  7. Fears have grown that copies of Grand Theft Auto IV might be mistakenly sold ahead of its official release date, after its publishers announced that the game was being delivered to retailers. Details of the game, which gets its global launch on April 29, have been kept a closely guarded secret by its maker, Rockstar Games. However, many fans fear that shops may unwittingly sell the game to customers early, and that information about the plot and the ending will be leaked on the internet. "The game is in production and in trucks en route to retailers," Ben Feder, chief executive officer of Take Two, Rockstar's parent company, told shareholders at the company's annual meeting. Such is the secrecy surrounding the highly anticipated game that only a handful of journalists have had the chance to play it, and most were only shown snippets rather than entire missions and levels. Industry analysts expect fans to buy about six million copies of the game in the first week of sale alone, raking in around $400 million (£200 million) for Rockstar Games. If so, it will smash the previous entertainment record, set last year by another video game, Halo 3, which sold five million copies in its first week when it was launched in September. Grand Theft Auto IV will be available on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Halo 3 was exclusive to the Xbox 360 platform. Fans are certainly entitled to worry about details of the game being leaked ahead of its release. Last year Argos sold copies of Halo 3 before it was officially released, blaming a "genuine administrative error" for the mistake. Rockstar Games will hope that by imposing a global release date for Grand Theft Auto IV, it will avoid some of the issues that surrounded the Halo 3 launch. On that occasion, the game went on sale in the US and Australasia a full 24 hours before it was released in Europe, and lead to clips of the game and the ending being posted on the YouTube video-sharing site. Grand Theft Auto IV, the latest instalment in the hugely successful, critically acclaimed and long-running franchise, follows the fortunes of Eastern European immigrant Niko as he turns to a life of crime in the US. Take Two, the parent company of Rockstar Games, is currently locked in a takeover battle with another high profile video game publisher, Electronic Arts. On Friday, EA dropped its bid for the company from $26 per share to $25.74, and extended the deadline for the offer until May 16. "EA continues to believe that the offer price is full and fair, and that a transaction between Take-Two and EA is the most compelling combination financially, strategically and operationally for all parties," said the company in a statement. EA originally announced its acquisition plans in March, but Take Two branded the offer "inadequate" and rejected it a week and a half later. The bid then turned hostile as Electronic Arts directly approached Take Two's shareholders. It succeeded in securing about eight per cent of Take Two's shares, but needs to push that up to 50 per cent for its takeover offer to succeed. Meanwhile, in the United States, a convicted criminal, Jonathan Lee Riches, has launched legal action against Take Two and Rockstar Games, blaming the "sex, drugs and violence" featured in their games for contributing towards his committing identity theft. Riches, currently in prison in South Carolina, also called for the companies to cease distribution of the "newest Grand Theft Auto games". Riches is a serial litigator - in the past he has filed legal actions against Martha Stewart, Tiger Woods, gossip blogger Perez Hilton and President Bush, among others. According to Fox News, he has also accused Britney Spears of holding him at gunpoint, and alleged that Apple's chief executive, Steve Jobs, employs OJ Simpson as a hitman. Source: Telegraph.co.uk

  10. Rockstar Games announced on Friday that Grand Theft Auto IV, published by Take-Two Interactive, has gone into mass production, and it promises a week opener of more than 6 million copies in North America. Grand Theft Auto IV is expected to be on store shelves on April 29 for the Microsoft Xbox 360 and the Sony PS3 videogame consoles. Take-Two CEO Ben Feder said the game is "in production and in trucks en route to retailers." The company is predicting large numbers for GTA IV, as much as $400 million, during its first week of sales. GTA IV begins with Niko Bellic, fresh off the boat from Europe, hopes to escape his past. His cousin, Roman, enters the scene as together they explore fortune in Liberty City. They are soon dragged into a criminal underworld after they slip into debt by a series of shysters and thieves. The two soon discover that reality is very different from the dream in a city that worships money and status, and is heaven for those who have them and a living nightmare for those who don't. The game is Rated "M" for Mature on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Source:: News Oxy

  14. Lazlow who has been in many past GTA's, as a radio host and has also been one of the lead writers for the series, has given information on GTA IV while he was on a radio show 'Opie and Anthony show'. Although talking about his inlvolment mostly and information we have already heard, these things that he mentioned are new. Niko can date women he meets on online dating sites like Love-Meet.net Recording sessions for the in-game dialogue and audio lasted ten hours a day five days a week for many weeks Rockstar employees worked overtime, even on weekends, in order the complete the game on time There will be over 100 different commercials played on the in-game radio stations The Liberty City beer band 'Piswasser' is a direct jab at Budweiser, and will feature an ad sung by Anthony himself The in-game internet is ridiculously extensive and will contain spoofs of various popular news sources (both liberal and conservative), blogs and websites. There will also be pop-up banner ads to complete the browsing experience. Injuries will be more important in firefights then before. If Niko is shot in the leg, for example, he'll bleed and limp There will be periodic announcements in the subway stations that will randomly alert you of spontaneous police searches, extra security checks and plain ole harassment of passengers Lazlow also stated that his personal favorite version of GTA IV is the 360 version because of it’s downloadable content which will contain (amongst other things) new missions, characters and comedy routines. 15. The link you given isn't a sign of playing MP3's through your phone, the link you gave is a 'Zit' service, that is if you hear a song on the radio you like you can dial this number using your ingame phone wait 30 seconds and you get a text message with the name of the song and artist. Once that is done it will be saved in your Social Club profile, but you must purchase it through Amazon to download it.

  17. Finally the moment everybody has been waiting for Grand Theft Auto IV has now gone gold, so say good bye to those rumors that EA have brought up Take-Two. This was announced earlier today by Take-Two in a shareholders meeting, when Ben Foder Take-Two CEO said that the game is "in production and in trucks en route to retailers,". Meaning that the game is already on it way to retailers early than expected. "Though it won't be released for another 12 days, industry watchers have already projected a massive debut from the next installment in Rockstar North's prized franchise. Last October, Janco Partner's Mike Hickey projected global opening-week sales of more than 9.5 million, with 5.8 million units turning up in US consumers' hands alone. Earlier this week, Variety reported that sources within Take-Two fully expect the game to sell some 6 million units in its opening week, generating revenue in excess of $400 million."
