Epson is an epic fail.

I'm sooo pissed off. A project in the Japanese class, and the printer that we have at home really fouled up. We're just using black ink, and now it seems to be using that cart up in an alarming rate. Now let's just say that the yellow cart went empty. The printer just basically locks up and demands you to buy a new cart or wind up having a big paperweight in your desk, even if you're only printing a paragraph or two in black.

They sell inkjet printers for less, but they will then bog you up when you buy replacements. And they don't agree at continuous systems, too (since they prefer to make profit out of carts rather than provide bottles and bottles of ink to feed the printer).

To sum it up, don't buy Epson. It's not that I'm into propaganda or something, but it's just that they somewhat disappoint you when you're trying to use it properly.

EDIT: Sorry if I posted a link (I don't intend to spam, you know), but feel free to sign the petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/epsonink/petition.html

Epson is only shit if you get one of those crappy budget printers. I have a RX685 and it's awesome. I guess their prices are kinda high, never gone wrong with any of them though. I won't even describe my experience with Lexmark... ugh... wait, I will... so it was back in '06, we just got a new PC and were looking to complete it with a sexy printer. There was a pretty cool Lexmark printer on sale, so we got that. In the morning, when my Dad tried to insert the ink cartridges in, something broke. Don't know what, but I'm guessing it was pretty important since the INK wouldn't go in then. So off we go to return it and get a new one. We got the same printer and tried to install the ink again. Once again, the plastic thingy broke.

Overall, the printer itself looked nice however the only downside was the cheap plastic used.

That's why laser printers are win. Expensive as hell to buy, maintain, and it's like having a small car on your desk, but they own. :P

I use shitty epson at home, never does me wrong. IMO, do your research before you buy, look at reviews, etc.

Agreed. My dad made the mistake of insisting to buy an el cheapo Epson with a continuous ink system, only to suffer from printer jams and other issues. My mum suggested an AIO printer (forgot the brand, though, but I think it's not Epson) to do the job, but dad declined, saying that it's too expensive.

lol, printer cartridges will always be a "problem"...but. thats just how it is. as for the not printing if a colour isnt there, afaik it uses CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) as its like primary colours. so for it to make green it needs blue and yellow for example.

better that it says it wont print, than printing and having the colour totally wrong?

or is it...

yeah my cousins had epson and its great, never stuffed up. they only upgraded cos it was sorta slow (but to be fair it was quite old)

edit

but if your printing b&w, get a laser printer. we got a Brother laser multifunction (fax, scan, print, copy) its only b&w , but its tons faster than inkjet. and ive only had to change toner once! in like 6 months. and my dad does alot of printing (like >20 pages a day iirc), plus all the faxes come on that, plus we use it as photocopier. and toner i think is $80. so good value. i dunno the prices there of course.

How much is a laser? I would like to shoop pages with that, you know...

I got a Samsung CLP-300 colour laser to review a year ago. It's awesome, fast, pretty small, and has barely used ANY toner.

My first printer was an Epson Stylus Color 360... biggest pile of wank ever. I enjoyed ripping it apart when I upgraded to an HP inkjet. Good day.

Nice. And do AIO printers do the trick? I think my mum saw one, and she once convinced my dad to buy one...

You mean to write "and she convinced" lolz

I have a all in one Brother multifunction bla bla bla whatever you wanna call it. its GREAT. does everything etc, (its not colour though, we have a hp printer for colour). but yeah, they are good, cos, convergence someitmes is a bad thing (average lots of stuff rather than really good one thing), but if your just a home usre im sure itl be fine, unles your printing out like advertising and it needs to be really good qual etc. its been great so far, no probs at all.
