  1. Just a quick update to let everyone know I've moved all of our news subforums (the forums where we post GTA news in that appears on the homepage). Each news forum has been put in its respective GTA forum. So we're now posting all our GTA V news in the GTA V forum, and so on for each game in the series.

Couple of reasons for doing this:

    1. More logical to keep topics related to each game all in one area, rather than having news and game discussion in separate places.
    2. The forum homepage looks a bit cluttered and possibly intimidating especially for new users. This will reduce the number of forums visible and it now should be more obvious where to find all topics for each game.

In addition, the Suggestions / Help forum has been moved to the bottom of the page. This has been done to discourage new members from asking GTA help in there, and the fact it doesn't really need to appear in a prominent place.

Do let us know if you have anything to say regarding these small changes.

    Upcoming Changes

Even with these changes, the forum homepage is still looking pretty cluttered and very text heavy. I'm currently experimenting with a new layout for this page and we'll make this publicly available for testing when we're ready, your feedback will be useful. A new topic will be posted here in the announcements forum when we're ready to test that.

Excitement for GTA V is getting a lot higher now and it's great to see more of you posting and commenting on all the news recently. Don't forget you can follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ if you prefer to stay up to date that way. And by the way, we'll be holding some competitions to win a copy of GTA V soon, so there are additional benefits to following us elsewhere on the web ;)

  2. Ahead of their exclusive review, Game Informer have posted high-res versions of a couple of the new artworks we've been seeing from in-store promotional displays. One shows the hispanic man from the trailer holding a dog called "Chop", while the other shows a female police officer arresting a lady whose wearing a Love Fist t-shirt. Love Fist were a fictional metal band that featured in Vice City for those of you who can't remember that far back! Check them out below.

We've also updated our artwork page with these.

Having trouble keeping up with all the news? Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ for updates!

  3. As GTA V becomes available for pre-order in just a few days (5th November), many stores across the world have received promotional materials for the game to hand out to customers. It seems some lucky people have managed to get their hands on some a little early.

The main item currently getting a lot of attention is a small photo viewer that when looked through shows various locations, in fact, in a style not too dissimilar to the Vice City postcards some of you may have seen back in 2002. Various photos are being posted by members in a GTAForums thread, here are some pictures of the images inside it.

These items are supposedly being given out on a first-come first-served basis to customers who preorder the game from stores across North America (no reports yet from anything elsewhere in the world).

UPDATE: Here's a couple more pictures:

  4. Rockstar have officially announced the Spring 2013 release period for Grand Theft Auto V. A new artwork was also released.

    actual_1351545051.jpg

Today, we're proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto V is expected to launch worldwide spring 2013 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Developed by series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto V takes place in a re-imagined, present-day Southern California in the largest and most thriving game-world we have ever created set in the sprawling city of Los Santos and for miles beyond – from the tops of the mountains to the depths of the ocean.

Starting next week November 5, 2012, Grand Theft Auto V will become available for pre-order everywhere and fans can expect a host of new information to become available in November.

  5. UK retailer GAME this morning tweeted confirmation of GTAV's Spring 2013 release date (which we posted about a few days ago) via one of its local Twitter feeds for a store in Brighton. The tweet encouraged users to pre-order GTA V and contained a photo of 3 different box art designs, two of which feature brand new artworks. The tweet has since been deleted, but of course people had already saved it. You can check out the photo of the artworks below (click for the full size image).

  6. IPB ImageThe Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), responsible for assigning ratings to video games in North America, has now rated GTA: San Andreas for the PS3. Back in June, ratings were spotted for PS3 versions of both GTA III and Vice City, since then only GTA III has been released. This rating of San Andreas practically confirms existence of the game, and one would assume that both this and Vice City will be released in the near future, with Vice City logically arriving first, possibly alongside its release for iOS and Android.

For anyone who wasn't following the news, the games are being released on the PSN Store as "PS2 Classics". What this means is they are direct ports of the original PS2 versions, and thus they unfortunately don't benefit from any remastered HD graphics or the addition of any trophies. That said, this is still great news for anyone who wants to play the games again and no longer has their original PS2 copies, or for those of you who are new to the franchise and perhaps never played these truly classic games.

GTA3 is available on the PSN Store right now for just $9.99. There is currently no word on release dates for either Vice City or San Andreas, but we'll let you know whenever Rockstar or Sony give us an official announcement regarding these.

  7. A photo of a promotional poster for GTA V allegedly taken by an employee of a store in London has found its way into the hands GTA fans today. The poster features the new "Pest Control" artwork which was released the other day, as well as a brand new piece of artwork depicting a character with a dog on a chain. Please excuse the obnoxious watermark added by another fansite, we don't have the original photo at this time.

