  1. Thats Rollercoaster Tycoon, mate. This is Grand Theft Auto - originating around cars and crime. What do you want to do? Steal candy from a baby? Too easy. Hills? Nah Villages? Nah Sea? Nah Space? Nah Leave all that to International Rescue, but we want a city or three. More would be nice, but i would like to know my way round the entire game. Maybe GTA4 will be like real life, and if you have enough cash you CAN go to Ohio.
  2. Any why is he only thinking of American Cities. What about Boston, Chicago... I've never set foot in the USA and i could name loads.
  3. Didn't know Hawaii was a town... And i take it you have played GTA Paris, and GTA Rome, and GTA Sydney?
  4. Maybe R* could include lots of interchangable objects, so if you joined a certain gang at the beginning of the game (or whatever) your house would be decorated accordingly. And you could easily get rid of cars you dont like and replace with different provided cars. This is even more of an interactive environment
  5. There's a lot more work thats got to be done for GTA4 than VC or SA. The PS3 has got to be created Blu-Ray Disks have got to be implemented The title, timeframe, location and content for GTA4 has to be decided They gotta make a huuugggeee map presumably They gotta add several lorryloads of new features All the major GTA sites have to get hyped up, and recieve freebies The games gotta be finished and produced All the small GTA sites have gotta catch onto the action THEN its distributed and released Could take several months to play then - would be interesting.
  6. I didn't mean actually get lost - but if we had, for example, The United States in GTA4, then it would take one hell of a long time to visit every place, and impossible to visit every function. Although the principle of a larger map is appealing, if its too big then we may miss the fun bits. Blu-Ray is the next generation of media. LPs, Cassettes, VHS, Beta, CD-Rom, DVD have all preceeded. CDs and DVDs are read by red lasers, which are slightly slower than blue lasers, which Blu-Ray disks are made for. The PS3 will use Blu-Ray disks, and GTA4, which should accompany the PS3, could have up to 53gb, yes thats Fifty-Three Gigabytes, of data. This is why Blu-Ray is better. Currently, a CD has 700mb, and a standard DVD about 4.7gb. Just think what you could do with a disk eleven times the size of the one that will be used for San Andreas PC (won't even be full). This is why people are talking about GTA4 covering an entire country, there is enough space for about 25 cities (including countryside), and thats accounting for major engine, physics and texture expansions. woo
  7. LUVF1ST I do believe How many types of helicopters are there in Vice City?
  8. Somebody want to make a spelling correction forum round here? Size isnt all that matters in gaming. Sure, the larger the gameplay area, then the longer the gameplay and the more opportunities to fit every little idea in. But come on guys, if you have an entire country to roam, that would get a little bit boring. Ooo - countryside, countryside, village, countryside, countryside, city... etc. If we have just a couple/small handful of cities, with a nice rural stretch in and around, then thats gonna provide us with a big enough area for tons of gameplay, but not so big as we don't get lost / so we can find our way round. I love learning cities, in fact, I know Vice City better than i know any other single place in the world. Mind you, this is PS3, this is Blu-Ray, gaming will change from what we know, maybe to the extent of games that take weeks to finish...
  9. I am aware of that, notice i listed Sydney in the cities list, but maybe Canberra or Perth would qualify. I just cant see how three cities on the waterfront, followed by mass open plains, would make a brilliant GTA game. Plains are good, a lot of variety and stunt opportunities, but AUS is a bit top-heavy on that front. And the sheep was only a joke...
  10. Oceania isn't such a bad suggestion, considering its mainly islands, but on a scale much larger than those of the existing GTA games. Not sure it would be popular to implement a mainly rural environment, and i don't know how players would feel being outnumbered by sheep. Sure, if they scaled it down and increased the size of the cities then it would be quite good I think. Then there's the popularity of the UK idea, which admittedly is a logical progression from city>state>country. The UK is three small countries, with a good rural-urban balance and familiar scenery, much better than Vice's, although not as spectacular as some in the US or AUS. I think a UK GTA would be very popular, considering many see it as 'quaint' and are curious about it. I cannot think of a reason why Rockstar would make a game set in Uzbekistan or any other small/random country (no offense to people from small/random countries). Grand Theft Auto sets itself apart from any other game by using familiar places. To be perfectly honest, I would prefer to see a more familiar landscape, and i'm sure everybody here would like to see it in their own country or state. The problem is, i don't know anybody thats been to Alabama that doesn't live there. Its not a familiar landscape or recognisable city, such as SF, NYC or Miami. This is why I am backing the UK idea. Maybe London, Sydney, Paris, Rome, Rio de Janeiro, Cape Town or Tokyo have a chance. Think of each of these cities and you will think of the familiar landmarks or at least particular associations. Tower Bridge, Houses of Parliament, Millenium Wheel, The Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, The Eiffel Tower, The Colosseum, Christ the Redeemer... The list goes on. Maybe Rockstar will produce a game where you can switch between these cities at will. Then (almost) everyone's happy.
  11. Nothing against you at all, just defending my corner I'm under the impression that Rockstar will aim higher, much higher than we expect. They have done this several times before. GTA III was groundbreaking, with its AI and 3D Physics. VC expanded on these and introduced bike and heli travel. SA turned out to be an entire state, rather than the expected larger city. My guess is they wont just make the area larger, they'll have a different type of area, maybe not sea/space, but who knows. PS3 and Blu-Ray are already lined up, so you could fit a hell of a lot on, what is it, 53gb?
  12. Hmm.... You ever heard of GTA London? And even though the theme appears to be centred on America, it doesnt mean they have to stick with it. We all know GTA4 is gonna be different...
