  1. You realize that running XP with WindowBlinds gives you much worse performance than running "Vi$ta" or Seven with Aero.
  2. lol And that's why my computer is in my room with the door locked, supplemented by a nice pair of silk-padded over-ear headphones. Oh and Husky post pics of your mom, I want to see what a parental failure looks like. Unless she's fat. If she's fat, naw dude...naw. That's me, if ya want more, PM me.
  3. I am now a Googlist, it actually makes perfect sense.
  4. Yeah, they shouldn't automatically remove EVERY piece of audio that's copyrighted. Fair use? What if they own the music? What if the music was on TV? Capitalism sucks. Well, communism sucks more. It actually looks really good on paper but IRL it doesn't work. We're too greedy as a species. Oh and PLEASE do NOT use Youtube to download music and convert it into MP3s. Trust me, the quality will be shitty. Youtube mixes audio to low-bitrate mono sound so if you download it elsewhere it will sound better.
  5. Windows =/= Windows Media Player, generally built in media players are bad. QuickTime also sucks a lot more than OSX ever will and mplayer for Linux...well, the best media player (for videos) on any platform is VLC, for audio on Windows it's Winamp. Yeah, Windows Media Player is horrible and should never be used ever.
  6. No, you need a much better graphics card and a better processor to run either of those games.
  7. lulz, I did download it last night with Firefox. The link Chris posted works, I'm about to test! Also I hear there's a bug that will erase a few seconds off of your MP3s if you let Windows Media Player update your ID3 tags. Just don't use Windows Media Player. You really shouldn't do that anyway, even if you're not testing W7.
  8. You have no idea what you're talking about. I am sick of you people talking shit about Vista. There is nothing wrong with Vista. It is perfectly fine for games and the difference between Vista and XP is negligible. So next you choose to make the absurd claim that ATi Radeon cards are known to have "these" kinds problems with "some" games. Explain to me how the hell video cards which are MADE to play games on would have issues with playing games? If that were true than the 4850 wouldn't beat the shit out of and be cheaper than its nVidia equivalent. Video cards are video cards. Saying all ATi cards have problems is like saying all nVidia cards have problems. They don't. The 280 is a nice card (although a little expensive for what you get), but anything from the 8-series or 9-series is shit IMO...that doesn't mean they will yield low performance, that means there is a better card you can get for the same amount of money. You should have no problem playing the game because your processor is very nice. In SR2 your video card doesn't matter one bit. It seems all they did was run the Xbox 360 version through an x86 compiler and did nothing at all to optimize it. But anyway there is a third-party tool to force whatever resolution you want. It works for me but the game still runs like shit and looks like shit. I'll stick to GTA4 for right now. Oh and Zero Punctuation? Yeah, it's hilarious and I've been watching it since it came out. Yahtzee is funny, that doesn't make him right 100% of the time.
  9. Well, it may be in crippled form, yes. Everyone touts OSX as being superior for graphical design. You don't have Photoshop CS4 64-bit which makes Windows a lot more helpful for professional photographers. You can't use the GSM codec which is very important in voice chat...again, gaming I know, OSX isn't for that, and I understand. It's okay to spend a ridiculous amount of money on a PC you can't use for that. (Well, you could boot into Windows, but what was the point of spending that much again?) Also YOU NEED TO RESTART YOUR COMPUTER. HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. In the time I've used Macs I've gotten exponentially more kernal panics than I can count. And inb4 BSOD on Windows, Windows Vista fixed this to the point where the only time you should see a bluescreen EVER is when your hardware is failing or your drivers are bad. Anyway Windows 7 looks awesome and I can't wait to try it. They said they'd release it as a free download to test today but their site is slow as shit so I guess I'll wait a bit.
  10. What? Windows is already the best operating system you can get. Period. Windows 7 will be the epitome of why it's so awesome...compatible with more hardware and software than any other operating system on the market while offering very nice performance and usability. I'm going to go play Team Fortress 2, GTAIV, make a new sig in Photoshop CS4 64-bit, listen to the soundtrack of Liberty Rock Radio in Winamp, and I'm going to do it all without API emulation. Seriously, as a desktop OS, Linux and OSX are laughable.
  11. Don't, it's a shitty port, for why see this post. If you're going to get the game, you better have a computer built by God himself or at least get it for a console.
  12. Hyper-threading doesn't mean much, not many applications take advantage of it and in some cases it can ever reduce performance when enabled. You don't have two physical processors which is what the game wants. You may be able to run it on a P4, but don't count on it being an awesome experience.

    Saints Row!