Another photo with a close up of the the board shows "Pre-order now - Spring 2013", putting the release date between March and June next year. It's also worth noting that the promo only shows the Xbox 360 and PS3 logos, leading us to the unsurprising conclusion that Rockstar will once again release a PC version later on in the year.

While most "leaks" are in fact not leaks and simply faked items of media or information that we don't bother posting about, this one does not appear to be fake. It does look pretty legit, and given the fact that we're expecting a lot of new info very shortly, the timing of this makes sense. One would expect to see promo pieces like this up in stores in the coming weeks, and we imagine an official announcement on release timing will be forthcoming from Rockstar themselves some time very soon.

Game Informer's editor-in-chief, Andy McNamara, has just announced the release schedule for December's Grand Theft Auto V issue on the magazine's website.

In the morning of November 8 (US Central time), Game Informer will reveal the cover art and give a break down of the issue. McNamara says that the story is huge - over 18 pages in print - and full of details and screens. Following this in the afternoon (US Central time), they will release the digital edition of Game Informer to iPad, 10-inch Android devices, and PC/Mac (individual issues cost $4.99 - the app itself is free). Those of you who actually subscribe to the print issue; that will already be in the mail and should arrive to you in the weeks that follow. The magazine will be on newsstands from the 16th November.

For those of you who aren't able to get hold of the magazine, don't worry, we'll have a full summary of all the new screenshots and information right here on the homepage, as soon after release as possible.

As we speculated in the months gone by, Rockstar will be releasing a 10th Anniversary Edition of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for iOS and select Android devices this fall!

Building on the success of the groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto III in 2001, the release of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on October 29, 2002 pushed the open world game series deeper into popular culture with a vibrant over-the-top take on Miami, a stunning celebrity voice cast and a loving, satirical look at the cultural excesses of the ‘80s.

To celebrate, Rockstar will be releasing a series of commemorative assets including artwork and a new trailer depicting the most iconic scenes and music from the game, in addition to some highly collectible merchandise via the Rockstar Warehouse.

More details on the upcoming release for iOS and Android will be available in the next few weeks. The game will bring the "full experience to mobile devices, featuring native high-resolution graphics and several enhancements unique to the iOS and Android platforms."

  10. Rockstar have just released the first official GTA V artwork, featuring a scene from last year's debut trailer titled "Pest Control". Rockstar also promised "lots of info coming next month", some of which we know will be coming from Game Informer's exclusive preview

You can grab the artwork in various sizes for your devices from the official website.

Rockstar have confirmed that the rumoured Rockstar Games Collection is indeed real, and will be going on sale in North America on 6th November, for PS3 and Xbox 360. The exclusive collection will retail for $59.99 and includes Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, L.A. Noire, and Midnight Club: Los Angeles Complete Edition.

Comments by Rockstar on the newswire posting seem to confirm that the company has no plans to release this collection outside of North America, but they say to "stay tuned" regarding the possibility of other bundles. The '1' in the title of this release seems to imply there will be more to follow. There is no word on whether or not a PC version will ever be made.

While many of you reading this will no doubt own one or more or perhaps all of these games already, there will be many people who still don't, so be sure to let them know of this great deal.

  12. Game Informer logo

Game Informer's editor-in-chief Andy McNamara has just confirmed via Twitter that GTA V will be the magazine's December cover story. We imagine this issue will be out in early November.

Hopefully this will satisfy the rabid collection of drooling angsty teenagers the GTA community has now become!

  13. BF is shit just for single player. CoD would be better since you've got the Spec Ops stuff in addition to the single player campaign.

Speaking of spec ops, the game Spec Ops The Line might interest you.

  14. Can't tell if the guy in the video is trying to troll people or is just an absolute cretin. Well, he is a massive cretin either way. And you're also an idiot for posting the link to the video. I'm going to leave this topic here so everyone can see that.

Serious point: anyone believing things they hear people discuss in YouTube videos about GTA V is a moron. The only true information is that which comes directly from R*, which we would of course relay to you here on TGTAP.

  15. Yeah I think sending out an email to 50000 people isn't really a good idea. Most people won't bother to read it, some will see it as spam. Probably end up doing more harm than good.

What Jace said is right. Forums in general are way less popular than they used to be. Internet culture has changed a lot in the past few years. I used to be active on quite a few forums years ago that were relevant to my interests at the time. Now, TGTAP is the only one I still visit (obviously) and actually care about. If I care enough to comment on something else that interests me I'll take it to Twitter and/or Facebook where I know I have friends who will comment or be interested in it themselves. I wouldn't even think to look for a forum to join on whatever subject it was about.

