  1. Expect a MetalHead to say such a thing, right?? But in honesty, I'm talking about GTA Five, I'd been speculating with friends about the GTA 5 information expectancy, and trying not to lose any sleep over it, but Rockstar and Take2 have in the past few months, pointed out that their gaming Franchise will take all required time and not be rushed out the door, but hint of a list provided to Gamestop IIRC, showed a GTA mention for early next year, and of course, If Les Benzies, Sam Houser, or Dan Houser's up for renewal contract with Take2, as I understand it, claimed to be a sign something can be expected before hand. I am not sure beyond rumor what kind of fact that might be, I think Rockstar North have to show something of the game in a year leading up to the release, most likely some stills to entice a setting and story speculation in motion
  2. How many of you have encountered blown or burnt capacitors on a motherboard? I read an interesting history online that a scientist stole a capacitor formulation and sold it to a Taiwanese manufacturer, Major computer companies bought the subsequent parts from this firm, the stolen formula allowed gases to emit and leak, as well as burst, the electrolytic Capacitors regulating the CPU voltage, and the like. As such, if a board malfunctions and you can physically see the damaged cylindrical caps, you can in fact get a soldering iron and replace them, I'd started doing that after putting off the project for some time, the most effective procedure is using a good spare board with other damage to pull needed caps from and then insert then in the holes of the damaged board, to do that, you have to remove the bad caps as well. It takes 30 minutes or so to do about 5 caps, and I wound up with 9 working computers I had collected for $5 each!! Some other electronics were also harmed by batches of bad caps because the companies do not make these smaller parts, they buy in bulk from other firms, so brands like IBM, DELL, and Canon, Sony, were all effected in the past 15 years by bad batch capacitors used, My testing and repair showed that just from working the simplest measure of heating mounting solder and gently rocking a damaged cap out and pressuring another in it's place, got a board refurbished, as a result, I had dirt cheap Dual Core status, DDR2 Ram, PCI Express x16 boards for less then $10 USD! Might wanna think twice about tossing things out you can keep for spare parts!!
  3. I was banned for "spamming the PM box" Don't know who, but I am still a vet of GTAforums till my dyin day. I wish I'd been there longer, a year or so, a REAL VET of the scene and I could have been since I got GTA3 when Vice had not come out yet, but it took Vice to convert me to full on admiration Society member. I recall a Ghost of Delete Key from there, likely the same guy who's not been banned yet?? I went in with a friend at an attempt to counter the treatment with his idea for a forum, falling under the short name of GTAC, you may know but if you don't rumor was it was my forum simply for the fact I was banned from the GTA Networks, they got fed up with me, I type a lot of thoughts in my head, and people eventually just wanna pull the plug, so I looked for some sorta alternative. Well, I was banned from "my own Forum" is the upshot. Chris had been more then accommodating, my hats off to you, good Sir. Keep up the good work! To those opposed, say "nay"? "I"! Anywho, I just wanted to express ones self within reason, other people have their own problem with it, I can't figure that out and I never will, but I can understand things that DO make sense. Not all of it does, quite frankly. My bans include GTAF, GTAC, and GTAG, Gaming that is, and a lot of GTAF'ers hang out there, so it would feel like "home", however, I can't contact my old BUDDIES, and I did have a few, over many years at GTAForums, I'll just recall the good times there, but GoDK took some cheap shots at me because he's just not comfortable being himself, he goes out of his way to make others look bad, just like a bully would (he's got to own that Rockstar game!) I noted this is very old, and bumped my GoDK a year prior! He mentions GTAHole, that site is dormant but we hope to revive at some point, it's my friend Tripmills got the keys to that door. We encouraged Modding experts to join up, but people were more tuned into to lurking for the latest RN GTA news, more then just taking part, sadly, that continues. GTAF is hard to ignore once the mods turn their sights on you and you're removed. You have little recourse, the Mods get sick and tired of just volume of complaints and that could be the same daily members over and over, railing on you Just to shed light on what happens, us Ban Hammer gamers are still out there, we have to now entertain ourselves some other way, down but not out, and infamous if you wanna call that lucky! haha
