  1. Sorry but this seems rather gimmicky. In the past we've had similar systems involving forum points or whatever with various GTA related items you can buy as a kind of status symbol. It doesn't bring "huge benefits" as you say - It tends to encourage spam among people who actually care about fake internet points, and everyone else just doesn't care. We'd rather have people posting here because they enjoy doing so and find the content useful and informative, and ideally have something worthwhile to contribute back themselves.

Rockstar have today revealed a little more about the multiplayer aspect of their upcoming blockbuster sequel Max Payne 3. One of the big new features in multiplayer is the introduction of Crews. Rockstar's Dan Houser recently sat down with IGN to talk about this new feature.

Crews go beyond traditional online clans by allowing players to join large public Crews or simply create a private Crew that members can customize. In this way, Crews help players keep the fight alive from match to match - and even across titles - through the Rockstar Games Social Club, which will keep track of Crew stats, including Feuds (more info on that below).

IPB ImageI bolded the important part there, across titles. Yep, that means Crews you create in Max Payne 3 will be usable in other R* games, including Grand Theft Auto V. Below is a larger excerpt from the interview which explains in more detail how Crews will work, and how they will carry over to future titles:

How will Crews be able to interact?

One major way will be with Feuds. In multiplayer games we have a feature called Vendettas – if someone kills you twice, you can initiate a vendetta against them, which lets everyone know that you're out to get that person. For you, a special X marks their blip when they're visible to you on the map. If you take that person down, you get extra XP. If they survive your vendetta though, they get that XP.

Crew Feuds are essentially Crew Vendettas: impromptu skirmishes between crews that can spring up in multiplayer matches that quickly spawn a first-to-10-kills battle. You can be playing any team-based game with a completely new set of players, but if you spot two or more members of a crew you're feuding with on the opposite team, any kills you get against them will count to the overall feud so rivalries will spring up automatically - and when they do, you'll be notified and the grudge will come to the forefront of the game.

We'll track who you're feuding with, how long you've been feuding, and who's winning. You'll get extra XP for taking down members of crews you're feuding with, so you'll be able to remember those grudges for future matches. Again, we want to create more drama out of the interactions that go down in typical multiplayer matches.

And the beauty of this system is that crews persist over time and across future games. Multiplayer is an ever-more important part of all our games moving forward, and by creating crews through Social Club the crews that you create in Max Payne 3 will be ready and available for you to play in Grand Theft Auto V from day one. It's all part of our larger approach to make multiplayer deeper and richer than what's currently available, much more easily accessible to the newcomer and rewarding for the hardcore.

Will the spirit behind Crews and Gang Wars – multiplayer with a user-generated narrative – appear in other Rockstar's forthcoming games?

We made a promise not to talk too much about forthcoming games until a little further down the track but, yes, crews will feature in Grand Theft Auto V multiplayer. We are firm believers in the potential of third-person multiplayer and the attachment it can create to character, stories and worlds. This is at the heart of what we're doing with Crews, and we think it opens up limitless new possibilities for the future. It's right at the heart of our goal to bring greater weight and context to multiplayer games while still staying true to what competitive multiplayer does so well.

You can read the full interview over at IGN.

  3. McAfee is a load of shit. Thanks for bringing this to my attention though. But as Gerard said they're all false positives, nothing to worry about.

Showing just how outdated and obsolete McAfee is, you can see they think we are located in the US. We are not, and have not been for about 5 years now. The file checks all seem to be several years old, I can't believe they use such old data like this, especially given what a tiny percentage of total files this represents.

  4. That's actually the ad pushing the width out. I actually had no idea Android worked on such low resolution devices. In fact I wasn't even aware they were still made lol. I'll see if I can do anything but really I think there will be more problems with the content at such a small resolution, can't really do anything about that without compromising the site for other users too much.

  5. 1. restricted is for members who have repeatedly broken rules but not done anything serious enough for us to warrant (or care, for that matter) banning them. They lose most privileges and any posts they make must first be approved by a staff member before they are shown on the forum. Site admin is a now defunct group in which a few members were placed to distinguish them from forum staff. Site admins would write news and/or content for the website but not handle any moderation tasks on the forums.

    2. It's your rating. If you go to other users' profiles you'll see these stars and if you hover over them (and click) you'll add to their rating. Nobody cares about this, few use it.

    3. It's your reputation. IPB 3.0 introduced a reputation feature whereby you could upvote or downvote users' posts rather like you would on sites like Reddit. In 3.1 the default behaviour changed to something more similar to Facebook where you can simply choose to Like a post (in the bottom right corner of every post). This adds 1 to your reputation. If you get it high enough you will see ranks other than "Neutral".

  6. IPB ImageRockstar have released a minor update to GTA III: 10th Anniversary Edition for iOS. The update is said to offer stability improvements thanks to some optimised memory usage, noticeable when running on the iPad 1 and iPhone 4. It also includes "various bug fixes", although Rockstar have chosen not to elaborate on what exactly has been fixed. Let us know in the comments if this fixes problems you were having with the game on your device!

