    Overclocking

Yeah, my $2k includes $300 monitor, $150 speakers, keyboard, mouse, $225 for tax and shipping, etc. So in reality, minus all that, my budget is ~$1400
  2. I am going to use 1920x1200 And I also do Video Encoding, which is mainly why I went 1GB. Also that it wasn't even $15 extra. The 8800 is not available in 1GB Versions. That's really the only difference, but i want 1GB, so I'm gonna go 9800. Besides, there's almost no price difference. And my Gigabyte version is pre-OC'd and has a custom heatsink. For $15 more than the 512MB 9800 and $35 more than the 512MB 8800. Wow.
  3. I've already decided the board, no way I'm going to change. Besides, as I've already said, I'm going to go Gigabyte regardless. Too many good experiences. And we're not all rich, Jace. The PC I have now was mid-range, built in 2005, and only cost $500.
  4. True. Yeah, the Q9550 lacks a 9.0 option, but it really is basically the same processor. And besides, the Q9550 is overclockable just about as far as the Q9650. Maybe if the difference was only $25 or 30, it might be OK. But charging almost $100 extra for a higher multiplier sounds like shitty marketing to me. My main point is that why pay an extra $70 for 0.17 extra GHz Clock Speed. If someone could pay that money, then they should go i7. The Q9550 is already really expensive as it is, and easily OC-able to well-over 3.0GHz.

    Overclocking

Ok, let's assume everything I say is right. You can not do that... Despite you thinking that you actually know it better, cause you don't. Especially with that RAM. Not that it's bad in any way, but you just won't get it to 1200 MHz. RAM OC'ing takes quite a bit more than your CPU you know. Even though it's not far, you probably won't get further than 1100 on stock voltage. It's not even that rare that you simply won't be able to pass 1080 MHz on stock voltage. Yeah, cause the BIOS one laptops really give you loads of overclocking options... oh, right. [/sarcasm] At the moment I'm running a system OC'd to 3,6 GHz, undervolted. It runs cooler than at stock. Don't be scared to overclock a bit more, you'll have enough room for that. It does. Which is a good thing, I think. I think so. But really, overclocking your RAM is the last thing one does. 800 MHz is fine for the average person, even for gamers. It's just for things like superpi and high overclocks when one wants 1066 MHz and above. Overal the system looks fine, though 5 years is a very, very long time. I'd say 3 years. After that it's really going to be one of those old, crappy systems. 5 years is to long. It won't brake down in that time though (well, it shouldn't). 1) I've decided that I'm willing to change voltage and timings slightly, and that 1150 is enough if I can get there. 2) Taken out of context, see my post above. 3) 3.2GHz is enough. Maybe 4 years from now when the PC is shit I'll go higher. 4) Oh goodee, the GPU has a better fan. Oh the more OC. 5) I need fast RAM, major multitasker. But I think Ill go with 1150 if I can get it. Ill probably upgrade to 12 or 16GB RAM in a few years anyway, so not a major problem if it only lasts 3 years. 6) Yeah, my current PC was built in the summer of 05, mid-range PC at the time, and now it fucking sucks. But my parents said that if they're going to spend over 2 grand on a PC, it better last a while.

    LOL

oh, oops. Well, I've only been on the forums for not even a month now.... Still funny anyway.
  7. Not that it's on topic, or very kind, but I found this quite amusing
  8. I have 8GB RAM, which Ill never use, and a 1GB Video Card. Figured GTAIV and FSX, and other things too would run better if I had a 1.5GB Card, and still ~ 7680MB (7.5GB) System RAM.
  9. I don't give a crap about your BIOS... It's a P45 think. Which is good for casual overclocking, but in no way is it an x serie. You're a fool. I'm sorry, but how can you make such ignorant remark. Newer? In a sense. Updated? Not really. It is, in fact, 100% identical. It doesn't even use the 55nm version of the G92, but the old 65nm one. It uses the same ciruitboard design. It is.. the same card. It's rebranded. It's a strategy by nVidia to get idiots to buy their old products and it seems you are one of those idiots falling for their rebranding trick. Yes, I do realize that they are mainly the same. But, the 8800GT does not come in 1GB Versions, and there is almost no price difference anyway. That was a post by you by the way.... But back on topic, here's a quote, that may or may not apply to the actual meaning of this topic.
  10. OK, due to the very kind suggestions of others, I have modified the build to a setup that remains below $750 (Minus motherboard, est. $150) and can run GTAIV, while staying well below your budget of $1000. (Not on high settings) GPU: GIGABYTE GV-N98TOC-1GH GeForce 9800 GT 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Also, incase your 1000 budget was in AUD, $750 = est. 1050 AUD (Over budget??) Lol XD Same exact Core model, but set to a higher multiplier (9 vs. 8.5 on the Q9550) and marketed for an extra $70.
  11. im new i just joined Welcome to TGTAP, enjoy your stay! And just advice, don't listen to me in the forums, I'm a pretty bad role model as far as the Forum Rules go.
  12. Just kidding, lol

  13. Historic Moment.

Pepsi Factory Version 1.0.1 Released to TGTAP.