  4. Most of us use Free AntiVirus, and some Rootkit protection, but they always say it's free for a reason, you're not getting SOLID protection, I'll use Avira after I heard it's pretty good for the free version, and used to use GriSoft and AVG, however, most started charging. My second PC came with Norton 2006/07, my first computer in 2000 had Windows ME and no AV software, no Firewall, nada Now I use Microsoft's Security Essentials. Have you had to go above and beyond any of that? Use to try some others out. Malware Bytes I was invited to try as it was just getting off the ground, it's got a very nice user interface given that fact
  5. I've not been on here for some time, trying things elsewhere, but it's time to make presence known again. I am most curious about how Japan stems a Nuclear meltdown, something the world has not worried about since Chernobyl in the Ukraine, 1986. It was not until tested workers in Sweden noticed high levels of radiation that the outside World became aware something was simply not right. Years of secrecy and working under their own guidelines meant that systems and buildings were not up to standards of the World. The plants in Japan were built in the 60s or 70s and are problematic we are finding out through reported faults at GE who pressed on with their designs at that time. The worst case scenarios came to fruition as we noticed, so much misunderstanding that Californians live in more fear of the fallout then an upcoming quake on their side of the Ocean. More then the unrest in Libya and Yeman, Bahrain, etc, which is compelling to say the least, the nuclear incident and Tsunami along with snow and cold winter there, almost too much to even imagine going through!! In light of the events, I used YouTube to watch documented video and news on both Three Mile Island and Chernobyl, I was in High School in 1986, when it happened and my memory is just too foggy. Even recalling Muammar Qaddafi at that time, as Ronald Reagan referred to him, the Mad Dog of the Middle East, the UN Resolution of a No Fly Zone there has resulted in French Air Strikes against the military hardware he's since amassed. I wonder if you guys were discussing these events already and I missed it, if so, cut and paste my addition there! I advise if you're in the USA and watching MSNBC clips on Xbox Live, check out that Chernobyl updates but make sure to see the Russian footage shot at the time, to get an understanding of events, I feel they only got HALF the story, if even that.
  6. They won't tell me, since I'm lazy, rather ugly, stupid, worthless, and I'm too busy gaming to really care too much. Sadly, Internet X seems to justify a lack of love life! hahaha
  7. When a tech problem becomes so obscure or so large, you are faced with the option of replacing and discarding, how do you tackle it? I become somewhat attached to my gear, I take in old gear to run through tests and put back into use, as a hobby and a bit of the Geeky nature I have. Right now, the impetus for this thread is a DVD RW drive I hoped would last some time, however, it's Pioneer branded PC IDE, and my experience is such that if I never use Pioneer PC drives again, I can be happy. This one was MADE in 2006, and it's stopped reading DVDs and CDs. Much less record anything. The price of DVD recorders is now about $30 to $50USD, however, I hate spending money you don't have to. A laptop DVD Recorder costs more like $50 to $100 range, and BluRay Recording for PC is about $180 on up. Still pretty expensive getting new tech, any way you slice it. At the moment I'm thinking a cleaning or even Firmware flash if possible could help save the drive, but I may also just sell it AS IS for someone else to tackle refurbishing it. One thing I know is I can't find the will to actually throw a drive like this in the trash. I've seen good working stuff just tossed out for the garbage man, and I know it's working because I will test something out that looks good. I don't bother with the glut of old TVS people are casting out though, in favor of LCD. It's just too much bother and you know TVs can be a complicated mess to repair! I did find this link related to my item; http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/654833-drive-problems-pioneer-dvd-rw.html I opted not to specifically post about that model or just DVD drives, but allow you to comment on premature problems of your own, I'm sure you wondered what some repair professional might say, or refer to Google to see if someone's in the same boat you happen to be in!??
  8. GTA gal never posts a pic on our own Forum, that I know of, but nice to "SEE" who I talk with! hahaha I got more, I think I've been lazy, Working with my buddy Mike to build our own GTAC website and though it's growing, there's few taking part still, the lack of GTA games is not helping one bit! We hope to cover a GTA 5 sometime this year!! Ok, I have a big one here from the ole' webcam, but maybe TOO big for this??