Just got SR2 for the PC, I must say I'm disappointed. Not at the game itself of course, SR1 was a very nice game and SR2 looks like it is too. Unfortunately, it is easily the worst PC port I have ever seen. Many people bitched about how GTAIV was a bad port. I disagreed about that from the start, but it's irrelevant; this takes bad porting to a whole new level. My PC specs aren't bad; they run almost all games today fine at maximum settings but they aren't the newest hardware. AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Corsair 4GB XMS2 DDR2800 ATi Radeon 3870 512mb Creative XtremeMusic sound card Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 Saints Row 2 runs like absolute garbage on my PC. I ran the game at 1280x1024 (although my monitor's native is 1680x1050, this isn't in the resolutions list; Saints Row 2 not only supports NO 16:9 resolutions AT ALL, it also lacks many 16:10 ones, including mine) and gave the game a shot at high settings. Bad framerates in the opening cutscene. A bad sign, so I went back and turned everything off...absolute lowest settings. The game still never gets above 20fps outside, even on all lowest settings at a relatively low resolution. To put that into perspective, I can run GTA IV on medium texture/render with 25 on both detail and view, 50 on traffic, and 1 on shadows AT 1680x1050 and get 25-40fps outside, running around with action. SR2 for some reason also gives me really crappy sound...it's like listening to a 32 or 64kbps MP3 file constantly...when I peel on the road the tire screeching makes me want to alt-F4 right then and there...and there's no menu option for sound quality. This is the poorest excuse for a port I've ever seen. This is not good work. This is not worth $40. DON'T buy SR2 for the PC, unless your PC was built by God himself, or they release some patches.
  14. Pretty sure the game needs a DX9 SM3 card, the X800 is only SM2. That and you have a P4. You're not playing this game right now on that, sorry.
  15. Textures on High Render on High Vehicles anywhere from 50-100 (if you find it crowded, change it) View 50 Detail 50 Shadows 1-3 What resolution are you playing at?
  16. It will be able to run GTA IV but I wouldn't buy it, you can just build one on Newegg, seriously AlienWare is incredibly overpriced, they're the Apple of PC vendors. Yes, but link to the power supply. You need to make sure it has certain features besides just 550w. I believe it requires 2 12 volt rails on the 18amp line or something, just link it.
  17. Well yes that is hot but nothing hardware-damaging. Once you hit 80 then it can be damaging to your hardware to go higher, and your computer will likely shut itself off once you reach a high-enough temperature.
  18. Maybe. Monitor your temps. Do stressful things (i.e. gaming) and see how high your temps get...if your CPU goes above about 80C then you'll need a better cooler to prevent overheating.
  19. What? You only need nVidia cards in that case if you want to actually USE SLI, which many games don't support and doesn't give you a big framerate increase. Plus the fact that if you do it you will need a much more powerful PSU...around 800w is my guess. Of course you can use ATi cards with nVidia chipsets, I'm doing it right now. nForce 570 mobo with 3870 graphics. But if you want to anyway, GTX 260 is roughly the same as a 4850 GTX 280 is about the same as a 4870 Anything in the 9-series = shit, don't waste your money.
  20. That's not a good idea! You should change the multiplier of your processor to a higher number which is faster and more effective. My default multiplier is 13, which puts my processor at 2.6GHz. When I bump it up to 14, my processor goes to 2.8GHz, a big increase for only one step. It also increases my RAM speed. But yes, do it in small steps...if you do it to high, you might not be able to boot. In which case, you have to raise the voltage to your CPU, but be VERY careful and read up on how to do this, it can fry your machine.
  21. Why? From my understanding it only works if they detect you as being from the UK, which is a lot of our userbase. Interesting idea I suppose, though I'm not going to be a part of it...I prefer actually having the files permanently.
  22. Get an ATi 4850, it is the best card money can buy if you're looking to spend around $150.
  23. No, while you can upgrade from XP 32-bit to Vista 32-bit, you can't upgrade XP 32-bit to Vista 64-bit, or even Vista 32-bit to Vista 64-bit. Your best bet to keep your stuff is to make a partition on your hard drive to store the things you can't re-install (music, movies, etc...) onto it and then format the partition with XP on it and install Vista. You can do the formatting and everything while installing Vista but you must make the partition and move the data to it beforehand. Once you have Vista installed, move your data to the Vista partition, delete the now-empty partition and re-install your games and programs.
  24. Possibly..I do agree with you that there is obvious corruption in the oil industry. But I also do believe that Hussein was considered enough of a threat to security that it was necessary to take him down.
  25. Yeah, about that...it depends where you live. Also are you implying you dislike black gangsters? How can you do that when you immerse yourself in music written and performed by them? Then again, your entire country is essentially descendants of British criminals.
