96-05 had a 3.0pushrod standard and a 3.0DOHC standard. They killed the DOHC for 06 and 07. And it's more a matter of transmissions, I'm sure the 3.8 would be quicker if it were mated to the newer (yet similar) transaxles. I got my alignment done in the driveway! Doesn't pull to the right or wonder that much.

The 3.4V8s had a problem where the camshafts would "walk" or "spin" and the engine would be destroyed. If I ever had a 3.8 Taurus, I'd get the kit that's is supposed to be available for the 3.8 and I'd stroke it to a 4.2 Yeah, it is a small V8 Don't the new F1 cars have like a 2.5v8? Actually I was kidding about the not knowing about the race part. Apparently it was a 2.7 charger. Still, that brand new car almost got beat by a 6 year old Taurus that isn't running well.

I kinda raced a 3.5 dodge charger today. I'm surprised, I was actually ahead until about 30, then he started to pull on me. Either my car got a lot of power I didn't know about, or those things are slow.

Shogun(ford) is a cool car, I'd never drive one. I don't like small cars. My 01 Taurus is on the border. I drove a focus - it handled nicely, accellerated fast (the 2.0 zetec didn't know what low end torque was) but it was just too small.

Anyone remember back in the early 90s when the Taurus SHO was better than the BMWs that were twice the price? That was a good car that died an early death.

Most SUVs nowadays aren't SUVs but all wheel drive cars ... Toyota Rav4s are a great example of "cute utes" . Front Drive and All wheel drive, 4 wheel independent suspension, car engine and unibody construction, no solid frame at all. Truck based SUVs are good for highway use - perfect example is a Ford Excursion. They don't get the greatest mileage, but you don't need to make 10 trips to the supermarket to buy groceries becuause you can fit eveything in them. And a diesel Excursion will last 300,000 miles easily. They are built tougher and last longer.