  9. I'm cursed, I tried to tell myself I wouldn't buy a new PC till I sell something, parts or full working desktop or laptop, and what happens, I see a PC deal or one discarded I am driven to power up and refurbish. As it happens, I've built up a collection of PC and laptop that rivals the cat and dog hoarders of the World, or women and their makeup and shoe buying habits, that's bad folks!! So, when and how many, say you? If you have a pictures of what one YouTuber described as his "Nerd Cave", that would be the general idea with this thread. I just gave away two old PCs for free, and I did spend as much time as I could updating them entirely, the best VERSIONS of software that would run on a machine with Windows 98 and 32MB of RAM, to use the last one for an example. I have a Toshiba 90Mhz Satellite laptop that has a proprietary memory module, only 42MB or something, shared by system Ram, however, do you guys even know what EDO DIMMs look like?!? hahaha
  10. Well, There's considerable debate over the issue of Global Warming, I had a local discussion where I brought up the recent report on World Population and Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth. Scientists were in a weather special on PBS not long after I had personal debates with two people I know who think the Earth is not gravely impacted by our Carbon Footprint, or Human impact. Save the Amazon, well, Polar Ice caps melting and warming the Oceans seems to be fact enough, and the Extreme waves of cold and warm causing violent storms is now presenting itself. You see here, right this minute snow and wind are culminating in what is a MidWest Nor-Easter. We are over 10 inches of snow in one day and it won't end till 4PM on Monday! Two days, we have over a months' snow total in 12 hours, folks! Over 60 inches when this winter closes. I've had enough, I can't tell someone I can get to a new job when I can't drive in the never ending, never fully plowed snow! I just came in from shoveling! Back breaking work and I am covered in sweat! That's the fun of winter, and then consider Emergencies and just driving ANYWHERE?!?!? Fires? In ice cold, don't expect to get them put out easily!
  11. I'm raised a Lutheran Christian, better then Catholic. The problem with Man's Religious stance is that he is only Man, you have to still have Ultimate Faith in a Higher Power then Mortal man. Some people who don't wish to die and go to Hell just believe you die and never wake up or perhaps, are born again, not as human but re-incarnated as a butterfly or horse? What I'm saying is why should your stance that there is no God be correct all of a sudden, if you're a mere mortal taking guesses about such things. Your proof perhaps not more valid then our own, however, Man surely did not create life or the Universe
  12. I was recently asked by someone if GTA4 MP was still active, are people still playing it? Yes, perhaps more then RDR MP at times, I believe in RDR there are more then one MultiPlayer World maps for all the people playing the game online, it just seems logical given how you can select to move in and out of Freeroam. For GTA4 you wait for the required players and to assign objective attributes if you lead a group from the early stages. When I started I felt I was cold-turkey with no previous MP experience, but after the full session I deemed it still fun to do. But now I got myself a headset for XBL I think it will come in right handy to urge people to decide to play when others are waiting to get a group going in the waiting room sections!
  13. Just to update this, I first bought a used PS3, so I have a PSN account even though I sold my PS3 to pay the bills, I had to buy an Xbox to keep gaming and I went through 4 of them thanks to RRoD which I invited at first in attempt to fix the issue myself. Two parted Xboxes initially got me several months of play and a stack of games, and I still hope to be PS3 in the future, if there is one?!?!? Xbox at the used price is $120 or so USA. And I find that quite better then the $300 for PS3 still. My idea was to buy the PS3 based on long term use of PS as my own opinion was the PS controller like you, very easy to associate with, however, with GTA's familiar controls, the Xbox360 one adapted easier then I thought and initially felt bigger. But now feels somewhat small in my hands! I also have to submit my Gamertag so you can see me online as well, I'm SlammanGrande. Set up the Gamertag after my old one faltered. It is signed up for use but I can't get it working (TheGMmadman) I would prefer to revamp my new Gamertag to GrandeSlamman, and yeah, the name had some bearing on my fondness for Red Dead Redemption. Tried tying it in loosely
  14. I bought Episodes for PC, partly for the lower price, the other reason being I am a console user from the outset. From my Gamertag and online status of other members, I only see GTA4 listings for PC and the console, in Xbox Live. So that is interesting, being new to online myself.
  15. In my new online entertainment, I find avoiding streaming audio on my PC, the Xbox Live feature Last.FM is available for free and pretty interesting, though I was hoping for more a'la carte music videos on Zume or something, here you at least have Wiki data and photos on an HD viewing set if available on your end. It's pretty nice. Still lacking and some data is off the mark, but for the most part, very effective. This service can certainly use some expansion and more material better fitting the genre and artist particular channels Have you got this? Use it? Have your membership with Last.FM?