Check for updates to your apps on your device or through iTunes to download.

  7. It shouldn't scare you.

It exists so we have a way to tell members when they have done wrong, and so that they (and the moderators) can see this.

It can, but we only decrease it in case of when it's been wrongly increased.

Yes, although usually if your behaviour on the forum is that bad you'll probably get banned before it reaches 100%

As I said above, we only decrease in the event a moderator accidentally increases it. This is very rare and usually down either to mistaken identity or simply by clicking on on the wrong person and not realising. It serves as a record of your past behaviour on the forums and may be taken into account regarding future decisions (such as additional warnings).

  8. Yes, we think what we have is sufficient at the moment. Somewhat ironically we don't have that large a modding community here, in terms of content creators, so having 6 dedicated sections like that would split up the content too much. Of course if things change we'll take these suggestions into consideration again.

  9. LOL. Wow you really don't get sarcasm do you? You don't realise what you are saying?

Can't you see how obvious it is that Max Payne 3 will definitely 100% be released before GTA V? Of course it will be. There is no other possibility. As you just pointed out, GTA V has no release date yet and MP3 has been in development for far longer. I don't understand why you are using phrases like "most likely" - implying there is a chance Rockstar might suddenly stop developing GTA V and just release it right now, no marketing, no advertising, nothing. No, that wouldn't ever happen.

Also stop replying to Russian spam bots topics with posts like "spammer". This just contributes to the spam and makes it more visible. Just report it like everyone else.

    Fuck. I need a drink.

  10. The following is an excerpt from Rockstar Games' latest Q&A on the Newswire:

"When will we know more about #GTAV" - Fash08 (via Twitter)

"When's the release date for GTA5" - Akiieran (via Twitter)

"Can we expect a 2nd trailer this year for GTAV?" - mats hoi

"Any more news about GTAV on the way, I can't wait!!!!" - mattoneill1991 (via Twitter)

First of all, we'd like to again thank you and everyone out there for the amazing response to the debut Grand Theft Auto V trailer. We know that there are a ton of questions you all have about the game, including release date and lots else.

Right now, we are very hard at work on the game and are excited as well to show and tell you more as development progresses - expect that we'll be talking much more about GTAV starting at some point in a few months' time.

Please hang tight until then and thank you all for your patience and support!

"Rockstar, I really can't wait for new information about the new GTA. And is it only in Los Santos or too in SF and LV?" - MatsvanStam

As we revealed in our announcement about the game being officially in full development, Grand Theft Auto V is set in the city of Los Santos and its surrounding hills, countryside and beaches – and it will be the largest and most ambitious open world game we've ever created…

Some of you will probably be disappointed to hear that Rockstar are going to be quiet on the GTA V front for another few months. But it makes perfect sense. Rockstar will be using the time between now and the end of May to promote Max Payne 3. As soon as that's released Rockstar can dive straight back into GTA mode and feed our ferocious appetites.

One more thing, with this information we can finally lay the tired old 2405 theory to bed. Hooray!

As for the second question, Rockstar once again confirm that GTA V is set just in Los Santos, but will include "surrounding hills, countryside and beaches." A fairly popular theory at the moment is that Rockstar could release additional cities as DLC, although the feasibility of this is somewhat questionable, not least because of their size. There were no questions or comments on that aspect of it, so theories regarding this are still up in the air for now.

If you've got any thoughts on the game feel free to discuss them with others in our forums.

  11. IPB ImageThe beginning of another month brings about the beginning of something new here at The GTA Place; the launch of our dedicated mobile website.

If you've ever tried to browse The GTA Place on your phone or any other mobile device you'll have realised just how cumbersome and slow it was; large images, small links, and a hell of a lot of scrolling, not to mention data usage. With TGTAP's new mobile website you no longer have to worry about any of that. We've stripped away all the big images, removed unnecessary JavaScript, and tailored everything to fit perfectly on smaller screens, with no horizontal scrolling! In fact, pages on our mobile site could theoretically load up to 15 times quicker than the desktop site, this is especially good news for those of you who experience slower connections or who have limited data usage.

We've seen a huge increase in mobile traffic over the last 3 months, and over 25,000 of you now browse the site from your mobile devices every month. We think a lot of you will be pleased about this development. The website has been tested on many different devices and smartphones including iPhones, Android phones, BlackBerrys, and Windows Phone. It's will even work on many old WAP-enabled "dumbphones". If you want to see it in action on your device, just head on over to m.thegtaplace.com. Or just go to the normal site, you'll be redirected automatically but we don't force this, you'll always have the option to go back to the full desktop website if you wish.

If you spot any bugs or want to suggest any improvements we can make, let us know in the comments. If it's a bug you're reporting please let us know your device and browser so we can look into it in more detail.