  14. Don't forget to double-check! If that doesn't work, you can always get a second opinion.... Or third.....

    New Factory

Hooray!! I'm done with the Pepsi Factory. Only took me about 2 hours. For version 1.1 I'll fix the distortion of the logo of the bag. Or perhaps I'll hold it out until I make more changes and put it all in V2. Also, If anybody has any factory suggestions, for this or the Coke Factory, (Not involving the models) please let me know.

    New Factory

OK, I've made a Coke Factory for GTAVC. Currently, I'm making a Pepsi Factory, which I may be finished with in the next few days. (I'm not spending much time on it everyday) I am looking for suggestions as to what company I should make after that. It should be drink/ food related. E.G., Mountain Dew, Nestle, etc. Also, just for those of you who might care, I am also working on a Pizza Hut in South Downtown, (Like my Burger King mod) Mercedes Autos, (Like my Ford Autos) and a mod that changes all the decals on the Bloodring, Dirtring, etc., to real-life company decals.

    Overclocking

Sorry, Anyway, I'm sure you can overclock them a little, but not too far because the cooling system obviously is not made for it, and there's not many options in BIOS. They're simply not made for it. Probably would drain the battery a bit faster too.
  18. lol. People hater.

  19. I voted Ford and BMW. The rest I picked randomly.

    Overclocking

Create a new topic for that. e.g. "Laptop Overclocking" Simple eh? Yes, we do all learn something new everyday.
  21. We forgive you. Forgive me for what? Enough with the smilies, they lose there impact if you use them IN EVERY post. It's also fucking annoying. Being a Jackass in general. And dude, calm down. And yes, I will continue my use of emoticons.

    Overclocking

What? Quadpumped I hope. Your FSB is that divided by 4. Anyway, give me your specs, I'll give you advise. If you've got cheap RAM, 1200 MHz is going to be a no go. Other then that, 1500 quad pumped --> 375 MHz. Which is a very, very small overclock. Why OC your CPU so little, but attempt to kill of your RAM? RAM usually doesn't go all that far. I think you won't even be able to raise your RAM by 20 MHz without changing your DRAM Voltage. Keep latencies as they are if you are a beginner. Your card must have some serious problem if it even comes close to 90. It should stay under 75 under normal circumstances. If it isn't, then you might want to up your fanspeed. Or maybe your case is just far too hot. CPU: Yes. RAM: No. GPU: Depends.. it's a non-ref cooler and overclocked. Tell me the temps. If above 80/85, then I wouldn't be surprised if it actually would brake down at some point. And as I said, you'll need to change voltage for the RAM overclock anyway. My RAM comes stock as 1066, so 1200 isn't that far. I was originally planning on 1150. But I want my RAM to last a while. This PC needs to last at least 4 or 5 years. RAM: (2 Sets) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820227298 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115041 Heatsink: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835186134 GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814125246 Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811129021 (1x 200mm Fan, 3x 120mm Fans) Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...%20GA-EP45-UD3P And I'm OCing my CPU so little because I want it to last. Such as I am not OCing the Northbridge, or overvolting anything. (Other than possibly the RAM) The GPU I have no idea what the normal temp would be, I haven't built the PC yet. And I doubt that my OC'd Gigabyte version comes with a special heatsink. But then again, I really have no clue. And will overvolting the RAM shorten its life? I also need this sytem to be stable, and I would prefer not to change the timings if I can avoid it. I'm only looking for small Overclocks here people....
  23. This PC is not mainly for gaming. GTAIV I might not even buy, and Flight Simulator once in a while. The 9800GT is enough, and I'm already well over budget. And with the motherboard I'm getting, I can do everything OC related through my BIOS. My 9800GT comes OCd to 700MHz Graphics Clock, and I will personally OC the memory from 1800 to 2000. The actual Processor of the GPU I will likely not OC. And no, the 8800GT really is definetly not identical to the 9800GT. The 9800GT is newer, more update, and better for overclocking.
  24. No. Only 38 MHz higher than my OC, and memory is only 200MHz higher than my OC. Besides, I don't need it. I barely even need the normal 9800GT. Besides, it's only 512MB and $35 more expensive when I'm already overbudget. But thanks for the recommendation anyway, I did consider that card at one point.
