  1. Chris, if it was a standard 775 socket Pentium 4 at 3Ghz, it would more likely be HT or HTT as it's technically known, and then the step to Pentium D and Core Duo would be actual dual cores from Intel. AMD beat Intel to the table with 939 socket x2 AMD64s! I don't have one of those but I have a capable 939 board with AMD's Athlon 3400+ For Intel i3 dual core HTT CPU on a Biostar board, a Core2Quad Q8200 on a geForce 7100 ECS and Core2Duo 1.8 from Dell's XPS 410 parted out, running on an MSI board, with the 5450 ATI Radeon I got as my bestest vid card, the i3 uses it's HD internal graphics basically, and Windows 7, I use Vista Ulti, and XP as well on the others, I also put Vista Premium on the MSI with 3GB of DDR2, the Biostar is upgraded from 2 to 4GB and Win7 on it is 64bit! Nice, a bunch of gaming rigs, if a bit outdated in all
  2. I hoped no one would be upset it was centering on Mobile CPUs but it gives a good idea about the changes and characteristics. For the record, following the transition from DDR2 to Double Data Rate 3 series RAM, the initial transition got luke warm response, and was said it would be a while to improve actual performance among DDR2 to DDR3 RAM in general, let me ask anyone using both... Have you noticed that performance there? The articles now suggest there is a notable difference, so I wonder, what was the point in which production made a difference? Here's a video of my PC version on my same spec card, a 5450 ATI with 1GB graphics RAM, it doesn't appear too slow or lagging! haha The card is affordable as well QjDAyk7W0rM Sorry it's not in English however ^
  3. We just got enhanced uploading capability at YouTube and longer content allowances but it seems the new SOPA and related IP acts up for legal battle and empowering lobby groups against Copyright abuse will make all these changes rather useless. I know bootlegs are supremely frowned on but I still want to hear them for posterity, and Youtube allows film viewing which can be argued needs to incur viewing fees if allowed. For me though, I think free is TV at the least, and documentary fare. I typically buy a movie I like and watch it on YouTube for other reasons, since the quality will ALWAYS be of a lesser degree, and YT cannot stream you HD as you get on home equipment delivery, nor can it give you 8 channel digital surround. I think streaming is nice if you're in transit, on your laptop, but at home, most don't sit at their computer to watch programming, it's just one outlet, and could all be under threat VERY soon! http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20111219/04440117128/poll-suggests-americans-all-ages-political-positions-locations-all-hate-sopa.shtml
  4. I'm going to outfit my Acer with a 945GM chipset from Intel to use MXM Express card graphics modules, both nVidia and ATI can then be used instead of GMA 950 graphics onboard, the XP 32 bit limits Ram to up to 4GB in all, but the Acer is said to support 4 to 8GB DDR2 Max, dating back to 2007 MXM and chipset is a match for the Hp Compaq Workstation series akin to wd9440 IIRC, a 17 inch LCD system notebook with MXM cards in all of them! A great upgrade path, but keep in mind, it's only MXM II series so it's limited. I can run a Core2Duo on this chipset at maximum 667Mhz bus, the T7600 CPU from Intel. Not the state of the art for modding GTA IV but possible the same specs needed for GTA V!
  5. Speaking of Hair Revival, I had mine cut recently....again Someone on another board brought up the idea that NO ONE had been mentioning Jezz Torrent and Love Fist. I know many expect more new characters and plots, then having Rockstar bring up the whole of their past for new game content, but it was DAMN good, after all!
  6. Ever think you MIGHT Christmas shop for a new computer? Built? Build it your self? I hear a few people might, I know I might, if I ever sell the old so I can be in with the new I came across some old reference leading to a new one, and this site I've seen parts of but somehow missed this fabulous PC CPU guide, laptop, notebook, desktop. Novice or expert, you deserve to have information plentiful, thorough and useful! Glad to link you up here! MERRY XMAS SHOPPING, everybody!! http://www.notebookcheck.net/Notebook-Processors.129.0.html
  7. I don't mod because I got GTA IV on consoles and was fine and dandy just playing with what Sandbox they gave me, but I like what I see with ICEnhancer as well as most people have, Those casual observers like me. What is REALLY neat is that in Rockstar's website is that their recent Q and A mentioned how impressed they are with the modding work! That's surprising to hear, as most think the companies frown on what appears on the surface as Reverse Engineering of sorts
  8. Everyone wants GTA3 and Vice City in HD, or RAGE, and we were getting San An in HD Rage based on the GTA IV engine, and now GTA V, what does everyone make of the differences?
