, the extra RAM isn't really going to help.
^ good explanation. but uhh
the thing is, he has a laptop, so its not as simple as checking if you have ddr ram on a desktop, since desktop you just take off one side of the case, but laptop would be a whole lot harder i would imagine...
i doubt he would have DDR3, is that even in laptops yet?
Too bad I only have an Asus Nvidia 7300LE, like this one:
Runs on low FPS with the ENBSeries mod activated and when driving custom cars @ 640x480. Any cheap but cool cards that I can use?

I'm getting one of these Huck. Wont have to upgrade for a long while after this, worth the money.
Also depends on what kind of slot you have.

I have a PCI Express slot... And I don't think I can buy that card yet...
Laptop.. Well, CPU-Z will tell. But not every laptop can get it's RAM upgraded.
And yeah, if you're not some fanboy that hangs to nVidia, then you should get that HD4870.
If you're on a smaller budget, then HD4850. You won't regret it. And it's a pretty cheap card. High-end like for a midrange price.
I'm waiting for nVidia's GT200b, which should become the new GTX 280. It it's fast enough I'll get it. Or I'll wait a bit longer, for when I switch to Nehalem and then go SLI (as X38 doesn't support SLI, but CF).
Meh, prob get that GTX 280 and skip Nehalem wand get Westmere (or what ever its called).
