Just installed GTA IV on home PC, registered online, downloaded all required software, installation completed. As soon as I attempt to launch the GTA IV game with CD1 in drive, I get the message: GTA IV FATAL ERROR: DD3D50. I am a new online user from South Africa and welcome your assistance. I am running from a Pentium 4, 3.4Ghz, 2 gig RAM, Windows XP Service Pak 3, Tornado NVidia GeForce Fx5200 256 MB video adapter, 24" HpL2208W monitor, 1280 x 1024 resolution, 38 Gig available hdd space available. Thanks, Faheem Alexander.

Oh, and what's your system specs? It would be nice if we examine your PC and see if it can run the game properly... Also, older video cards won't make the cut here when it comes to running IV - a 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible video card is highly recommended...

Your graphics card is well below minimum system requirements, according to R*, an Nvidia Gefore 7900 is minumum.

That might be your problem, I would suggest upgrading your graphics card, you can get a descent on for around R800 - R1000, i wouldnt go below that price.

Sorry man

Minimum System Requirements

* OS: Windows Vista - Service Pack 1 / XP - Service Pack 3

* Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz, AMD Athlon X2 64 2.4Ghz

* Memory: 1.5GB, 16GB Free Hard Drive Space

* Video Card: 256MB NVIDIA 7900 / 256MB ATI X1900

Recommended System Requirements

* OS: Windows Vista - Service Pack 1 / XP - Service Pack 3

* Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz, AMD Phenom X3 2.1Ghz

* Memory: 2 GB (Windows XP) 2.5 GB (Windows Vista)

* 18 GB Free Hard Drive Space

* Video Card: 512MB NVIDIA 8600 / 512MB ATI 3870

256MB IS the minimum guys, 512mb is recommended if you want to play it on high.

@Feryk: 8500GT isn't the best card to run GTA IV, you could run it possibly at low, 800x600 low detail settings probably like WRX22B1998 said. Go for a higher card like 9600GT or ATi Radeon 4850.

Hi Faheem, I'd be interested to know the interface of that card because there are atleast PCI and AGP listings for it.. Some info utilities on your pc are: "DxDiag" & "msinfo32" you can initiate them from the "run" dialog to check the specs on your card & other components, you can visit the website of the manufacturer of your card. I say this cuz the PCI, I saw listed it as a DX9.0 compatible ...

The AGP I saw didnt have DX info listed. They did list the mem as DDR which is abit older now as well as slower clock speeds but indicated it could run Vista w/ out all the "fancy visuals" ..

TM is right, I never really liked to run things based on "minimums", however, sometimes you can try to squeeze by on certain things but .. Heck I'm jus barely over the minimum tho in cpu & sys ram spec but after workin out soma the "bugs" I can play the game pretty well on lower settings about half way or lil under ..
