  1. Outside of the missions, what types of characters wield AK47s?
  2. Media magnate, owner of Love Media. Guys, come on, that's just way too simple.
  3. Okay... In what two locations can the Speeder be found?
  4. Portland Harbor, Portland Pike Creek, Shoreside Vale
  5. This. GTA III's Liberty City is my favourite, for a number of reasons. First, it's atmosphere. It's very dark, violent, seedy and corrupt. With petty criminals and prostitutes roaming the streets, dangerous gangs and insanely vicious police (GTA III's LCPD are by far the most potent police force in the series, especially four stars and up. Get caught off-guard in the open by only one squad of FBI agents and you'll be on the ground in seconds, even if you have full armor and health) The weather is suitably dark also. The days are fairly short and rain and fog are frequent. Even when it's sunny, the city has a suitably cold hue about it. Second, the geography. Each borough is so different. Firstly there's Portland, with mazes of side-streets and back alleys... the unique atmospheres of Chinatown and Saint Mark's, light and heavy industry, the harbor, waterfront... with the el-train roaring overhead all the while. Then there's Staunton Island, with huge skyscrapers, expensive cars, condominiums, a huge stadium, the park, overpasses and tunnels, lots of commerce, the building site, the casino... It's such an epic feeling entering Staunton for the first time, crusing around, staring up at the tall buildings. Finally there's Shoreside Vale with the huge airport, an industrial estate, upper and lower class residential areas. Shoreside, in comparison to the others, is mountainous, with huge elevation changes, overlapping roads, bridges and tunnels, the Cochrane Dam, the observatory up on the hill... This is a small point, but I prefer Liberty City's roads to most of the other cities in the series. They're (for the most part, excluding Shoreside) often multi-laned and usually arranged in a tidy grid pattern, making navigation easy. Vice City's roads, by comparison, are all over the place, are usually only two-lane making it harder to overtake, and weave to and fro in awkward patterns. San Fierro is probably the next best when it comes to this. Finally, Liberty is the most significant city in the series, by far. Every single plot in the GTA III trilogy is grounded in Liberty City. (with the possible exception of Vice City Stories)
  6. Listening to: Leftfield - Song of Life Walking through the park on a cold windy day, listening to this... it's an amazing feeling.
  7. Bump. This is a good question, and I'd also like an answer. This would be especially useful for the mp3 station, because some mp3s are quieter than others.
  8. Here's one thing that's always annoyed me about GTA3. It's rampant inflation. Seriously, money mustn't be worth much if Luigi is willing to pay you $2000 to drive two blocks, pick someone up, and bring them back. You get huge bonuses for even the most menial tasks, and there's nothing to do with all that money besides buy weapons, and once you find all the hidden packages even that's no longer a concern. Not to mention GTA3 still has traces of a gamey points system from the earlier GTAs. You actually get cash bonuses for colliding with other cars. Unless Claude has some kind of fraudulent insurance claims scheme going on, I don't know how they'd justify that.
  9. It means Release Candidate, which is basically the "almost, but not quite final" stage in the software release cycle.
  10. The Boxville is my favourite. ... JUST KIDDING. I'd say my favourite car is the Admiral, I just really like it's looks, durability, practicality and able peformance. A lot of the sportscars are too twitchy for my liking.
  11. Hip hop is one music style. But really, that's good advice. There is so much variety in music out there, you will find something different that you like if you take the time to look. I'd saw my fingers off before I'd limit myself to one genre. Use a website like Last.fm to discover new music. You can listen to random genres that you're not familar with on the radio to see what they're like, or even get personal recommendations from members of groups like the Music Advice Center. Anyway, I'm listening to: Siouxsie and the Banshees - Cities in Dust
  12. Don't forget these: Co-pilot: "I'm out of bullets!" Pilot: "Don't worry, I brought extra!" Co-pilot: "Why do I have to do all of the shooting?" Pilot: "Because I'm a pacifist! Kill him!" And my favourite: Co-pilot: "Heeey, I can see my house from here!" Pilot: "Will you shut the hell up?" But yeah, I'll stop going off topic.