  13. And why is it that it has to be America, huh? Considering there's another couple of years before R* release gta4, i woul certainly agree that it should have a hell of a lot of brilliant features Link to GTA4 Wishlist Topic
  14. In reply to the future idea, i came accross this: What the year 2000 will be like from the perspective of 1922. They had a few good ideas, such as full electrical power, renewable energy, small cars, and advances in transport. In the picture we can see overhead rail, and traffic jams. However, some of the ideas are a little far fetched. We do not capture energy direct from air, streets are not paved with metal. Same goes for GTA, even in the near future. If we predict anything, it may be wrong. The USA may not be united anymore, Europe could be a single state, music may be banned etc... Yea i know i'm making them up, but its a good a guess as any. We cant presume anything. This is why the just-about present ideas gotta be the best.
  15. I meant if the game was the size of the entire USA That would require pretty big map to show every property So you'd just end up spending a few days driving through the desert to get to another city. Yea, planes would be implemented better, but still, the USA is a pretty big place. Yes, it would be cool to have a virtually unlimited play area, but then it just becomes pointless. If you get a choice of city to start off in, for example NYC, then you had to do loads of missions before you could go to, say, San Francisco, LA or Miami (yes i know i've just listed the existing GTA cities). Most other games have levels where you go from location to location and do a mission at each. The thing that makes GTA special is that you can do anything anywhere, once it's been unlocked. I would like to see a couple of larger cities, and maybe some offshore or extra-terrestrial development, and I don't mean aliens.
  16. I dont agree on the scale of the entire United States. Its great to have a massive area to roam, but I think its better to have somewhere you become familiar with. Who seriously wants to go somewhere and never return? Buying properties would be useless, as you wouldnt be able to find them again. Scaled-down cities are a possibility, and you could buy cities or something. But that detracts from the realism. Quite frankly, i would prefer just a couple of cities, but a lot more detailed. One thing I love about GTA is how it has all the neccecary urban, and now also rural, functions, such as police stations, hospitals, garages, clubs, shops etc. It would be a shame if we never got to use them again.
  17. And Rockstar are pretty good at delayed releases. If anything was to be changed after the hypothetical six-month window then it would probably only be a major event, following a mass humanitarian disaster or something. Just in some cases; it would be unethical to fly planes into the WTC or somewhat.
  18. The six months between game completion and playing (including distribution). They will have the opportunity to change things in the game up to the six month window. For example, if they had put the World Trade Centre in a game that was released afterwards, they may take the opporunity to remove it or remove it from the storyline.
  19. I was referring to what would be present when the game was played. Doesnt require much guesswork, as the world shouldn't change significantly in six months to a year. The game would soon be out-of-date whatever time period it was released in. I just think that, as a player in the form of a character, i would want some influence in the world, and i would wanna know who was making all our decisions. Hell, the character could even stand as a candidate. Would be fun to be mayor/president/king/prime minister/tsar/kaiser/pope. Congratulations to papa ratzi by the way (papparazi, geddit?)...
  20. Television will have to make an appearance, with it being a good focal point. Different channels, which change as the game progresses - news bulletins when bank robbed etc. I would like to see a stronger emphasis on the politics of Grand Theft Auto. If there was a rebellion or revolution, on a much larger scale than gang wars or mafia competition, that could give the game a greater sense of being. Politics stands prominent in our lives now, and has done for a very long time. The past wars, Iraqi democratisation, elections and uprisings could all be incorporated into the game. As regards to time setting, the ever-so-slightly future idea is probably the best, so that it corresponds with the release of the game, whenever that will be. Most artists record their music long before they release it, so R* shouldn't have a problem so long as they dont record the radio stations a year or so beforehand. Maybe its an idea to advance the game though time properly - if new things were 'invented' or political uprisings occured, that would immerse the player in the more important aspects of life, in the game. Television stations would report or change accordingly, just as the radio stations tell you a bridge is closed/open. If political parties could be elected, or at least change, then laws and thus behaviour would change. For example, a new party may increase the speed limit (AI cars go faster), allow beach nudism, or ban gambling. If we could take place in the selection of government or even in the uprising, rebellion, assassination of or revolution against it, then we would have a much greater level of control. However, don't expect the lousy politicians to tell the truth all the time. Anyway, don't forget it IS just a game, so we cant expect to see the character/s filling out postal ballots, or going down to the WI hall. Well at least not for voting...
  21. Bombs would be pretty good - more than grenades. Imagine nuking [city] from a jet. A timer that you could set on them as well. Would be good if the boot/trunk of cars could open and store things in. Many other games have intelligence pickups, like maps or letters. I would be surprised if we didnt see these in GTA4. The GTAIII series changed between night and day (streetlamps, car headlights), weather (clouds, rain, shadows, lighting), different areas (countryside=no cars, downtown=cars, docks=trucks, and peds for each) and even different times of day (rush hour, busy, quiet). GTA Four will probably expand on these, having better directional shadows that change direction as to where the sun moves, and go away when the sun is behind a building for example, as the last GTAs did to some extent; Wildlife perhaps (like the flies on R* homepage); different weather for seasons, and correspondence in street life for the weather, less pedestrians, more people getting taxis and windows closed. If the peds reacted to their surroundings more, and took note of what would happen, that would add that extra dimension of realism. But is that what we want? Are we happy with a policeman that keeps running into a wall? Do we want the opposing gang to be gunned down by the FBI and for our character to spend a few weeks recovering in bed? Nah, probably not. But some of these things would be cool.
  22. Bad luck about not being able to install VC, but i think you're missing out. That mod is the only script mod i've got. Plenty of car and map mods, and my own few hacks, but that certainly isnt contaminated with spyware or adware. Nothing you download off this site or the other major GTA sites will have anything bad in them.
