[SUGGESTION] Being able to delete your own posts.

Yeah I find this a pain in the rear end that you cant delete your own posts for accidental posting. I mean like delete your posts like on the other forums. It would be awesome if Chris added that feature that we can delete our posts before somebody else posts. Thanks

No. If you're an asshat to somebody, and they turn round and report your post. You delete it, then the mods have to go into the 'trash can', fish out your post, fit it n where it should be, and then decide what to do. Long job.

My advice is to stop having a reason for wanting to delete your posts. You should post only when necessary, and in a polite and courteous way. Accidental posting doesn't happen alot, so it's no problem for a mod to come sweep it up. It's more likely that this will be used not for innocent mistakes, but to cover up shitty posting habits.

It'd be abused. And that is a mod privilege and you can also report yourself to lock the topic and edit your post..

I'm not saying it like if you pissed some people off and somebody reported your post and you delete it. I mean like can you guys make it accidental only? If its reported you can do anything about the post you made. You make a post. Someone posts after you... you cant delete it. that's the method I meant.

I disagree with this idea. I have been accustomed to the current way that forums work. I don't think that this should be implemented as it would screw everything up.

What Husky was saying about allowing members to delete their own post if it was some sort of accidental double post, how is that even possible? Everything has logistics about it and this just seems a hard thing to do because you're limiting the criteria for the deletion of posts. On IPB you can't just say allow members to delete their own posts if it was an accidental post, it has to be coded which sounds rather hard for what you're suggesting.

Say you double post by accident (All at one time it happens due to poor internet connection), usually the double post gets merged with the first post and that then can be declared as still the first post, but it just has the same words on it that you had in the first place. Obviously if you think of this in a webmasters view, it's not a good idea for various reasons, first one being that people can abuse this. They could make some silly spam post or place a full stop in just 1 single post, not only does that mean they spam, but when they delete it, it ends up in the trash can or gets deleted without no trace of it on forums. At some point, admins or mods would like to know who deleted the post, so thinking about this, it'd be better to have known a staff members has deleted it rather than think one of the two did it, in which you become unsure of.

This could most likely make it harder for admins and mods to check who's spamming and if someone has dealt with that person. Obviously anyone can have a random-ass party in the lounge (The random-ass party could be the topic and the posts in it), and when the staff come on, they will most likely delete it so the staff think it's already been dealt with, or that nothing happened in the first place. If members had this privilege, they will most likely abuse it, and not only that, but if they get reported, they can easily delete their post without problems at all.

The most polite way to say you want to delete a post is either say "Double post. Please delete". Obviously it may not get deleted, but if a staff member thinks it's valid to delete, they'll delete it. Use the report feature if you feel that no one has seen it, then a staff member will come and delete it, or leave it depending on the state of the topic, or something to that lines. You shouldn't really worry about that, I mean, you can double post if you want to, but as long as your post is worthy. Don't go crazy and do triple/quadruple posts, that just makes it looked spammed up, and that's where the EDIT button comes in. Use that if you want to add something else to your post, and don't add a new reply, that will obviously get merged with the current first post you posted in that topic.

I disagree with the idea, it just changes alot of things, and starts to get annoying, that when you reply to that post, it gets deleted, and the source you quoted has disappeared. Makes you confused as well. Hope this helps you mate.

May I also add if you say "please delete this post" or something, that should be a polite request to staff. It is just rude to go around telling staff what to do. Some people have a habit of going round the forum posting "close this topic" in random topics just because they think it should be closed. We know how to do our jobs, but we appreciate people sometimes make mistakes, and letting us know when they have helps us keep the forums running smoothly.