  9. Watched the Jamie Lee Curtis movie Virus on YouTube, for one of the films offered in ten minute segments, it looks fabulous still! Not the same as BluRay by any stretch, but you'd be amazed what's up loaded to simple YouTube, AMAZED!!
  10. Typically, something as innocuous as the CMOS batt can cause beeping errors, if BIOS doesn't present onscreen text of any sort, then it's not as good a system as it should be. A few new motherboards allow you to use a GUI for BIOS from your desktop, but how do you get to it when your system is giving errors??
  11. GTAC will have it's Webmaster working on getting things ship shape as I did hear he's still with us in spirit, he'd been away from home, on a move or holiday, something, so when that happened,it was not a good time at all! I feel for you guys, but this is another forum of course, and one cannot go promoting the other GTA sites, that's not unreasonable to expect, but it did feel like an emergency I'm sure!
  12. Links from my Model's review stats (keep in mind, Cnet's has some misplaced data now recovered below: http://www.notebook-driver.com/laptops-information/acer-aspire-4710-series-notebook-technical-specifications/ http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/acer-aspire-4710/1707-3121_7-32552137.html Doing more digging around my 2007 vintage Intel Acer notebook, and I found ...finally, a list of parts to reference for making a GAME capable machine from it. Most parts and sellers on Ebay to help with this, my model is 4710 Gemstone series, casing designed by BMW, the automotive maker. The display is 14.1 inch, though as you go up or down in model, some all include the same set of features The first review is misleading, it's CNET's dated to mid 2007, whereas mine came out in September and features Core Duo / Centrino Duo, 945[GM[ Intel chipset with a T2450 CPU that's not quite up to Core2 specs, the Core2's appear to start at 667Mhz Front side bus on up, but this chipset should support the following ranges; Celeron M (mobile) 520,530 Core Duo T2050, T2080, T2450, T2060, T2250 Core2 Duo T7200 *no luck with this on my end, T5500, T5600, T7400, T7600. Processor ZIF adapter to match the CPU's pins is labeled mPGA 479 model The ram is 667Mhz to match bus speeds, though the lowlier CPUs are FSB 533Mhz only. DDR2 512MB, 1GB, 2GB... and one eBay seller claims 100% compatible 4GB RAM cards, and that's for one per slot to 8GBytes total system RAM! However, caveat is that you need to have a 64bit Operating System for it. You can make sure your motherboard is MXM revision capable once you have the bottom off and check for a MXM card mount near the fan. it will always be near the fan of the system so you can mount a Heatsink cooler, for the 4710, I found one finally, this week, happy to report it's from the LAPTOP AID people on eBay, a trusted seller. The model for this HSF cooler is GC055515VH-A For motherboards, the simple 4710 could be followed by "G" for graphics optional upgrade? But not entirely sure, one thing seems clear, The picture associated with the following; MB.AHP01.002 The oo2 part suggests a later mobo revision, however, not all pictures I looked at show a MXM card slot for the mounting! Be aware it must have one either on your computer or replacing the board to upgrade. It will not effect your original Hard Disk OS Another thing to look at is the MXM II solutions for gaming, the ATI Radeons came up most recently but because of the PCIexpress accepted MXM standard approved, nVidia also supports a few cards but may not be always compatible. ATI cards for the model Aspire I work with will range from $115 to $200 USD EXPENSIVE! But for portable gaming, the only workable solution if you have one of these systems HD2300 cards start out the $115 range, with 256MB of DDR2 game memory Going up the chain you have HD3470 and HD4570 with 512MB of sole video RAM for your games. Other Aspire notebooks to include in these is 4920G and 4310
  13. Vinewood was an early clue/guess/suggestion over at GTAForums. I latched on to that and when I saw Vinewood in the trailer, it literally Sealed The Deal! Not only that, but the San Andreas connection was clear after the beach scene, which to me seemed like Vice City, obviously... Since the Life Guard houses first showed on the VC beaches. In term of the GTA realm, I sincerely believe that Los Santos as we've seen for GTA 5, won't be the same as San Andreas. Most of us believe there will be changes as an exact map would be unrepresentative of the Rockstar Worlds evolving. I believe they chose some of SA for the sake of fans, and probably based on time required to make a new game in a time frame suitable
