Dmac
While vehicles in the first trailer for GTA IV suggests a time period of around ~2005, PatrickW on our forums pointed out something very interesting. One of the notable landmarks that can be seen in the trailer is the Hearst Tower, which in real life is located at West 57th Street on Eighth Avenue to the south of Central Park. As PatrickW pointed out, this tower was finished in early 2006. Could this be a more clear indication that the game is set around 2006 or beyond? We'll wait for the upcoming preview from Game Informer for more information and bring it to you as soon as possible. Taken From: gta4.net Credits On Finding: PatrickW. The Bossman
Good find, there's no way I would have spotted that. I wouldn't have spotted the 3 mistakes in the trailer either, seeing as it moves too fast for me to notice. I guess it makes sense setting it in modern times because there's only been 2 3D GTA games set in (fairly) modern times - GTA 3 (2001) and GTA LCS (1998). Red_91
Great find I guess that rules out pre 2007, only now we have to see if its in 2006 or 2007.
GTAPlayer
Shit man, nice find, really nice. Well yeah perhaps it's set sometime in 2006, who knows. Still I think it's going to be set in Autumn 2007 or something like that.

Alistair
I don't see how important it is whether it's 2006/20007, there hasn't been that much change in a year and i don't think the game wil ever tell us

Bear
This must sound so stupid but I think the game at the moment looks more like New York then Liberty City. Stupid I know. I dont think it matters if its 2006 or 2007 to be honest.
