fatalgamer
So you know I came up with this idea on the come up of a mushroom trip..... my first mushroom trip. My idea is that the guy speaking at the beginning of the trailer was a banker or wallstreet type and he's done with that life style. Yeah it sounds bizarre I know, but he's always sharp dressed in the trailer, except in the heist scene. Also the shot of him overlooking the city makes me think he owns a rooftop condo or something similar. So what do you guys think?
LDoubleU
A nice idea, possibly a banker who, due to the recession has been laid off? And as such has turned to crime?
Red_Squirrel_UK
lol shroom's Maybe the main guy speaking at the beginning is acctually the villian I wish we was gonna be playing as CJ again, there is a guy who look's a hell of alot like CJ in the trailer.. But that's only because he's wearing blue jean's and a white vest top, his face look's nothing like CJ's but if its not CJ.. Why would he be wearing those clothes? and LOL @ trail by fire.. turned to crime by recession lmao.. I reckon the story will be to do with gang's, that's if they are even keeping gang memeber's in this game.
Dirty Harry
I wouldn't be surprised if the recession had something to due with the story. GTA has always had elements of the decades it portrays, in SA you have the LA riots for example. The 80s drug gangs in Vice City. Immigration in IV. amazingdude
But CJ was dead right? What if the guy running from the cops was CJ and Denise's son? lol @fatalgamer i think the protagonist before was a Ex-con, then he left his life in crime and tried to be good, he was a successful businessman but due to the recession his business was down. His friends in business had betrayed him for the $s. Now he has two things in mind "survival" and "revenge" by any means necessary.
surrealistic ArtSweet
if the story is to revolve around money, will revenge be necessary? IV was based on an outdated revenge (i just wish they'd dug deeper on the war and betrayal part, it really captures on who niko was) i think it's better if R* will focus on the classic Goodfellas money chasin' rags to riches, never gets old in a crime thriller story, although it would be good if we see some changes, from a boss to crackhead sounds nice i have a theory regarding the multi playable characters rumor, what if the first guy (hispanic or whatever) we saw driving and flirting, the guy with the suit who kicked the door in, and all the guys in that blue van, are playable characters? what if all of them are looking for this fresh new colour-me-green $ bills from one particular bank which one of the playable characters has (or once had) access to? and i have a strong feeling that the suit is the brain you know, this mile high club, maybe it's a gathering of socialites they targeted. i know this sounds a lot like ocean's eleven, or italian job, or the town, or any of those heist themed movies and games. but if IV's gameplay got truly epic when that one particular mission "three leaf clover" came up, III was hitting my nerves (i was once a kid, i have played games emotionally) because Catalina betrayed claude on that opening heist, VC was hard because it had that bank job, and SA was showing most of PS2's gameplay horizon, yet they still have that one venturas casino heist, why not make it big in V? i guess what i'm saying is R* has never made this intriguing heist theme a main focus you know, IV was about a diamond deal and revenge, still not heist. will it happen? oh and also @fatalgamer, congrats for your 1st trip bro, hope you've unlocked that hole in wonderland if you know what i mean Edited November 22, 2011 by surrealistic ArtSweet
BlackListedB
God's Honest truth, My first hunch, it is the guy on the balcony, too hard not to think of him as a main character. We're pretty sure he's one if not the main one. My first idea coming to mind is he's either by his own will, or under Witness Protection, taking a sabbatical from his former life, Most likely putting it behind him (some think this could still mean an older Tommy Vercetti) and that the two "kids" could be older types, ones we'll cross in game play, the "Well, You know how it is", the perfect premise for the typical GTA mission plotting. I don't think this will be a stretch in story from previous GTAs, but they'll go for exploiting new locations that Carl Johnson never did.

Ned Luke is the only guy who comes to my mind at this point. After a lot of sketching and photo finding via flickr we were able to find a match of Ned Luke's photo with the balcony guy. It has been posted on www.gtav.net and pinned. So it maybe possible that Ned Luke maybe one of the main Protagonists.
amazingdude
Niko's story wasn't based on revenge or betrayal but a person who was betrayed in the army came to New york to live an american dream who was invited by his brother but later he discovered that his brother was in deep shit! amazingdude
Although he seeked revenge against drako and florian, he mostly in the game worked to save his brother. [sorry for breaking posting rules]
cryptosis
Exactly my thoughts, fatalgamer. There's something about the way he says, "I wanted to retire, from what I was doing, you know? That... that line of work. Be a good guy for once." that makes me think he wasn't a gangster, but some other kind of "bad guy", one who works within the law seeing as how he can afford the safety of retiring and raising children. The fly in the ointment with this theory is that all past GTA protagonists have been gangsters or army men. How are they going to explain that this ex-banker guy suddenly knows how to fire guns and hotwire cars? One thing that we can say for sure is that he isn't going to be like any other protag Rockstar has done before. He's older, has a family, and he's made money.