  14. I'd love to have VCS emulator working on PC, since I don't have a PS2 handy or PSP anymore, nor did I buy the PS2 version Where do I sign up, I mean right now!? I didn't even give it much thought. I was looking over one site page where HOT LINKS was a sidebar showing MAME, and now we know Mame/Mame32 is pretty dated, Actual video arcade game emulation, par excellence. Of course, I paid for the game, I just sold the system to get money I needed. The one mentioned above seems easiest to find, and to avoid a CRAP LOAD of pop ups, use this link direct I hope....will work, the MAME ROM one required signing up and had the plethora of pop ups involved http://code.google.com/p/pcsx2 Do you need the PS2 disc in your DVD ROM on your laptop or PC? WinXP I imagine is the best OS
  15. I tend to shake my HDDs, physically, outside of the computer, to get any reading armature loose. Perhaps screw open the case a bit, or lube it up.. Bit of a joke, but the arm that reads the discs, I think could get stuck, the hub bolts are pretty high end secure. Small damage can happen that effects all the reading if the discs or armature are damaged slightly, and as mentioned, if reading or writing, you can move the laptops, but most people make sure a PC HDD is secured fully. I never use all four screws on a PC mount, just because two can do the trick for as reliable as they are normally
  16. I got my hands on two issues of the same Computer Games magazine, Both cover the controversy over Hot Coffee. What it misses, as it went to press, it covered JUST HAPPENING legal measures regarding Take2 and Rockstar, the backlash took some time to build. I'll be scanning this for Photobucket since it's a lot to just type up, however, most of you guys know Patrick Wildenborg discovered it, and he's still a member of the GTAForums, of course, well respected, This noted article comments on his position at the time, even declining an ABC TV news interview, and probably because he was not there to defend Modding, or Speak to it's relevance in gaming, from the interview conducted prior for the game, Rockstar rep said that the studio had an open policy that precipitated modding by those who well, Mod. The Modding community seems a small section, but this case REALLY put into play stringent rating overhaul so that anything NOT mentioned by developers would STILL hold them accountable when a game goes to a board for it's retail rating requirements. This also happens to be important for Australia's ratings of Entertainment and other locales, though the USA is stressed in the article. Key people also involved you can look up: Hillary Clinton, Jack Thompson, Doug Lowenstein, Devin Winterbottom (who said Rockstar leave open their games for Modders!!), Paul Eibeler of Take2 at that time, CEO Fred Upton, Hiawatha Bray, Patricia Vance, (pro Tem?) Leland Yee (democrat San Francisco / Daly City) http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Leland_Yee
  17. Dell, eMachine, IBM, Acer, HP, (Asustek), Compaq. I got a small army of laptops and PCs I had to move to storage in the recession, I was offering them via Craigslist, anyone need an IBM M51 ThinkCentre, or Dell Latitude CPx?? I'm selling all my C series Latitudes, all have 14.1 inch screens, some are missing parts like LCD as it happens, but they do work. I just want to find my old 'Putes homes. Alienware has been one of the premier Boutiques before Dell bought them out for a small sum (from Dell's point of view), All the old Premier machines were outdated at some point, and not all that powerful any more! Thinking back to 2005, the AMD 64x2 was the star of the show, and I can still run one. Prior to that, you had AMD64 FX55 and FX 56. FX is still a noted high end designation
  18. Damn right it's hardware, You would get into your BIOS if it were not, GUARANTEED!!! The best move is to find the specific beep error codes from the manufacturer of your motherboard. You don't give that needed data, no two mobos are the same! Everyone needs to remember this
  19. I didn't do that, but I did have the laptop touch pad inactive till I selected the opposite directions within the Mouse menu, Reversing up and down directions. The camera moves better if you chose Classic and directions for where to look, I designated IJKM keys I also moved the Select, weapon (][) keys and Fire, for on foot, and the keys U,O for directions shooting from a car, left or right.