  13. The LCPD from GTA3. They may be horrible drivers, but they're still the most dangerous coppers in the series. Plus, LCPD helicopter crews have the best dialogue. Co-pilot: "PREPARE - TO DIE!" Pilot: "Hey, that's against regulations!" Co-pilot: "We are definitely going to KILL YOU!" Pilot: "You can't say that, it's not in the book!" Co-pilot: "Have you read the manual for this thing?" Co-pilot: "I prefer moving targets!" Pilot: "You oughtta get some help, man." Co-pilot: "YOU - ARE - DEAD!" *feedback* Pilot: "TURN THAT THING OFF!" Co-pilot: "YOU WANT A LEAD SALAD?"
  14. Three points: I'm not sure what the meaning behind the above sentence is. You never could fix the ambulance... Also, you probably should include some mention of the fact that the mission is instantly failed if the player leaves the vehicle, just for the sake of completeness. Finally, you should probably include some mention of the Air Ambulance's role in this mission (unless that's considered to be a seperate side mission, I'm not sure) Great guide, though.
  15. You could have done to outline a few additional tactics besides *drive-by shoot them*, like performing the P.I.T. manuever (if you do it properly the criminals often don't even try to recover, exit the car and try to escape on foot) or setting up roadblocks (A good strategy in cases where you know where the criminal is going and can cut them off, like on that one way road looping around Kenji's Casino), but I'm just nitpicking. Otherwise, this guide is flawless. Nice job!
  16. My favourite Grand Theft Auto game: GTA3. I believe that GTA:VC is the best and most balanced game in the series, but I still have a preference GTA3 for its atmosphere, its very memorable locale, and its solid storyline (a silent protaganist looking for revenge, sure it's a simple concept, but it's pulled off REALLY well in GTA3), and also for the fact that GTA3 was the biggest step the series ever took; GTA3 was truly revolutionary. It's the game that made the series what it is today, and every subsequent game has built on GTA3's success. GTA:SA is a great game, but it just doesn't top the others in my opinion, even with all it's features. It just doesn't feel as genuine and solid as the others. With all the different mini-games and missions and gangs and the (pretty ridiculous, really) storyline, the game feels... unfocused. San Andreas is vast, but it's like a chaotic amalgamation of all sorts of conflicting elements and themes. Firstly you've got the desperately poor atmosphere of the ghetto, then you've got absurd extreme sports, skydiving, jet fighters, casinos, street racing, etc. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun game, but despite the fact that GTA:SA takes the gritty route in the storyline for the most part, I think it's the least believable game in the series overall. The game tries to be gritty and serious in the storyline, all the while trying (perhaps a little too hard at times) to maintain the edgy, satirical humour characteristic of the series, it often feels at odds with itself. Add to this various stupid design decisions (you can modify cars and you can participate in street races, but you can't use the cars you modify in those races, what were they thinking?), and that the PC version of the game is unacceptably buggy (Half of the models are broken and lack specular lighting, for just one example), and I just can't name it my favourite. So, of GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas, GTA3 is my favourite, but Vice City is close behind.
  17. I agree completely. Another thing I'd like to know is, how many of these complaints were levelled at GTA3 before the later games came out? I don't know about everyone else, but I barely gave "changing clothes" a moment's thought until it was introduced in Vice City, and even then I didn't miss it in GTA3 (I played GTA3 after Vice City). Being unable to swim can be annoying sometimes, but it's more believable in GTA3 than in Vice City. I mean, in Liberty City the water is cold, polluted and often violently stormy. Vice City's water is pristine, clear and calm most of the time, so that you can't swim in it is a lot harder to swallow. And as for all the complaints about the rain and the fog, what the hell? They're all part of the dark, lonely and corrupt atmosphere of the city. Besides which, I think a lot of people exaggerate just how much it rains. It doesn't rain all the time (it's more half-and-half in my experience) and fog isn't all that common. Last time I played the game through the weather was like this: 40% clear, 50% rain, 10% fog.