  16. Even though I bought the game for PC, I only just recently bought a Quad Core and set that up in a nVidia based board with the 7100 chip built in, so it will actually bypass the GeForce 7100 internal graphics to use PCIexpress Palit card I obtained Geforce 8600 model with 512MB DDR3 graphics Ram. Not a bad one for the price, but I hear it can be iffy still for GTA gaming, though it's officially recommended, oddly. I wonder, was anyone else dismayed by the extra long load time, I seemed to encounter, I was putting together a YouTube clip showing the loading on my Acer Aspire laptop with it's own Core Dual. However, it lacked the right graphics with Intel chipset, but it was basically a test that took seemingly forever. Hence, I am hoping to still get an Xbox360 copy used, but there are none!! hahaha
  17. Guys, everyone needs to keep in mind, look back at the history reported for RDR.... it was seen in development since 2005 I read. That's a hella long time. To get a game that impressive requires more then the older 2 year wait. It's always hard on the maker's end to pound out some successor if they hit their mark after many years of build up, the games have gotten better, but it also has gotten bigger in scope, bigger in budget, and hit and miss with new hardware, programming for every new thing that comes along, that's tough work, I am always impressed as Hell by what we are seeing, but one should not take this work for granted either, I'd expect it to take a lot longer the better it gets. Sadly, the price to pay, but what speeds things along are two fold, the staff size, and learned techniques that are employed in new guises
  18. My mate/friend Mike is really rooting for a Vice City successor, the landscape flat, the game grows long in the tooth with Vice City Stories (VC 2!!<-) but I can see the 80s being covered again in some form, just that the locations we have already had served duty in revision already. I want a new location, one proving so detail-dripping-euphoria inducing as Red Dead Redemption's vast new map, and almost thinking we should have Rockstar San Diego doing much of the work, or jointly, perhaps!??
  19. I haven't been away from Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption in awhile, but I am just getting started online with XboxLive for the first time ever, picked up a headset and have been using a USB keyboard since I got sorted with a new GamerTag. Judging from starting all over again, none of my gaming history is really attributed to the Live Gamertag yet, but I hope to see friends and some enemies perhaps, online in XBL I will need tips and in-sight as to how Games for Windows on PC works, when I look at Gamertags from my console, I see GTA4 PC listed, for example. Never looked into details when I was dialup, even though I signed on to YouTube before I had broadband and made use of that service with Dialup back in the day! I am also not sure where we have a topic for this, General Gaming subject, rather then specific to GTA.
  20. Dudes!! Dudettes... Carcer City is Where it's at.... Literally Ok, just a well educated guess-timate, but I think Carcer City just begs to be it's own GTA platform and I seriously would not rule it out!!
  21. Got me a Core2Quad and nVidia 8600 for the series

  22. ... I don't know any people who bought it personally, I did contribute some ideas before it was even released to DS, and as far as PSP apps go, the Killer App was something I suggested with the GTA Stories series, and I still feel they are must owns for fans of the series, so no doubt I will get it at some point...just a question of when!
  23. I just, and I mean JUST bought the recommended Quad core recommended, I think it was 2.3Ghz, the 9300? Anyway, it was $120 for that CPU locally. I have 2 GB ram, two 775 motherboards, and those were about $40 each. I have a palit 8600 nVidia I believe is 512MB and haven't employed it just yet, either, glad to see I got the right group of hardware, but it's over $200 in all.
  24. We've both been into GTA since circa 2003. Both members of GTA net's GTA Forums, but there's problems there that caused the germ of having this new site formulated. It will take time to really find an audience, but we have a good start it seems. We're both staying committed to what type of game GTA is, the benchmark for Freeroam mission based adventure. The 3D reality in small scale with it's AI. that's what makes RDR so interesting as well! As far as their computers, do you know what brand they were? Or only via the desktop?
  25. Hey all, Just want to relate I recently bought another used Xbox360, as I had enough from some money coming in to do so, and I started playing GTA4 for hours on end. All of a sudden the 360 dashboard pops up and the game reboots, I basically was trying to re-enter the game undisturbed. When this happened again about twice IIRC, I noticed in my haste I bypassed the first Dashboard error message. The disc was rejected for read errors and would not commence further game play, so it reboots and loads from the creditscreen. Needless to add, I was screwed, blued, and (not) tattooed. At this point, after realizing I needed time to test the performance, I took out the disc to notice small scratches and buff marks. I feared the laser was scratching my priceless GTA4 disc!! I can't tell you the anxiety level for that! BUT, using paper towel and some Windex, got it nice and shiny again. Now, Windex is not recommended for most surfaces that could be susceptible to harsh chemicals, but for my uses, it does do a great job on the PSP shell, as well as some CRT or LCD, but it is not advised, Due to it taking off protective layers. You need something that can work in place of glass cleaner so look for something similar I'd say. Most important, back up that game data!!! I regret it and you will too once the crash occurs