  20. The Jumbo Jet nixed theory is that the Protagonist has to believed to have the ability to learn to fly such craft... In a move of realism within the story context. This could seem unlikely though. Given that the fun factor is disputed by fans staunchly
  21. God's Honest truth, My first hunch, it is the guy on the balcony, too hard not to think of him as a main character. We're pretty sure he's one if not the main one. My first idea coming to mind is he's either by his own will, or under Witness Protection, taking a sabbatical from his former life, Most likely putting it behind him (some think this could still mean an older Tommy Vercetti) and that the two "kids" could be older types, ones we'll cross in game play, the "Well, You know how it is", the perfect premise for the typical GTA mission plotting. I don't think this will be a stretch in story from previous GTAs, but they'll go for exploiting new locations that Carl Johnson never did.
  22. Can't say I agree with Tuner, The GTA IV soundtrack was a let down for people, most people. Rockstar themselves liked it for a few reasons I heard of. That Sam Houser was a big Queen fan and happy to have them included. That the idea of more ethnic programming was to coincide with the story. My complaint is I've never heard stations like that in all my years in America... And while we don't want a carbon copy of USA radio, which can be bland at many times, in recent years, It should sound something like American radio, obvious Talk Radio is getting the most humor satire. I do agree Lazlow's guests on GTA IV's stations were just lacking in real humor improvements. Maurice the Gardner from San An is actually first mentioned in GTA 3, I heard as I re-listened to that game! More back and forth referencing would be nice. DJs who we know as noted artists is so much fun in GTA games as well, hope to see it continue. As for Dokken, they were in a GTA game already, and I believe anyone Rockstar licensed already is a shoe-in for any future game, as they've done with Who and Phil Collins.
  23. ...And I don't see the point in hating on MySpace. The argument about Info sharing holds true for just about any company, they're looking for ways to cut costs and it's hard to keep any info online safe, it demands you take great care in what information you make available, since once you give it up, you can't do much to get it back. Monitoring your Facebook and family on FB for instance, that demands the user make sure content is kept within acceptable limits. Some porn sites allow you to share on FB and Twitter, and that makes little sense to me, I guess, since often your family will be on the same FBook! haha
  24. Soundgarden and Pearl Jam collide.^ Seattle was a hot bed in the early 1990s, that's how that came to be Jeff Ament on bass.. (playing in the MLB video, later Pearl Jam) Dedicated to Mother Love Bone. Seattle band that reminds me of Van Halen in a way I am very much RAISED ON ROCK, from way, way, way back. So, I also happen to like a large variety, but Hard Rock and Metal as well as Classic Rock is ma thang! I can't help but like it really. As for new Megadeth, it's still the MD I believe, not too unlikeable, it seems Mustaine has a different Snarl these days. The artists mentioned, they are Rock artists, Lou Reed is not really Rock N Roll, in the traditional sense. It's like saying Neil Young is Rock and Roll, even though he is, sometimes he's not! haha http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=CBACTCS4SmI
  25. Rock n Roll up first, I expect to hear SOMETHING from VRock's one, VRock's only Lazlow Jones. ... AKA Jackrabbit Jones, We should see him contributing in his own special way, not just as DJ, but working on various audio segments as well. Last time GTA news was breaking, not only was there a contest for the stations, but a Wiki of proposed artists being drafted for the game, We suspected via licensing deals, and of course, one star interview with the Stooges' Iggy Pop that was uncovered as well. I post this thread for not only station needed ideas, but what may officially be announced as far as radio talk shows, and music genres. We heard one rumor that the Public Broadcast station could return, A very funny satire about their annual fund drive, It was soooo hysterical, Wanted our own KFAI public radio to use soundbytes from the game. Sadly, never got to do that. My own music Hard Rock or Metal VROCK subsidiary selection here;
