Recession, How's it effecting you?

It hasn't effected me too much yet because I am 14 but my Dad keeps telling us that he is loosing money in his business. I can tell you what has changed in our house this past year because of money issues.

Mom has worked more hours.

We switched from Gas heat to electric.

We didn't go on a family trip this past summer gas was too high.

Dad has canceled some his plans for system upgrades to the LAN.

We keep running behind on bills and I hear mom and dad discussing them more than often.

Josh held a summer job at the mall.

I am planning to get a job but I can't get one until I am 16 most stores and shops won't hire under 18 here. I asked at the local video store and they said I have to be 18 because of the porn tapes. I asked at the local gas station and you have to be 18 because of the cigarettes and alcohol sales. <_<

But I really want a job at the video store.

It's not that bad for me in the Middle East, fuel prices are the same and is only about 10 pounds for a full tank (it's always been cheap here). Shop prices haven't really changed either. The only thing that has bothered me is that my Dad almost lost his job and Free Radical had to shut down because of financial problems :(

I think the UK is one of the worst hit for this. My parents shopping bill has went up from £50 to almost £120 in the past year and now what worries me is that this country is £4,000,000,000,000 (Four Trillion Pounds) in debt so we're probably going to be taxed for it - with me two years away from being legally able to move away from home, this is going to effect me (It's 16 in Scotland, 18 in England).

It's not affected me directly but it's been okay, shopping bills have gone up etc. but we manage. The US has amassed 10.2 trillion in debt. China have 2 trillion USD (1.2 trillion GBP) in bail-out fees and they're willing to give the US $500bn in order to help them out. Other countries will of course have to help each other as well. IMO, we will never be out of debt.

Most of you wont have been affected at all. Sure, money is tight, but it always is.

The only real difference would be that its harder to get credit (a loan or mortgage), unless you pay silly amounts of interest. So you cant get that new house or car unless you pay out of your own pocket.

The flipside to this problem is that people dont want to buy much, especially not houses, but mostly out of fear rather than a lack of money. Prices are actually coming DOWN to combat this.

So chances are it has not affected you (yet). Money is always tight, its just going slower atm.

Because of the recession i have lost my job at the local sushi bar and now have practically no income ( I get £30 per week for going to school) and am need of a new job but nowhere are employing at the moment... my mum copes but we've had to cut back on things like brand products e.g. walkers crisps and gone for the economy ones instead (which don't taste much different to be honest) and that's it.

Me and my Mum are lucky as we are renting, so we aren't affected by the mortage problems. We were very lucky to sell our house within a week (with full asking price) last March considering how hard it is to sell houses at the moment.

I have been affected, I can not find a job for love or money. But the worst is as they have lowered all interest rates, my savings are not going to gain any interest. Considering what I have saved, its very annoying. Its tempting to get it out and leave it in a box under my bed. Espically as I wanted money to be saving up for university next year.

I got a savings tin (from England, explaining the Bank of England design all around it). It'll help get some money, I don't get any pocket money nowadays because my parents are broke, I have to find money my own way now, which means get a paper job or a job at a cafe. I didn't think I would need a job so early in life but I guess times are changing.