BlackListedB, we (and other GTA sites) have experimented with the idea of branded merchandise and apparel but too few people are interested in buying and using/wearing stuff to make it worthwhile, so no one really bothered with it. I think these days it would be even worse actually. People expect that kinda stuff to be given out for free since it so regularly is by internet companies, that's not really something we can afford to do.

SlickVic, first of all, we and other sites know from experience that re-designs never really do much to increase activity unless you bring in a load of new features to the site at the same time. The GTA related stuff you mentioned would be cool but it's a bit of a catch-22 because we would need enough members here in the first place to get it going so that other users would see it, and think to themselves that it's cool or whatever and wanna join in. When you do that kinda thing with just a few members, anyone observing is unlikely to be interested. Having said that, if you or anyone is genuinely interested in getting a 'gang' together to play those games then by all means go for it, there's nothing stopping you. If it's something that does begin to show signs of getting popular we can try and promote it around other parts of the forum so more members see it, or even on the main site as well.

Contests and stuff are always good. In fact we will be holding a competition for members to win a copy of GTA V. We're planning to start it when the release date is announced though so we can organise it within a specific time frame. Our intentions are to have a couple of winners from our Facebook and Twitter pages in addition to one (or maybe more, depending on my budget at the time) from the forums. If anyone has any ideas on what exactly the contest should be then let us know.

We know that activity is going to increase whenever more GTA V information and media comes forth, that's pretty much a given. The challenge is making the members want to stay even when interest dies down.

With the crews feature that will be in GTA V and presumably (and hopefully) massively improved multiplayer modes, I think we can definitely make the forums a place for crews to organise themselves and when they are gonna play together online, since the Social Club doesn't really have a way for people to adequately plan and discuss what they want to do.

This could also lead to an increased interest in legacy titles like SAMP and MTA with players who don't buy GTA V immediately. So we'll see how that goes.

  16. He was Harwood Butcher wasn't he?

Yeah that was his last username here.

I'm willing to give most people a second chance, but there are no third chances.

    You, uh, sure about that?

Um... which part? I think the "most" qualifies the first part, if you meant that part about third chances... well... heavily dependent on the person and how I view them.

BTW was that the infamous MGilb or whatever his name is, that you're talking about. Posting pics of his cock and stuff. And what else was it just random porn and gore or shit like that? Heh... wonder what happened to him...

  17. IPB ImageBack in July we reported on Grand Theft Auto III coming to the PSN store as a PS2 classic. That release got pushed back due to some licensing issues around certain music in the game, however, the US PlayStation Blog has confirmed today that GTA III will finally be arriving on the US PSN store tomorrow, 25th September, and will set you back $9.99. Currently there's no word on availability or pricing in other regions; Europe, Asia and elsewhere may also see it tomorrow, or we may have to wait another week or so.

Having said that, last week PlayStation Asia had a page up on their site for GTA III which did specify the 25th September release date for that region as well, but the page was later taken offline. The fact this was even published could indicate a worldwide release was planned, or could have simply been some misinformation that was mistakenly put online.

As we mentioned before, GTA III is being released as a PS2 classic - a direct, no-frills port of the original PS2 version. Unfortunately this means no remastered HD graphics, and no trophies, but hopefully the lack of such additions won't put you off replaying this amazing game.

Some of you may now be wondering if Vice City and San Andreas will also be re-released on the PS3. Back in June, ESRB ratings were spotted for both GTA III and Vice City, but so far only GTA III has been talked about. It's worth pointing out that the 10 year anniversary of Vice City is coming up in just over a month, so it's plausible that Rockstar may re-release the game then to coincide with that. As a sidenote, there's been absolutely no talk of a mobile version of Vice City for iOS and Android coming out for it's 10th anniversary à la GTA III's last year. As for San Andreas on PS3, there's been no talk of that either.

Let us know in the comments if you plan on getting this game again, and if you do, get ready for a lot of nostalgia.

  18. Does anyone else see the irony in how every time one of these topics get posted it actually gets a decent amount of responses? Lol.

OGTAM was banned years ago for constantly disrespecting staff. Actually it wasn't constant, but he did it enough times to get noticed by pretty much every moderator at that time, and after enough times we simply decided to ban him. If he came back now I'd let him back. People change a lot over the years. I'd give him a second chance, if I saw no change then obviously I'd just ban again. I'm willing to give most people a second chance, but there are no third chances.

As Llama said, most of us would love to spend a lot more time here but we simply don't have as much time to do so as we did before. I think ALL of old members are now of the age where they have full-time jobs or are busy getting educated etc. And as these members moved on and spent less time here, we, for a variety of reasons, weren't able to keep up the activity by enticing new members to join, so there were no replacements and activity died down to what it is today.

GTA V will increase activity no doubt about it, we'll have to work at enticing everyone to stay here. Needs an effort on everyone's part though. People make the community, not what features we do or don't have.
